Just in case railing remains required.

I'm taking ds to the barbers this morning. He doesn't have an appointment but I reckon they'll cut his hair anyway.

rookiemere · 06/04/2021 08:02

@runningpink it's good to speak to the doctors for sure. I started taking St Johns Wort in January as I knew it was going to be a long haul into Spring, I do think it has really helped to level me out, and I no longer get the tremendous lows from bits of bad news any more - need to decide when to come off it, maybe I'll wait until after the Scottish elections Grin.
However I had no other factors impacting me, so it is a suitable remedy for me.

I had to laugh at DH yesterday, off he jaunts into Morningside to get a haircut, then is surprised by the queues outside. I've got to wait until 1st May for my appointment- my impassioned plea about it being my birthday today didn't work.

shouldistop · 06/04/2021 08:04

Happy birthday rookie Cake

tiredoftiers · 06/04/2021 08:20

I attend a hairdresser outside my council area, so naturally assumed that I couldn’t travel there until the 26th. I work in the council area of my hairdresser. Look at an online paper this morning to see the First ministers arse parked in a hairdressers chair in a council area different to her permanent residence Hmm
Is this within the rules or not? Surely a haircut across a council border isn’t less risky than a wee mountain bike at a trail centre, or am I missing something? Or is it okay if you have two residences?

WouldBeGood · 06/04/2021 08:26

Happy Birthday @rookiemere!

@titsintiers I’d just go 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Bytheloch · 06/04/2021 08:37

Just go to your hairdressers even if it’s outside your council cage. They have to be ‘covid safe’ (how I hate that phrase) premises to open, so everything else is up to you. DSiL will be travelling down from above Perth for an appointment in Glasgow, nobody saying from the business that she shouldn’t attend.

rookiemere · 06/04/2021 09:07

Yes it's interesting how the FM trips up - just like the rest of us - in the nonsensical rules. Let her out on her own and she too forgets to wear her mask when standing up because it wasn't needed when sitting down, or visits her own hairdresser and uses it as a photo Op even though it might be out of the city council boundary. Perhaps if people are caught in the wrong place in Scotland they can say they're off to get a haircut a la Sturgeon as opposed to doing a Dominic Cummings.

Of course the real issue is that it's literally impossible to follow all the rules as some are contradictory .

I know they had to do something, but I'd like her and the rest of the Scottish parliament to try wfh for long periods with no physical human interaction whilst trying to ensure DCs got some education, then see if they would have done the same actions in the same order.

ResilienceWanker · 06/04/2021 09:12

Sorry to hear you're struggling runningpink. I had been wondering how you were, but glad you managed to see your friend at last. Others have given good advice, but I'm just here for the awkward hug and back pat. Flowers

Happy birthday rookiemere! Cake Can't believe hairdressers didn't treat that as an essential appointment.

I was a bit Easter Hmm about NS and her haircut too. I know it's "allowed" but surely she's all about the "just because it's allowed doesn't mean you should do it". Going to the beach and going to coffee shops was allowed in the summer/ autumn too and she was the first to wag her finger and tell us off for using them, and they were really for vulnerable people who had no alternative and if we flocked to them she'd take them away because we can't be trusted. Her hair was looking fine to me. She really should have surrendered her appointment for someone in greater need.

DH stood in a queue for an hour for the barbers yesterday. There were only about 5 of them in the queue, and 3 barbers, but there were "a lot of old men with out of control hair" so it took longer than usual.

Am tempted by the key cutting today. Then I may hang around in a car showroom for the lols.

shouldistop · 06/04/2021 09:15

Anyone else love the smell in key cutting shops?

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 06/04/2021 09:50

Baffled by the car showroom rule. Car was in for a safety recall a couple of weeks ago. Showroom looked fully open to me - I had to walk through it to the service desk, salesmen were suited and booted at their desks. If I'd rocked up with £20k in used fivers would they have politely declined to sell me a car?

Lockdownbear · 06/04/2021 10:01

@titsintiers

Call me cynical but I reckon it's related to a certain politician with short, dyed hair 🤷🏼‍♀️
I hadn't thought about that but going by some of today's front pages you are spot on Hmm.

I couldn't work out why personal services are deemed safer than clothes shops. Kids especially need shoes fitted more than people need a hair do.

Happy Birthday @rookiemere

Have dropped the boys at the barbers. My chemist is along the street so was waiting outside to see my 2 be allowed entry then the guy behind turned away without an appointment.

Just waiting on them. Dh has his vaccine this afternoon.

WouldBeGood · 06/04/2021 10:26

Hope the haircuts and jag go well @Groovee.

DS booked in for hair on Saturday. They may need a strimmer

The smell of glue, @shouldistop**

Blush is that what it is?? Haha

ResilienceWanker · 06/04/2021 11:21

To be fair to NS all the leaders are at it. Seems being photographed at a hairdresser is the new baby-kissing.

I agree lockdownbear - I think contact with feet is going to be less risky than contact with faces! And shoes are a nightmare to fit from online buying...and a bit more necessary to get right than hair. Though I may be biased as I'm embracing the headscarf... my hair never looks good so I'm liking having an excuse to cover it up.

Yy to the glue. It's quite calming.

runningpink · 06/04/2021 11:29

@WouldBeGood that’s reassuring to hear you were able to get help over the phone. I have a friend who I can call/text when I need it. Don’t think I’d mange to say much If I called a helpline. I also have a counsellor and I think I will make contact and ask for our next session to be brought forward and discuss the medication with her.

Feel like iv had a bit of a lightbulb moment in terms of realising how bad I’m actually feeling. And that actually my ‘good’ days are just an act and I need more help. And I achieved something last month and I should be proud and excited but actually I couldn’t care less and that’s not normal.

Happy Birthday @rookiemere! Hope you have cake!?

Thanks @ResilienceWanker the hug is much appreciated

Is there a school update today? And/or any other announcements?

Lockdownbear · 06/04/2021 11:29

Embracing the headscarf you say I thought the only person who did that was Her Maj 😃.

My hair is a riot. I love the convience of long hair I can brush and tie back. But I'm hating the tied back look.

ResilienceWanker · 06/04/2021 11:43

Grin I'm not saying I'm pulling it off mind you. It is purely a practicality rather than a style statement. Also, it conveniently doubles as a mask when I forget (or a balaclava if I want to cover both hair and mouth). Hygiene... I've heard of it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/04/2021 11:49
@runningpink I was able to get help over the phone from the GP last summer when I was feeling really down. I’m sure it’s possible. To be honest, I think there are loads of people feeling like you. But help is there. Also ring or email Breathing Space or the Samaritans if you’re feeling you need help right away. 💐
I phoned the GP just over a week ago, I was in a bit of a state just speaking to the receptionist so he called me back within an hour and signed me off for a month. I've spent virtually every day still stressed and anxious but with less panic attacks and already stressed about the day I'm due back.

It's really shit.

I've been working for nearly 38 years and apart from less than a year in total of maternity leave, the longest I've been off work is the week I had off with covid last year. I've had maybe around 10 days total off in addition to that over the remaining 37 years. First time I've ever had a sick note.

The restrictions are the only difference really. I've been through stressful times just like most folk but something has just given now. I don't even want to go out anymore.

titsintiers · 06/04/2021 11:59

I thought you had been a bit quiet @WaxOnFeckOff, hope you're feeling better soon Thanks

UnderHisAye · 06/04/2021 12:05

@WaxOnFeckOff I was signed off for 6 weeks a few years ago and what I regret most is the time I spent dreading going back. I wish I'd taken longer so I could switch my brain off completely, but I didn't feel I could.

Take it easy Thanks

I'd actually changed name but seems to revert to old one on my phone. Have been quiet as well though as I don't think getting so invested in stuff I can't change is helping.

Thanks for the support from folks on here and hope others in the same boat start to feel better soon.

UnderHisAye · 06/04/2021 12:20

I think a lot of us are feeling the same, these threads have been quieter lately. I wonder if we're all just a bit exhausted now.

DH has sensibly told me to stop seeing it as a target to feel better by. The GP says he'll call me a few days before my line expires so if I'm not ready then I can hopefully get more time off.

I guess the issue for me is that when I go back, work will still be there and I'll be in worse position as I'll then be another month behind.
