SNP supporters and the hate crime bill

Scottish government are passing a bill tonight that will give hate crime protection to every protected characteristic - apart from sex. Yes, women apparently don't register as far as hate crimes go.

But cross dressers will be protected so that's fine - don't insult a man in a kilt even in your own home, as you could be arrested. However, every day misogyny - that's fine.

SNP supporters - are you ok with this????

I have sons not daughters but this is telling them and other men that the women in their lives are less important than crossdressing men and it's fucking insulting. I'm pretty hands on with mine and they do understand this but what about others? What is the government telling young men to believe?

Still fucking disgusted as are the menfolk in my life. None of which have any issue with how others want to lead their lives (unless the others want to be arseholes).

We are now completely agreed that if the SNP win a majority in May we will be rearranging our lives as soon as possible to get out of Scotland. Sickening.

I am self identifying as a man without a penis who is also gay and sometimes wears a dress. That means I'm protected now right?

I find the comment that a stand-alone misogyny bill would need to be evidence based quite odd - is the hate crime legislation not evidence based then? If not, then what is it?

I do understand that organisations need funding .

But what you're saying is that, what, the SG decided they wanted a separate bill for misogyny so organisations like Rape Crisis and Women's Aid pretended this will be more effective than adding it to the Hate Crime Bill with the others?

Quite a big accusation there - youre saying these organisations, whose whole raison d'etre has always been to help women , are willing to, actually, fling them under the bus and what, lie? It just doesn't add up to me.

Why would the SG just make up the fact that a separate Bill is more effective and then apply pressure to organisations to lie that they feel the same? Obviously that's what you think but I don't see it myself.

Yep. I will seriously consider identifying as non binary - when I feel like it, obviously.

It also makes me consider my long term commitment to Scotland.

Just catching up on this, I feel sick.

The fact this has been brought through when so many women are on their knees with extra caring responsibilities and no time or energy to campaign is disgusting.

What can we do?

I'll happily leaflet, contribute what I can. But i need to be careful of my job too.

Well I thought, as one half of the population, scotgov's reason d'etre would also want to protect me but they don't, they are quite happy to throw me under the bus.

I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can continue to support the SNP. They disgust me.
