Yes, I was thinking that as I wrote my last post tbh. It's a shame that this environment is so very political though.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 22/03/2021 22:07

Quite why it provokes such upset is puzzling. It's like the anti UK government feeling that usually pervades the rest of MN.

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 22:10

@WouldBeGood

I’d really like it if there could be nuanced discussion with pro Indy/SNP people but it never works. There’s loads on Twitter who are not happy with NS and the corruption, but none on here?
I think it's very very difficult to out yourself as pro SNP on here. You immediately get pelted with questions and accusations about your own leave of intelligence, and get treated as an apologist for all things SNP.

For example there was a very very long thread about the SNP on here a while ago that I didn't touch because I didn't have it in me to spend days fighting online with strangers.

None of us are ever switching sides so what's the point? It only increases the unpleasant atmosphere.

Because this is the one corner for Scottish people! Not just those who hate the SNP.
WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 22:12

@UnderHisAye I’ll think about that. Thanks

Scottishskifun · 22/03/2021 22:15

I don't think anyone who is pro-indy is an idiot and I voted SNP last election.
But I don't believe in indy at any cost and especially at a time of a pandemic, terrible economic and mental health state. I do think it's wrong to focus solely on that when so many people are suffering.

I have been incredibly fortunate I wfh my LA allowed for only 1 KW in order to send my son to his private nursery. But the pandemic has hit me very hard in other ways in some of the hospital rules which have been enforced especially surrounding miscarriage. I also believe that new mums have been let down horrifically by the SG and then they backtracked after thousands had struggled and struggled. God knows what the PND rates are as a result.

I watch my DH work his socks off trying to help businesses with covid compliance yet time and time again SG makes announcements and leaves those at the front line scrambling to try and enforce or make it happen with guidelines not released for days and even weeks after. Teachers have had the same to some extent.

I won't vote SNP again and I won't vote for more hardship when so many people are struggling. If they have the money for indyref and potential independence then why don't they have that money for mental health services, stopping food hunger and helping with jobs. That to me is the biggest question which nobody seems to answer.

It's been found, though, by the independent minister in charge of reviewing ministerial code breaches ( in Scotland and in Wales) that there was no corruption by NS. ( I take it that's what you're referring to?)
WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 22:23

@StarryEyeSurprise there’s a whole can of worms, as I’m sure you’re aware. You have proved my lack of nuance point though.

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 22:30

I see there's an English travel ban coming into place

https://www.itv.com/news/2021-03-22/ban-on-leaving-uk-without-reasonable-excuse-included-in-new-covid-laws-in-force-next-week

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 22:30

@WouldBeGood She has been found not to have broken the ministerial code yet somehow thats not enough. She still must be guilty. That's not 'nuanced debate' that's just a witch hunt against someone you don't like.

StarryEyeSurprise · 22/03/2021 22:34
About time.

I'd rather see a more transparent enquiry procedure, not one carried out by an SNP appointed lawyer or the Scottish Government. You know, like the independent constitutional review bodies that other countries have built into their systems...

On another note, are they really showing Sturgeon leaving from her own home in front of the press on the news tonight? Isn't that a bit of a security risk?

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 22:38

I dunno, they doorstep loads of leaders. Not that I think it's right but it seems common practice.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 22:38

@snowcoveredcampsies there’s a whole background, the holyrood committee report, the super injunction allegations. Her private life and the lack of transparency . The NEC. The self ID as disabled to get on lists. The conduct of party officials, and her chief of staff. The failed judicial review defence and £600k cost to the taxpayer. Lying to their own QC. Failing repeatedly to take legal advice. The campaign against Joanna Cherry. Not just one thing or one person

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 22:38

A Corbyn special. New for Scottish politics right enough I think.

Scottishskifun · 22/03/2021 22:43
It's just putting fines in place and putting it more transcript into legislation. You have had to have reason to leave or arrive for quite some time now. Friends now travel with a whole heap of documents for work.
StarryEyeSurprise · 22/03/2021 22:44

@GreenlandTheMovie James Hamilton was appointed by Alex Salmond and he is has the same role in Wales. He's independent.

I don't think any other leader has undergone such a thorough process and investigation. You can, of course, have a different view. Feel free to enlighten me.

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 22:44

@WouldBeGood most of those aren't related to the recent inquiry though are they? I thought we were talking about that. That's just an outpouring of what annoys you about them. 🤔

If she had been found to have broken the ministerial code then there would have been calls to respect that decision. Now that the opposite is true it's a can of worms. 🤷🏻‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 22:46

No, I had mentioned corruption and that covers most of the corruption. Not all in relation to the inquiry.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 22:49

It’s not a case of what annoys me about them either. It’s a serious matter of them being corrupt and untrustworthy. Just like Boris and his lot.

I can mags a list of the policies I disagree with too, if you like?

I think it’s a shame. I listened to what @UnderHisAye said, and was going to reflect, but then the pile on about how I must be wrong, and wrongly interpreting my post.

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 22:51

@WouldBeGood hmmmm seems like pretty normal politics to me but I have been brought up British so the standard has been pretty low to be fair.

I can't get worked up over any of it. I really can't. Except Joanna Cherry. Sadly, and I don't agree with it, but the brave new world into which we are headed whether under a British or Scottish flag is not going to make a space for gender critical women. That's a lost battle sadly. Not that that makes it right. I'm very upset about what they've done to her.

Are they still overall better than the alternative? Absolutely.

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 22:53

I'm not sure that my one post could be considered a pile on but sorry if it felt like that.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 22:59

@StarryEyeSurprise was there too @snowcoveredcampsies.

Honesty is something that’s really important to me.

I can’t countenance supporting politicians who are dishonest and self seeking.

That’s across the board, before we get to the Tories.

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 23:03

@StarryEyeSurprise was replying to someone else about something else.

Well good luck finding someone to vote for. I don't think the political party you want exists in Scotland or indeed the UK.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 23:05

It’s boring @snowcoveredcampsies but here’s the screenshot of starry replying to me.

It’s a weird parallel universe one of us is in
