No social distancing at all, few masks in sight. Apparently at least 1000 outside ibrox , hundreds in George square.

Total superspreader events, even outside. The new viruses are much easier to catch.

Bloody great.

Bigot bingo with @Peppafrig

WhiskyIrnBru · 08/03/2021 19:05

Are you for real FeppaPrig?!

You are disgusting.

You are a disgrace to your club.

Bloodypunkrockers · 08/03/2021 19:06

@Lolastarsandstripe

I live in Dundee now. I couldn’t believe the difference.

Dundee and Dundee United supporters go to the same pubs as each other. Have a bit of banter before and after the game. But that’s it.

My whole family are a mixerd bag. It's never an issue
Wakeupin2022 · 08/03/2021 19:07

This is getting ridiculous.

I miss many things about Glasgow but i am so glad my children are not being brought up in the midst of all this shite.

Oblomov21 · 08/03/2021 19:09

Total disgrace. Really cross.

Peppafrig · 08/03/2021 19:10

Ok mentioning Rangers past is ok sweep Celtics past under the carpet got it .

Sakesman · 08/03/2021 19:11

I just think sectarianism is alive and kicking. V interesting that Facebook normally going nuts about fireworks and the effect on animals and despite it going on since noon - hardly a peep on the local Facebook sites. People don’t want to criticise/ don’t want to be seen to criticise.

Snookie00 · 08/03/2021 19:12

I don’t know why I’m being asked to account for all the evils of sectarianism (which i totally agree is awful and orange walks should be banned or seriously curtailed). I was responding to the pearl-clutching about how awful the specific events of yesterday were by saying that fans across the Europe have done similar so it’s not specific to Rangers and that lockdown has been effectively given up by many people. People have been prevented from socialising and meeting in groups for a year but fatigue has set in and this artificial distant way of living is not feasible due to human beings overwhelming need to share collective joy on these occasions. Yesterday was entirely predictable and would have been the same if either member of the old firm had won the league this year.

I think if they shared the spoils of the English premiership tv rights and allowed Scottish football in- they’d kill sectarianism and Scottish nationalism stone dead. In addition they’d spread the wealth. Big way to generate money in broken brexit Britain

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 08/03/2021 19:35
@thedevilinablackdress I don't agree with it and hate the division it causes but there is no doubt it is deep rooted in Glasgow culture. Having lived in glasgow till I was 25 and moved to Paisley I remember st mirren won something or other and just how different it was here. Big crowd etc but all positive and centred around families. The glasgow divide is very real whether we like it or not
There were plenty fireworks in Paisley yesterday afternoon, despite St Mirren having won nothing. And a smashed up bench in the park.

Pray tell how having Scottish teams in the English Premiership will stops people wanting full power at Holyrood.
Sakesman · 08/03/2021 19:51

Starry- I think joining this aspect of cultural life would mean that people/ football supporters would be more culturally wed to the union.

ssd · 08/03/2021 19:54

I dont think they'd ever kill sectarianism here, it's too ingrained.

PeterPanNeverLands · 08/03/2021 19:56

It would destroy Scottish football so I doubt the SFA would ever agree to merge with the FA even if the option was there.

The majority of fans I doubt would be thrilled by the prospect either.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/03/2021 19:57

@icanboogieboogiewoogie well yeah I seen fireworks and stuff because there are obviously fans through here have not heard of the bench right enough.

It was nothing like glasgow through here. Seen a few fireworks and a couple of neighbours had parties.

I don't know why you'd assume fans would want this...a lot of people don't want to be culturally or any other way tied to the union.
Sakesman · 08/03/2021 20:02

Yeah I don’t think it will happen for more than just those reasons, but if it did- money changes everything.

Sakesman · 08/03/2021 20:04

I’m not saying people want to be tied to the union- I’m saying if they spread the wealth and found the ways to invite them in - the money would change things and supporters would be going up and down the country. It’d change the dynamics of the tribalisms at play. I think some supporters would like the money influx to their clubs.

That's the worry, the parties afterwards. That's where the virus spreads.

Honestly, if Glasgow is in lockdown longer because of this I think I'll scream. And if theres a spike the schools could shut again. I mean, do folk have no sense? Of course they can celebrate and be over the moon, but gathering like this during a pandemic is just ridiculous. Theres no excuse for it. Bringing up any other team is pointless. I read one if the benches destroyed in George square was a memorial bench to a girl killed in the bus crash accident there. That just makes me feel despair.

I think the quality of Scottish football would be severely lacking in comparison!

Can't imagine wanting to travel down to watch the Scottish premier League teams struggle to beat Yeovil Town at home.

Although, I get what you mean. I don't think it would change the sectarian stuff tho. That starts in schools and homes.
