October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

tits - exactly! People pay me to make risk assessments for them, and I am so tired of being treated like a 6 year old. I've followed all the rules, but the current restrictions don't make sense from a scientific view

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 21:42

I’d rather vote for a party than an individual and am a liberal/socialist at heart so would like to vote Labour.

I rate Joanna Cherry as an individual.

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 21:43

@Slightlybrwnbanana it’s been a long lockdown 😂😂🍷

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/10/2020 21:44

We don't vote for who will be FM officially. We vote for the person that we think will provide the best support for our area and whose political views mostly align with our own. The FM is usually the leader of whichever party gets the most votes.

Personally I'd like to see what was expected when Holyrood was set up which is a broader split of representation and an FM chosen from the parties with the most votes.

There really is a dearth of talent across all of Scottish (and UK) Politics so no-one that immediately springs to mind.

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 21:46

@WaxOnFeckOff yes, I’d like to see a good spread and proper opposition to whichever party is in power. I agree about the lack of talent too. Listening to the Scottish Parliament is just so depressing

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 21:46

We should maybe set up a Scotsnet party 😂

titsbumfannythelot · 05/10/2020 21:47

Just as qualified as the current numbskulls

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/10/2020 21:48

Scots Net PArty = SNP - sounds familiar though... :o

Ecosse · 05/10/2020 21:48

I’ll be voting Lib Dem certainly on the list and whoever has the best chance of defeating the SNP in my constituency.

I’ve always thought Willie Rennie is a good politician and he’s been one of the only people willing to challenge the SNP over their COVID shitshow.

ClarencesMum · 05/10/2020 21:48

I'm up for that.

I'll even stop swearing.

rookiemere · 05/10/2020 21:49

Much as I'm no SNP fan, I'm pretty sure whichever party was in charge would have struggled with this. Boris - or whoever pulls the strings behind Boris - is making roughly the same decisions and you could argue that we're now paying the price for the more economically focused ones - Eat out to Help out anyone?

I'm now completely cynical about any covid related numbers coming from either Scottish or British government. Would be good to know any other causes of death on death certificates and if those in hospital with covid were in originally suffering from covid, or something else.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/10/2020 21:49

First thing on the Manifesto - immediate expulsion of anyone with a chip on their shoulder?

ClarencesMum · 05/10/2020 21:52

I agree rookie but I struggle to go any further down that line without sounding like a complete conspiracy theorist. Someone or something elseisnpullong the strings here, there's more to it. Just some leaders are relishing the demise of our freedoms more than others.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/10/2020 21:53

rookie, that is one of my biggest frustrations.

I agree to a point as well about focussing specifically on the handling of covid. Many folk haven't got this right, but this far in we should be getting it more right?

The handling of covid isn't my only issue with how things are being run.

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 22:11

Big yes to this!
throwingawaymyshot · 05/10/2020 22:13

Its between SNP and Labour here.

I hate the SNP and Labour are considering Independence which I'm 100% against.

Any other vote could be wasted, so I might just vote Labour and hope they are only considering independence to get votes and not actually cause they are serious.

I'm increasingly convinced SNP will lose seats (possibly Tories too) but SNP might still be largest party.

God I hope Swinney loses his seat. Unlikely but miracles can happen.

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 22:16

I’m not a nationalist but my dislike of the way this is being handled is not party political. They all seem hopeless. I’m tired of being spoken to like a naughty child.

Our policies could be to treat the electorate like adults. Make sensible and coherent decisions to protect society whilst allowing life to continue, and not just Covid as a priority. Admitting if we have fucked up and taking on board opinions to fix it.

LizzieMacQueen · 05/10/2020 22:19

Are Labour supporting independence? I'd missed that. Shit.

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2020 22:35

@LizzieMacQueen I think they’re considering their position as regards a referendum.

Torvean32 · 05/10/2020 22:55

No way am i accepting lockdown again.

Yesterday
758 new case of COVID in Scotland .

580 of those are in 3 health boards, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Lothian and NHS Lanarkshire.

No positive tests were found in the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.

So 76.52 % cases are in 3 health boards

If any special measures need brought in, it's in the West.
Stop sanctioning the rest of us, when our numbers are low.,

AgentCooper · 05/10/2020 23:11

To be honest, I don’t know anyone who is fully sticking to the rules this time. And I can’t think of anyone I know who didn’t comply last time. There just isn’t the appetite for it now, people are exhausted, depressed, isolated, worried about their jobs. And fed up of being told it’s our fault that the last lockdown didn’t eradicate the virus. I do think Nicola has gone too political with this and has been desperate to seem more hardline, therefore more capable, than Johnson. But I think the way the students have been treated and the unjustified nationwide restrictions have really backfired.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 05/10/2020 23:25

I stick to the rules, maybe I'm just too law-abiding at heart. Oh I did contravene them once by meeting one additional household at a family funeral, I don't regret that though.

Bytheloch · 05/10/2020 23:34

@MumofHunter

Out of interest, how would you vote for to be FM? Promise not being snarky, just wondering what people's thoughts are as know a few have written similar.
A variation on this question is- who would you like to see handling the covid crisis right now? Both the FM and PM should go back to the day jobs, or in the FM’s case, at least have some days off! Nobody would advocate working for so long under crisis conditions. If it was a friend or family member you’d be gently encouraging them to step back and refresh before they burned out. I favour a pan-UK covid committee- made up from the top justice, health professionals, police and scientists from across the country- to take over and deliver a strategy for recovery based on society living with the virus, until a vaccine can be offered and available to those most in need.
titsbumfannythelot · 06/10/2020 06:16

I think we need to accept that Covid is endemic and to find a way to live with it. It's not going away and whilst I truly hope that a vaccine is created, it just might not happen.

The elimination strategy is just not going to happen.

Jodri · 06/10/2020 07:04

@Bytheloch yes Good idea and I don’t know why a pan-uk committee wasn’t set up initially.
