jabbathebutt · 21/02/2021 19:45

For all of us on Scotsnet who need to lose the lockdown weight!

I am going to restart slimming world tomorrow.

Got my food diary that I haven't used yet

So we can inspire each other regardless of which diet we are doing.

I'm in!

Do you need to do for slimming world?

Great thread Jabba

@kurtrussellsbeard I second Michael Moseley as an easy to follow book, but it didn’t work for me i was just too dramatic weak on the fast days, but I get weird blood sugar days anyway linked to my cycle, so that explains why it failed for me. Worth a try if you can stick to fast concept.

I’m going to try and follow my pinch of nom books and break sweat at least once a day. That’s my effort for end of Feb into March.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/02/2021 20:40

Excellent... This is what I need! Thanks jabba. I'm trying 16 8, but not particularly aiming for a particular calorie limit within that because I get stressed at that kind of thing. (Also our food scales have run out of batteries and I can't be arsed to work out which of the 70zillion battery types they need). I'm also doing a lent inspired no fun food apart from on Sundays, so no booze, cake, crisps, snacks, chocolate etc etc. Not sure how long I can cope with that, but hopefully if I can limit them to my eating window it shouldn't be too disastrous as they are generally "evening" things for me, so not allowed anyway!

Luckily I'm OK with black coffee (prefer it with milk, but hey) and quite like mint tea (in moderation) so I can replace my hot drinks outside the window with those. I would NOT cope without coffee in the morning, so I understand the problem if you can't have it black.

@Biscusting

Its hard to explain if you don't sign up to it. you can do it online, you don't need to go to classes.

Basically you limit your wheat intake - so breakfast would be 2 slices brown bread or 2 wheetabix. No other bread during the day (not even breadcrumbs on nuggets or what) unless you sign in. You also have a milk or cheese allowance each day. A glass of milk a day is roughly the allowance. You absolutely must have wheat and calcium each day

you are meant to fill 1/3 of your plate with veg/fruit but I confess I don't. I do eat lots of soup though.

You need to eat lean meat.

Its a lot of 'free food' which is things like fruit, veg, eggs, lean meat.

Everything else is syns. You are allowed a max of 15 syns a day.

But the best way to learn is to sign up to it.

I like it because its less restrictive than other diets. You can eat pretty much anything as long as you stick to free foods and no more than 15 syns a day.

unless you syn it

I've gained 3st over lockdown and my dad dying suddenly and Dh being ill. I need my physical weigh ins. Had lost 5.5st up to last March and kept it off for 2 years. I will fit into my summer stuff.

Biscusting · 21/02/2021 20:58

Thanks @jabbathebutt (excellent username) I’m just looking at the website now. I’m not great with fasting, this looks like a better option for me.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/02/2021 21:00
@kurtrussellsbeard the baby gets 1 bottle a day from dh as the doctor told us to put his gerd meds in a bottle of milk, it's usually expressed milk though rather than formula.
My supply probably is pretty robust tbf as long as I don't majorly restrict my calories I'm sure it would be fine.
Yes, agree you should be fine. I'm not entirely sure how I survived BF... We had huge difficulty getting established, I had low supply and DS would just feed for hours. So as I was either feeding him or expressing, I hardly found any time to eat (or did it one handed). I also had - um- issues with toileting Blush for a few months, which made me a bit afraid of the whole food/digestion thing, which didn't help. I was worried that my low supply was linked to not physically being able to eat. But my midwife reassured me that as long as I was eating something it would be going into milk, and anything above and beyond that would be going into me Grin I think she was saying it to get me to focus a bit more on my own nutrition, but it did reassure me that the milk supply wouldn't be especially adversely affected. Also, agree on the fenugreek (which makes you smell like maple syrup) which helped a little bit!

jabbathebutt · 21/02/2021 21:01

Thanks, its a vaccine inspired username :D

Right off to bed now. Get myself a good nights sleep before starting new job tomorrow and back on diet tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm going to bed too, I'm absolutely exhausted. Just going to plan my meals for tomorrow then hit the hay!

StarryEyeSurprise · 21/02/2021 21:07

Thanks Jabba. I also need to lose some weight- got a shock yesterday when I realised I've put on one and a half stone!

I'm planning a YouTube workout tomorrow.

shouldistop · 21/02/2021 21:08

@StarryEyeSurprise if you find a good 20 minute work out let me know. I don't have time for anything longer but maybe 20 mins 3 times a week and a daily walk would be good enough.

weegiemum · 21/02/2021 21:14

I'm in. I'm super overweight (don't want to share my bmi as it's in scary territory), and I've set a target to lose 5stone this year. I lost 3 stone on slimming world 3 years ago but have put 2 back on.

Part of my problem is that I'm disabled and can't move very much. But mostly it's that I eat too much. My other target this year is to walk round the block in our estate - measured it at 1/4 mile. I know it seems like a very short walk but with my balance/ mobility issues it's huge! I can already get to the corner and back which is about 200 steps.

I'm not going to slimming world but am going to use the basic meal plan I was on before. Dh is also in which is good, helps when I'm cooking. We have ds19 and dd2 (17) at home and most meals they'll eat too, mainly with more cheese! Set a good meal plan for this week. Posting my plans is good for me so this week it's:

Mon - lentil and aubergine chilli
Tues - tuna pasta bake
Wed - one-pot fajitas
Thur - freezer tea (have quite a lot of meals frozen so it's choose your own)
Fri - chickpea and spinach curry

We're not veggie but I found before that a couple of meat-free options a week really helped the weight loss.

Now I just have to get one of those cooking sprays. I've been too generous with the olive oil recently ....

StarryEyeSurprise · 21/02/2021 21:17

There's good ones from PopSugar. There's a boxing one I love ( I hate my arms). It's longer than 20 mins but you can always fast forward to miss out the sit ups etc. Wink The person doing it is a bit over the top enthusiastic!

kurtrussellsbeard · 21/02/2021 21:24

Oh yes I'd be into a twenty minute workout!

I was kind of doing joe wicks during the first lockdown. That did work up a sweat.

@shouldistop I have the utmost respect for attempting this while breastfeeding! I just kept eating shit and saying that's my extra 500 calories but I reality i was scoffing an extra 3000 probably

Groovee · 21/02/2021 21:45

I use the Lucy Wyndham-Read workouts.

blowinahoolie · 21/02/2021 21:47

I love love love the beef rendang recipe from Michael Mosley's book. The 800 one. Dabbled in this last year, lots of really nice meals to choose from.

I also have weight to lose😬 fresh start now as weather picking up. Frightened to step on scales. Going to fill up water bottle and drink instead of eating biscuits. No alcohol. And walk the dog each morning as the little ones will be back at nursery from tomorrow!🙌

blowinahoolie · 21/02/2021 21:49

For exercise, I used to do the Joanna Soh workouts on YouTube. She's brilliant and keeps you motivated!

Yes Groovee love Lucy workout videos too. I try and change them around so I don't get bored (I usually leave these for rainy days).

Keepmeawayfromthebuffet · 21/02/2021 22:13

Count me in!

I’ve got a stone and a half to lose. Managed to lose it 2 years ago by doing calorie deficit plan and getting my steps in every day. Hate exercise but don’t mind walking so going to start that again

NotAnActualSheep · 21/02/2021 22:23

weegiemum Do you have the lentil and aubergine chilli recipe you could share please? That sounds rather good!

And thanks for the workout suggestions folks. I started doing Joe Wicks in march but only lasted about a fortnight before I developed an allergy to his voice. DH still does it daily but I have to leave the room as he irritates me beyond belief. Which is odd, as I'm generally very calm and zen WinkHmm. I've been doing pilates with my pre-lockdown instructor who's moved onto zoom which is good, but I probably need to do something a bit sweatier too. Shame that my exercise of choice is swimming... the thing that is Never Going To Open. I loathe all other forms of exercise really, which is unfortunate.

WeAllHaveWings · 21/02/2021 23:09

Count me in too, need to stop eating and get my humungus arse in gear. Nice day here today and went to walk the dog, dh had been doing it mostly, and couldn't zip up my jacket 😳 drastic measures needed.

I bought a couple of tins of slimfast last year which are still in the cupboard unopened, worked when I last tried it 25 years ago 🤣, might try that for a quick start tomorrow.

JustAsWell · 21/02/2021 23:13

I'm in too! Put on so much weight that I'd managed to lose before and so annoyed with myself. Interested in the fasting idea but also not sure what approach to take.

hilbil21 · 21/02/2021 23:15

I lost 3 stone on WW but have been doing calorie counting and cannot see past it now! It's so much better than diet "clubs", wish I had started it years ago.
