SNP supporters and the hate crime bill

Scottish government are passing a bill tonight that will give hate crime protection to every protected characteristic - apart from sex. Yes, women apparently don't register as far as hate crimes go.

But cross dressers will be protected so that's fine - don't insult a man in a kilt even in your own home, as you could be arrested. However, every day misogyny - that's fine.

SNP supporters - are you ok with this????

@shouldistop

Why on earth are we throwing away the rights of 50 percent of the population for a tiny percentage of people?!
Because they shout the fucking loudest. Because they've gaslit people into believing them and any suggestion otherwise is immediately shot down as transphobia.

Because they are men.

Women's Aid, Rape Crisis and others also deemed that it shouldn't be part of the Hate Crime Bill.

So yes, I'm not a legal eagle by any means but I think it's right that in the unpacking of existing hate crime legislation, that a separate misogyny bill is evidence based and comprehensive- like the Domestic Abuse and Sectarian Bills.

I've gone back and forth on this so many times. I honestly don't know what I think. I genuinely don't.

Why are women and girls not important in Scotland

Fuck I am so pissed that we don’t matter enough in my country to be protected in law.

Yet a cross dresser is more important than women and girls in Scotland

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:00

Starry they are all funded by SG

they have to toe the line otherwise defunded

Why are we so complex that we can’t be protected.

It’s absolutely shite.

Are cross dresser complex ?

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:01

I am really really upset by this.

What kind of country are we living in where women don’t matter? It’s terrifying

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:02

The SNP hates women is the only explanation

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:03

And the Green Party

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:03

The Greens, yes. It’s vile

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:04

It’s not that they hate women it’s just like we are of no revelance.

Who cares.

Cross dressing men.

Dead important

Women's Aid and Rape Crisis will not be politically motivated.
WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:07

I think it’s deeper and more sinister

Selkiesarereal · 10/03/2021 22:09

The only way we can become important is through our vote and I don’t tend to vote on a single issue or even tactically but this time will be different.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 10/03/2021 22:11

@StarryEyeSurprise I'm sure the people who work there aren't. They want to help women. Without funding they cannot help. If the funding are withdrawn it is possible that so many more women go without help. What do you think their bosses say to them?

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:11

They are starry

You think that women are so complex we can’t be protected in hate crime bill

And why are cross dressers so important that they can be protected ?

When you do a bill you look at all the stakeholders

Johanna Lamont amongst others spoke up.

Did you see the speeches ?

Did you see what harvie from the greens said. ?

Peppafrig · 10/03/2021 22:11

I feel sick to my stomach for the future of my daughters . Shame on them .

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:12

Rape crisis are not what you’d think in all thus if you know the history

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2021 22:13

@StarryEyeSurprise I know you’re a big supporter of the SG but it’s clear that you don’t know the background to all this.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 10/03/2021 22:17

I know I shouldn’t be shocked it’s come to this but I really am. I thought logic & reason would prevail where debate should be respected instead keeping their heads down has been more important for most MSPs than protecting half their constituents.

Bloody thought crime

littlbrowndog · 10/03/2021 22:17

Women are not a hate group despite what some of our politicians think

If someone says that Humza is so far out of his depth it is genuinely terrifying, is that a hate crime?
