SNP supporters and the hate crime bill

Scottish government are passing a bill tonight that will give hate crime protection to every protected characteristic - apart from sex. Yes, women apparently don't register as far as hate crimes go.

But cross dressers will be protected so that's fine - don't insult a man in a kilt even in your own home, as you could be arrested. However, every day misogyny - that's fine.

SNP supporters - are you ok with this????

@Drive

Just catching up on this, I feel sick.

The fact this has been brought through when so many women are on their knees with extra caring responsibilities and no time or energy to campaign is disgusting.

What can we do?

I'll happily leaflet, contribute what I can. But i need to be careful of my job too.Sad

Just vote anything except SNP or Green in May and enjoy....
Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 22:37

It’s a sad day for Scotland and especially Scottish woman .

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:38

I have never not voted

This time none of them get my hard won

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:39

Sorry toddler being a toddler demanding attention.

Sleep 😴

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 22:39
@dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby I think I’ll hold my nose and vote Labour for the sake of stopping a majority and because they’re not as dedicated to erasing women as the SNP are
I think I will vote Labour too lesser of two evils

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 10/03/2021 22:39

About as good with justice as they were with transport.

Give it 10 years and women won’t officially exist and they will be insisting that they burst forth into this world through the end of a penis.

Aye. Under your bastard eye.

Yes I don't want to live here anymore either.

Shower of fuckwits

Love living here apart from the SNP. Will be happy to stay and pay my tax if they lose their majority and hence their power. I can live in hope in these pandemic times.
WaxOnFeckOff · 10/03/2021 22:40

I look at the candidates opposing the SNP and it looks like I'll be voting tory as they were 2nd place. Unless the candidate has compelling reasons not to vote for them that is.

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 22:41

What a time to be alive when the government are trying to control what we can say in the privacy of our own homes. I’m sick to my stomach .

Drive · 10/03/2021 22:42

Trouble is what difference will a few of us voting for anyone but snp & greens make? Who's actually paying much attention to this?

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 10/03/2021 22:43

Sad to see the first female FM of Scotland has so royally shafted women.

Selkiesarereal · 10/03/2021 22:44

drive go over to feminist chat, there are more of us.

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 10/03/2021 22:45

Also are they going to retrospectively apply this to all the rangers fans that spewed sectarian bile over the city Centre at the weekend? I think not.

snowcoveredcampsies · 10/03/2021 22:46

It's not a simple issue. Not for me anyway. I've ping ponged back and forth across this.

It's not about cross dressers. It's about trans folk. Comments like that add nothing to the argument except validate the feelings of transphobia.

Whether we / you like it or not, and I'm not sure I do, this is a lost cause.

As a pp said Labour are on board with this too and it won't be long until the Tories are also. They actually might be I don't know. I can't see them purposefully alienating the 'woke' vote either tbh. America is certainly right there with it also. Biden has been clear with his support for the trans community.

It's a juggernaut that for some reason has gathered so much momentum that I feel it's unstoppable.

For those who are thinking of moving where will you go that you think will be somehow different? I get that other countries maybe don't have this specific legislation but I honestly don't think it will be long.

There's no dialling back on this now. I feel completely conflicted with it. Genuinely bamboozled.

Do I want female only spaces? Yes. Women only sport? Yes. Do I want genuine transwomen to be safe and protected? Also yes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe the female ones
SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 10/03/2021 22:48

And yet not a surprise.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/03/2021 22:49

The protection of genuine trans people was already in place. All this has done is cause more division. That seems to be the MO of scotgov. division, division, division.

I appreciate that it looks like the worse of the woke stuff is spreading but if I can move and enjoy a few more years with relative free speech it's worth it.

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:49

@snowcoveredcampsies again, you don’t know the background. There are particular provisions for cross dressers.

No need for ones for trams women as they just count as women. 🤷🏻‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:50

If you’re going to come on and support the SG that’s fine. But be aware of the facts at least.

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:51

Trans people have same protection as every one else

They are protected in law and have same rights as everyone else

They can’t be discriminated against same as other protected groups

But now in Scotland women don’t have the same protections

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/03/2021 22:51

I'm somewhere between raging and broken tbh.

Personally my issue with Rape Crisis et al is that they no longer believe in single sex (not gender) facilities which is exceedingly problematic for women like me. It's over 20 years since I was raped but I'm still triggered by Adam's apples especially when they catch me by surprise and I've worked with lots of women and girls who feel similarly about bodies our ptsd codes as male.

I have zero faith in this government tackling misogyny at any point, especially now even attempting to discuss the real reasons behind it will no doubt be classed as a hate crime.

I've always hated being a woman (mostly due to male abuse) so am seriously tempted by non binary, especially if womanhood is no longer linked to biology. After all, as one of my (male) colleagues told me once, looks aside I'm a lousy woman and dh reckons I'm a bloke anyway.

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 22:53

Our own government is seeking to criminalise women who fight to retain the little protection we have against male sexual violence. Honestly disgusting

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:53

You can be superstraight dinosaur

Google it

I am superstraight

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:54

Oh! DS was explaining super straight to me today

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:54

Yeah it’s awesome
