@GoldenOmber yes even the sea might be off limits...jokes aside, hope you’re ok Cake
Thanks. Ah I’ll be okay, I’ve got a job and not worried about losing my house or anything so in a better place than many. It’s all just so gloomily bleak!

goodname · 24/02/2021 11:48

@StatisticallyChallenged. From that WHO document the levels mean totally different things so it’s like the Scottish government are using the WHO levels but applying them to their much much more restrictive levels. Level 0 is no restrictions as far as WHO is concerned and levels 1 & 2 are limited restrictions

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2021 11:56

@goodname yes, they're mismatched. As is the way we calculate positive rates. It's not a direct read across

Callisto1 · 24/02/2021 12:17

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the travel restrictions we are under prevent us from leaving our local area. But once we are allowed to travel across Scotland there is no legal way to stop us going to England. Or is there?

I think the trouble for people with family abroad is that you have to negotiate the restrictions in at least 2 countries. Maybe more if your closest airport is in a third country. Bit of mine field Sad

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 12:23

I can't fathom it @callisto1 but if they can fine us from leaving our council area, they can fine us for travelling to Scotland even without a hard border - if you rent self catering, presumably you're giving a Scottish address, and then you're relying on nobody reporting you.

I'd find that uncomfortable - I know it's unlikely you'd get reported but you might as people have such differing views on covid.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 12:24

sorry fine us for travelling to England or Wales or NI - suffering from brain fog today!

Just wanted to endorse AgentCooper reassurances. My DD1 has just renewed her Hall contract for the following year as have many of her friends. Her Scottish Uni is not intending no F2F going forward.

I wonder if the thinking is that Blended will remain an option for the much longer term as opposed to the only option. Most students would welcome more flexibility - I know I would have the year I missed more than a week of lectures due to snow. The Glasgow Unis have relatively high numbers of daily commuting students. Ever expanding student accommodation close to campus is progressing with no sign of planned long term reverse. Otoh eg HW and Calley both have established Overseas campuses and have been expanding their Brand Overseas rather than in Scotland.

UWS has campuses all over Scotland so again I can envisage embedding elements of Blended making sense more permanently.

At PG level there is already a lot of collaboration between institutions so Blended presents opportunities here too.

Longwinded way of saying it seems inevitable that Unis will be addressing their models to contingency plan and future proof. I also suspect there is an element of not wanting to be left carrying the can again in October so trying to force Govt's hand in order to plan and negotiate funding.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 12:35

yes students have been campaigning to have all lectures recorded for some time as it's more flexible if you miss them or have a part time job and can't make a particular time. Blended learning for unis should stay as an option.

Dinnafashyersel · 24/02/2021 12:35

Zoe App now showing infection rates similar to June 2020 so current caution to reopening looking ever more suspect.

Coquohvan · 24/02/2021 12:42

can anyone tell me what we didn't have in November?

That’ll be our wonderful vaccines @Statistically 1.5 million almost 27% off our population got first dose.

It’s all nuts.

I was discussing the SG response irl and a wise person pointed out they will have to loosen their position as the vaccine effects kick in. (It would certainly be rational. Plus a boost for their May election chances.)

Approaching zero covid just won't be a sustainable approach, so as politicians they'll ditch it. It cheered me up slightly anyway.

jabbathebutt · 24/02/2021 17:51

haven't been following the thread today. DD (13) is in tears because she is so fed up with lockdown learning and the fact I nearly wrote tiers instead of tears sums it up. Plus my work IT kept crashing so shitty day.

Someone update me on what nipoleon has been saying today.

@ProvisionallyAnxious

Apologies if this has been said already, but I'm so so disheartened and disillusioned by this NS quote from today:

"I certainly hope as we go further into the easing of lockdown, one of the things we can do is ease the travel restrictions within Scotland so that loved-ones who live in different parts of the country can get together again.

International travel restrictions I think will have to be in place for a bit longer..."

No mention of people with loved ones in other parts of the UK. The implication in paragraph 1 is very much about Scottish travel... Is England international now?

I campaigned for indy but fuck this.

Let's just say, she really doesn't make me feel welcome in my home country.

When you are on the outside looking in, you can see the division and hatred she is sowing.

As a Scot in England I am collateral damage. Nothing matters to her but independence.
