The tone stays low and the railing goes on

I feel your pain @shouldistop DD2 was an awful sleeper. I had to resort to the caffeine and sugar in coke to wake me up. Probably why I'm not at pre pregnancy weight 6 years later. Solidarity Brew

DeepfriedPizza · 23/03/2021 09:09

Do you know what I want to do at 12pm? I want to go to my local sandwich shop and get a big fuck off baguette and cake for lunch. I can't because takeaways are still not open to the public, you have to stand on the street like a fucking idiot and order at the door but you can't see what they sell because you are outside the fucking shop.

UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 09:13

@shouldistop your post has reminded me so much of when my kids were little. That feeling when DH closed the door and went off to work, and the three of us would look at each other like 'now what?!'

The days are so long when you're knackered.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 09:16

@DeepfriedPizza I hate that too! It’s just ridiculous and stressful

DeepfriedPizza · 23/03/2021 09:19

Are takeaways going to open on 26th April do we think?

UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 09:23

What, you mean takeaways like Indian, pizza, etc?

They've never been closed I don't think!

Or am I misunderstanding completely? Which is very, very possible....

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 09:24

I’ve had a look and can’t see specific reference to them, but I think so as cafes etc can open. Obviously no demon drink indoors but hopefully we’ll be able to go in and stare up at the menu in a takeaway

Last point on 26th April

Urgh. I really feel for you shouldistop. That zombiefied stage of wandering aimlessly trying to entertain babies while really desperately wanting to go back to bed is awful. Especially without the promise of a coffee and cake in John Lewis or similar...

deepfriedpizza I know what you mean. I get anxious enough in those places knowing what is a "permissable" combination, let alone not even being able to see the kind of things they have. I think they were "closed" alongside click and collect, and c and c is reopening on the 5th April, so fingers crossed takeaways may be the same. (underhisaye I think it's "walk up" takeaways she's asking about, rather than ones you can order online or phone and they deliver to you. Yes they are "open" but you can't go inside them, so you can't see the menu unless they are organised enough to have brought copies of it to the door... but not all places have a paper menu in normal times).

ResilienceWanker · 23/03/2021 09:39

Ah, bugger. Cross posted. 26th it is then.

UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 09:44

Almost everywhere has a menu online now. Honestly of all the things that are annoying right now, to me that one is a tiny tiny thing.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 23/03/2021 09:45

Each to his own,eh.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 09:46

All guilt free railing: big or small

That's the thing with takeaway. If you live somewhere where there are lots, doing deliveries and pick ups, plenty of choice, the takeaway rule will have had little effect. However, you might live somewhere with no deliveries. Some restaurants round me that would have done takeaway have stayed shut. I need to book a slot for the chippy in advance. We tried to order a delivery takeaway and after a 2 hour wait, they cancelled the order. There is nowhere you can rock up to the door and order so we ended up in the supermarket buying ready meals.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 23/03/2021 09:50

The deliveries / pick ups I'd like to try are out of area.

T here is too much cooking going on in this house!

ResilienceWanker · 23/03/2021 09:52

Of course it's teeny tiny, but we're suffering from lots of teeny tiny annoyances, alongside many much larger ones, so I reckon it's a fair thing to rail about! My favourite big-fuck-off-baguette place doesn't have an online presence, which is fine, as i can't imagine they'd do much of their business from people ordering online baguettes. They have a menu behind the counter, which changes according to what fillings are "on" for the day... But to be honest, I usually choose by looking and pointing Blush Haven't been there for ages actually, and not since the new restrictions, so I don't even know if they're still in business Sad

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/03/2021 10:00

I think food is one of the things that we are focussing on. Normally we'd go out for a meal or two a month and have a takeaway maybe once.

Takeaway has just become very difficult and obviously that doesn't seem to be the case for everyone but it is for us and we can't go out either, so it's the drudge of thinking what to cook, ordering in, collecting, being missing crucial items, cooking, clearing up etc. Is it bad just to want a break from it sometimes?

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 10:04

There’s nothing else to think about as nothing is allowed 🤷🏻‍♀️

Took DD3 to Subway for her lockdown birthday. We fell on the sandwiches and scoffed them in the car. It was a sandwich made not by me or someone in my house. I really enjoyed that Italian BMT.

DeepfriedPizza · 23/03/2021 10:10

I've been working from home for the past year. I used to work in Glasgow City Centre where there was a plethora of lunch options. Now I eat the same sandwiches most days. I don't think it's unreasonable for me to be annoyed that I can't go and support a small sandwich shop/cafe by buying lunch every now and again.
Guilt free railing? Obviously only allowed when talking about something big.

But yeah, we have a few local lunch places with no online presense who do daily specials so it would be nice to go and order something. And also talk to someone else that's not my husband/DD for a change even if it's just to say " cheese salad baguette please"

UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 10:15

"Guilt free railing? Obviously only allowed when talking about something big."

Yep, that's it. That's exactly what I said.

Icannever · 23/03/2021 10:16

We are pretty rural and some takeaways have just closed rather than deal with added restrictions. The ones that are left open are so busy it’s crazy. However we have two new pop up takeaways operating at the weekend which we’ve tried recently which are so much better than normal takeaways round here. Found them on Facebook. So that’s exciting at least.

@shouldistop soooo much sympathy for the lack of sleep plus extra child. You really need people to meet up with for play (for four year old not you 😀) and coffee to get through those endless days. I used to love wee cafes with play areas or little soft plays for those days. Not the big crazy noisy ones though, was always too tired for those plus my toddler wanted me to follow him round all the time 😬. Anyhow I digress but you have my upmost sympathy

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 23/03/2021 10:16

Yep, it's getting ridiculous.

I'm going to have to revisit the notion to learn something in lockdown as realistically we are going nowhere this Easter or summer . Plus those I want to see most are far away.
The kids are fully zombified on line, no longer need me for anything so really there are no excuses left.Wink

I am not in the greatest health long term and just think I need to get doing before it's too late.
Sorry to be maudlin.

Good wishes to all who rail.x
