As far as i can see the spread started in Glasgow then spread to the areas around it.
NS failed to sanction them properly.
She locked Aberdeen at 82 cases.

Cases in Grampian and the Highlands are low. We are now being unfairly sanctioned. The whole thing is a joke.

NS doesn't have the guts to fully lockdown Glasgow.

Ppl in Aberdeen have less trust in NS as this goes on.

It’s not how I would have done any of it. February - I would have cancelled the foreign travel to Italy. Bonkers. As was the care home fiasco.

I would have then let it roll through in the summer, pre-flu whilst chucking a tonne of cash and support at those who are most at risk.

Now? Just too late. Can’t supress. What is the point? I genuinely fear for people’s mental health, jobs and the economy. So no I don’t agree. Useless government

Laaalaaaa · 22/09/2020 16:30

100% agree with you. She refused to get a handle on Glasgow, now for those of us who had to suffer a local lockdown we’re being kept away from our families again. Not fair.

Thistlegirl4 · 22/09/2020 16:38

I think alot of people disagree with how it is and has been handled. Does anyone else get the irony of being able to socialise in the garden? Has she forgotten the cold, windy, rainy Autumn climate we have here...

IwishIwasyoda · 22/09/2020 16:38

I think it is all stupid and contradictory.
So I can no longer visit my elderly parents in their home, but they could provide 'informal childcare'.
My DC can sit in an extremely small classroom with 29 others all day but then cannot play with his friend at home (the same friend he has just sat in class next to all day)
So I think indoor children's classes can open up and children can mix from all areas (but again my DC cannot play with best friend in their home)
A maximum of six people from two households can meet in public indoor spaces such as cafes, pubs and restaurants but we cannot distance in each others homes.
I rest my case

MrsAmaretto · 22/09/2020 16:46

Yes, I believe her failure to lockdown Glasgow has caused this. I’m annoyed that we’re being punished for this failure.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 22/09/2020 16:47

Makes not a bit of sense to impose restrictions scotland wide when the worst of it is Glasgow et al. I have a cottage booked for October hols in Aberdeen to see my sister, I will still be going unless cottage cancels. Basically we can go and meet in a pub or restaurant but she can’t come to me or me to her house? It’s bloody stupid

Shooglywheel · 22/09/2020 16:49

The rules are utterly ridiculous and make no sense.

Palladin · 22/09/2020 17:18

She's lost any sympathy I may have had for her.

anditfreezesme · 22/09/2020 17:25

I think the part that I find most ridiculous is that my parents can watch my children for me while
I'm at work but the second I return home they would have to leave or it would be illegal...Hmm

dementedma · 22/09/2020 17:26

Yet more inconsistencies. If my 85 year old disabled mother could get herself to the nearest pub, the family or friends could meet her there. In her own home, who knows because there is no definition of what an "extended household" is. She is fretting that her lovely cleaner and helper now wont be able to come. But tradespeople are exempt so I presume cleaners are now tradespeople?
I have been "working from home/living at work" since March. My only escape has been the very occasional visit to a friends house to protect my mental health. Now thats gone. We have a current rate of 17 infections in 100000 people up here.
Sturgeon is an egotist and bloody dangerous

MonTheGoose · 22/09/2020 17:29

I’m really pissed off with her. She absolutely should have shut Glasgow down but didn’t for political purposes. Now all of Scotland gets punished instead.
I was supposed to be going to my mum and dads next week for their 50th anniversary but that’s been cancelled (we all live in an area wit low levels of covid) Very upset about it. It’s been one fucking shit thing after another this year and it’s tipped me over the edge.

MumofHunter · 22/09/2020 17:38

We've got a few outbreaks in Inverness which will get higher and Highlands is already 16 higher than last week and we're only on Tuesday.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 22/09/2020 17:39

Fucked off with the lot of it, tbh. Stupid and nonsensical.

Arkadia · 22/09/2020 17:43

To answer your original question I would start by getting the phone book and/or the electoral register. If you count all the people in there you won't be far off the mark...

And in any case, we suppress, stop the virus, save lives, yada yada yada
*and then what??" Can someone explain to me what the end game is? I REALLY don't know.
I suppose we are going to be in some form of lockdown until June next year, when then we will start "suppressing the virus" over the summer, only to start all over again in the autumn. Groundhog Day anyone?
I hope you are getting along fine with your family... you are going to be stuck with them for a looooong time.

JudgeRindersMinder · 22/09/2020 17:49

I absolutely agree with you. I’ve actually been feeling real rage at this announcement today. My own life won’t actually be that different, but it’s the removal of my choice, as a responsible face covering wearing adult to make my own choices.
If I hadn’t lost my care home residing dad to covid in May, I genuinely think I’d have been arrested by now for whatever action I’d have taken to get in to see him

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/09/2020 17:53

I disagree with her too - she should have imposed a travel distance limit too. Although the current regs in the west of Scotland are working slowly they are not strong enough IMO.

This would also help prevent the importation of the virus into areas like the Highlands and Islands.

angelopal · 22/09/2020 17:56

Totally agree. Aberdee lockdown worked but all she is doing now is putting the same restrictions on all of us. Glasgow and surrounding areas need to be locked down to get cases under control.

anon444877 · 22/09/2020 17:58

I did think at this stage of the game we'd see more nuanced policies, more strengthening of restrictions in higher covid areas rather than blanket policies. They must think local lockdowns are politically unpalatable.

Mychitchatdays · 22/09/2020 18:03

I've had enough of the whole thing, total waste of time lock down will not solve the problem.
Although decisions I would have made would have been similar as I wouldn't want to lose my job if I worked in politics.

I wouldn't have put any restrictions in place as it's a virus that won't disappear and there may never be a vaccination.

MonTheGoose · 22/09/2020 18:04

It just feels like a whole class punishment that teachers inflict when it’s just one wee toerag that’s ruined it for everyone.

JudgeRindersMinder · 22/09/2020 18:07

@MonTheGoose

It just feels like a whole class punishment that teachers inflict when it’s just one wee toerag that’s ruined it for everyone.
You’ve summed it up perfectly!
derxa · 22/09/2020 18:08

I'm done with it.

SBTLove · 22/09/2020 18:14

Glasgow and the West have been under new restrictions for the last few weeks.I think this has been brought in as people refuse to comply, the increase is from under 40s and traced to households ie family gatherings/ parties. It will be reviewed inn3 wks or when R number is down to 4.
If people won’t comply what do you expect?

Anotherthink · 22/09/2020 18:17

Sorry, as an outsider I'm curious what the political reasons would be for NS not locking down in Glasgow. Is it because of the size of the area so there would be a big backlash?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 22/09/2020 18:18

I'm done with it. I can't meet my pal in my house for a coffee but we can go to a cafe or a bar? Why is this better? And the sop of 'garden visits' - well that's going to last for approximately 9 days isn't it, because it's going to be October and it's going to be freezing.
