At least a foot here in Glasgow, have never seen anything like it in the 11 years we've lived here.

Thinking back to my childhood in the east of Scotland I remember snow, but nothing this bad.

How long is it all going to take to thaw???

We've just been having this conversation I've never seen this much snow in my back garden and we lived in Canada!

The dog won't go out in it and I can't blame him as its up to his chin so am going to have to carry him somewhere when he gets desperate for a pee.

Groovee · 01/03/2018 09:06

Cleared about 4 inches off my drive last night... woke up to this this morning.

It's normal for me back home (a bit of Italy where people ski) but it's the most I've seen in England.
Overall I like it...its a proper winter weather rather than the endless gray rainy days you get most winters!

Groovee · 01/03/2018 09:15

This is the path DH cleared. Had cleared it all last night.

Tisnt like you Scots to mention it so it must be bad.
Hope you are all keeping warm.

LittleCandle · 01/03/2018 09:40

This is the worst I've seen since 2010, which is one of the worst winters I can remember and we had some pretty grim ones in the 70s and 80s.

k2p2k2tog · 01/03/2018 09:45

It's drifting very badly too. I have no plans to go out today, can probably get away with not going out until Monday as long as the local shop gets a bread/milk delivery.

DH had to abandon his car about 4 miles away yesterday and walk home so we'll have to get that back at some point.

Still falling and drifting

Just outside Glasgow and we’ve loads! :) we don’t have to go out though and DH doesn’t have to go to work so I don’t mind. Kids are enjoying some lazy days but it’s too cold to go out to play in the snow lol

prettybird · 01/03/2018 09:59

I can remember snow this deep from about 17 years ago - have a lovely picture of the house with a thick layer of snow on the front wall.

This is our back garden: the raised veg beds have almost disappeared! Grin

Our down pipes (on an exposed eastern wall) have now frozen. Last time they did this was in the Great Freeze of 2010 Shock

Snow - never seen anything like it

I'm in Stirling and there's about 7inches in total. Nowhere near as much as some of you! I'm disappointed and relieved at the same time Grin

PiggyPlumPie · 01/03/2018 10:42

NE Scotland 2010 was deeper for us and more sustained.

Iamtheresurrection · 01/03/2018 10:47

2010 was worse in Fife

AHintOfStyle · 01/03/2018 11:48

We had snow here like this in 2010 but that built up over a while, this has only taken 3 days!!

8misskitty8 · 01/03/2018 14:31

I actually think this could be worse than 2010 . No trains since 2pm yesterday and no buses running since 7pm last night and won’t be on at all today.
Red alert since yesterday.

Today pupils were off but school staff had to go to their school or if they couldn’t get there then their nearest school. Police said only emergency workers should travel but our council didn’t care.
I had to wade through calf high snow down the hill to my school, only to be told to go home at 10am. Only a few staff made it in, headteacher didn’t.
Snow still heavy but council not decided if schools are of tomorrow yet !

Blizzards started here in south west, at the this rate we will be snowed in shortly. The cold is certainly Baltic, very extreme and you could turn to stone.

trixymalixy · 01/03/2018 15:22

The snow we have is pitiful compared to some of your pictures!! I'm quite disappointed.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 01/03/2018 15:26

It's nearly to my knees here (south stirlingshire) but 2010 was worse although if it keeps up for the next two days we might top it.
No one in our street has been out or moved cars.

Igneococcus · 01/03/2018 15:29

Absolutely nothing in Northern Argyll where I am. A couple of snowflakes drifting around. It's hard to believe there is all this snow just behind the hills from us.

TheFaerieQueene · 01/03/2018 15:31

I’m in Oxfordshire and is isn’t too bad. I did need my crampons to walk the dog in the woods today and it is bloody freezing.

Ocado have just been, I was a tad worried they wouldn’t make it, but hurrah to them.

There aren’t many other cars out on the road here, except the odd defender or two.

Keep safe everyone.

raglansleeve · 01/03/2018 15:39

We’re central Borders - DH is out shovelling paths and couldn’t resist measuring - 39cm, nearly 16”. Worst we’ve had since 2010, but it’s not as cold as 2010, so hopefully it’ll disappear quickly when it finally stops snowing.
