@icanboogieboogiewoogie The point I was trying to make is that a positive test is useful information for the person but isn't a way we should be measuring anything else. What's important is how many people are ill with covid enough to need hospitalisation. The rest is irrelevant as that number can be driven by the level of testing and who you are testing and doesn't really indicate whether things are worse or not.

Current rising hospital numbers don't either as I could have a positive test 2 weeks ago and get hit by a bus next week and I'd be listed as a covid patient.

We need proper MI and to stop basing things on how many people test positive.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 22:20

It had been reported before as care homes, hospitals and workplaces such as warehouses.

ssd · 15/11/2020 22:20

@littlbrowndog

But how do you know this ssd. ?

Where are the numbers. And if it so why are SG not closing down the stores. As they must be seeing this same cluster of outbreaks in stores surely ?

I only know as I know a lot of folks that work in retail, I don't mean official numbers. I'm talking about why the government are saying its rising in retail, I'm saying its rising due to staff infecting each other, not staff infecting customers. Also to be quite honest, some retailers don't have a clue and tell staff they can work when they can't. Retail is full of numpties, that's why it's spreading there. It's really nothing to do with the customers. That's my experience anyway.
WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 22:20

Lanarkshire and Glasgow have a lot of all these.

ssd · 15/11/2020 22:21

Stores don't close down when staff test positive. I don't know why, but they don't. And the other staff aren't even told.

ssd · 15/11/2020 22:22

You're not wrong.
WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 22:23

But then throughout the pandemic in march and april, shops were open and the levels of infections in staff were low and no higher than in the rest of the population outside of care environments. there are figures somewhere taken from across various countries. I probably saw it on one of Ivor Cummings briefings.

littlbrowndog · 15/11/2020 22:27

But we need official figures not just what people are saying as that is just a snapshot of people’s friends and not an overview of our country as to how the virus is in workplaces

And we need it from our government to be transparent.

ssd · 15/11/2020 22:31

Yes, staff have been working since March with the covid threat around and now they are used to it, they are comfortable and it's business as usual. Go into any supermarket, M&S, department stores, you'll see staff not social distancing more and more, that's why it's spreading. And of course most retail was furloughed but its all back now and business as usual.

ssd · 15/11/2020 22:33

Well we won't get it as test and protect or track and trace is all shite..
WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 22:34

@littlbrowndog yes. A clearly evidence based case set out by government is needed for public confidence in measures.

littlbrowndog · 15/11/2020 22:36

No ssd just no. Staff in shops are not causing the rise in numbers in Scotland

Scottish government would know this and be able to identify it as such

And most shoppers only interact with staff at checkout. We are not mingling with them. They are behind screens and wear masks.

ssd · 15/11/2020 22:38

@littlbrowndog don't no me, read my posts. I didn't say that FFS

littlbrowndog · 15/11/2020 22:51

Ssd I don’t want to have a scrap with you. But you did say the below

“Go into any supermarket, M&S, department stores, you'll see staff not social distancing more and more, that's why it's spreading. “

littlbrowndog · 15/11/2020 22:51

But anyway

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 22:54

Will this affect other hospital appointments?

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 22:58

Oh I don't know about that? Presumably not? You are still allowed to travel for medical reasons and can't see them stopping all outpatients etc as not in the position we were in march.

DS has actually done ok in that he got from phoning to GP to being seen at audiology within a month. Now waiting on ENT appointment at FVR so expecting a bit more of a wait for that but actually a reasonably good experience so far.

ssd · 15/11/2020 23:04

I don't want a scrap either, sorry for buying your head off. What I meant was go into any store and you'll see staff not social distancing with each other. That's why it's spreading in shops. Not from customers to staff, from staff to staff, that's why there's clusters in shops. Well, that's my opinion. Could be talking rubbish, wouldn't be the first time.

Basically, I voted yes and I'd like independence. I like NS but a lot of what the snp has done is nonsensical. BUT all that aside, I think it's spreading due to schools and people not social distancing, at workplaces and in homes.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 23:04

Been waiting since February for investigation “to check for no nasties” and finally have an appointment for December after having to get a private consult to move it along

ssd · 15/11/2020 23:05

Biting not buying. Stupid autocorrect.

Not good, hope all is well Flowers

DS has bad tinnitus and may or may not have hearing loss ( they can't be completely sure because they play him sounds and he can't always differentiate between those and the ones in his head). The pressure test showed that he has an issue in that same ear.

Dr google says it's unlikely to be anything suspicious but might not be anything treatable either. We are just crossing our fingers for a reason that is treatable.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 23:15

@WaxOnFeckOff that sounds really unpleasant- hope it gets resolved soon.

Speaking of hospitals, how did you get on @StatisticallyChallenged?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/11/2020 23:18

Already have that slightly puke-y feeling about Tuesday’s review, and it’s only Sunday. Hope everyone has had as good a weekend as possible.

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 23:19

Thanks, I get overly concerned as a friend committed suicide over tinnitus, it literally drove her to jump off a bridge just to make it stop.

Anyway, I hope you get your tests and al is fine. Same to all trying to get health issues dealt with at the moment.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/11/2020 23:29

Much use as a chocolate fireguard @WouldBeGood sadly. They didn't find anything, but it's an intermittent issue and the endoscopic ultrasound doesn't pick up the thing it is most likely to be (sphincter of oddi dysfunction)

They're doing the classic nhs of working through tests very slowly, process of elimination style except they just stop when they don't find something wrong at the next test, then I have to wait til it happens again. But it's a problem which most commonly occurs in people who have had gallbladder removal which is dominated by women who have had kids. So a group that aren't generally listened to. They didn't actually believe me last time until a doctor happened to come round while I was rocking on the bed crying in pain. The nurse (who I hadn't spoken to much so wasn't prompted by me) actually said afterwards "maybe they'll believe you now". Problem is when it's happening the pain comes in waves and you see the doctor maybe once a day for 60 seconds..
