If she changes to the WHO range then if you have over 50 cases in 100k then it will still be illegal for you to travel.

rookiemere · 24/02/2021 08:11

No you're right folks, she can do what she wants. But I doubt - once hospitalisations sustainably down - that the police will have much desire to enforce it. I'm sure it was around June time last year that they came out and said that they were not going to be manning the borders - I'm hoping for something similar this year.

It's so frustrating- where is the effective opposition in Scotland? Boris is being forced into a middle ground position because of pressure on both side, now much as I don't want our policy to be dictated by a strongly right wing group of rich men, I do feel a bit of balancing is needed here.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 24/02/2021 08:13

No Uni in September?? I know a few of you work there? I'm a student. I will drop out if that's the case. This year online has been utter hell I can't do it again. I have never even been in the building

Surely the WHO levels would apply to something like Ebola and not to something that we have a vaccine for and that in the vast majority of the population is entirely treatable or requires no treatment at all?

shouldistop · 24/02/2021 08:23

@WaxOnFeckOff you'd think so.

Bytheloch · 24/02/2021 08:26

Police Scotland have again said - in the last few days- they don’t have border patrols. It was reported across the MSM.

Also because there is only a unicorn border*

*not a direct quote from Police Scotland

shouldistop · 24/02/2021 08:27

@rookiemere I don't think the police have an appetite to enforce a lot of these restrictions tbh, they're human too. I doubt the border will be manned. We've decided this morning that we're still going, we won't tell my 4yo where we're going until we're across the border as I don't think I could stand the heartbreak if we get turned back.

jabbathebutt · 24/02/2021 08:28

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 Its the case for my particular school in Glasgow and that's a very practical school so I'd be surprised if it was much different in other parts of the university. Where are you studying? We are also trying to attract more international students to our school which did make me go a bit Hmm

jabbathebutt · 24/02/2021 08:35

How many kids will realistically take up any summer school offer, I mean its summer? After a long lockdown they just want to play!

What a waste of money.

Might be good for those who need to work but would it just be like a sports club?

shouldistop · 24/02/2021 08:38

@Bytheloch cross post with you. That's good, at least I have our trip to look forward to in June now.

NearWildHeaven · 24/02/2021 08:39

@jabbathebutt and even if some kids do take it up, the reality is it won't be the ones who really need it

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 24/02/2021 08:39

@jabbathebutt it's a computing subject so zero chance of being allowed face to face I would imagine. Fuck me no normal in September? So if the English unis go back and we are still online what would happen there?

Bytheloch · 24/02/2021 08:47

@GoldenOmber yes even the sea might be off limits...jokes aside, hope you’re ok Cake

jabbathebutt · 24/02/2021 08:49

Anything could change between now and September but our head seemed pretty certain it wouldn't be f2f and that blended learning was here to stay. I think he said there had been some kind of student survey before I started where students were actually positive about zoom learning.

I can't get my teen off a screen and out of the house.
It's worrying me. And we can't be the only ones.

Here's the WHO doc. First thing - it's from November. Now it may have been updated and I can't find but can anyone tell me what we didn't have in November? The table on page 9 also has additional indicators, namely hospitalization and mortality rates.

Our hospitalisation rate is currently on the borderline between 2 and 3, and is declining rapidly due to vaccine. Mortality is currently c3 too but falling fast

We do go on "forced marches with mother" if the weather's not too grim.

It's not great feeling like a hostage taker either.Blush

Me too. I'm considering a year out now.
noname55 · 24/02/2021 09:39

Which I never wanted to do as an older student but I can't do another year from home.

AgentCooper · 24/02/2021 09:50

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 I’m professional services in Modern Languages at one of the biggest unis and we are aiming to have f2f going again in September. Fingers crossed. I don’t believe for a second that this has been a good year for students.

AgentCooper · 24/02/2021 09:52

For one thing, we have international students dialling into ‘classes’ at crazy times (like 1am) due to timezone differences and the drop out rate of students in that position is quite striking. It must be so stressful and absolutely not a level playing field.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 24/02/2021 09:52

@AgentCooper that gives me a little hope 🤞 it's honestly been a terrible year. Most of my lecturers have been brilliant and are trying their best to help us engage but a few just don't bother. I have been hanging on to getting through this year as I changed modules because some of the coding stuff is brutal online but I do want to learn it.

Fuck fuck fuck just feel so deflated just now

AgentCooper · 24/02/2021 09:54

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 believe me, continuing online is not what anyone wants at my work and there is a real push to go back to f2f. I’m so sorry you’ve had such a shit year, it’s really not ok.
