At least a foot here in Glasgow, have never seen anything like it in the 11 years we've lived here.

Thinking back to my childhood in the east of Scotland I remember snow, but nothing this bad.

How long is it all going to take to thaw???

I got milk fine yesterday but no bread anywhere got rolls this morning, Ithink panic buying will stop soon as it thaws

Lucked · 04/03/2018 16:34

Our local Tesco had no milk and no much of anything but the Scotmid had huge amounts from Graham’s dairy and milk ch better stock. No fresh bread though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/03/2018 16:37

Bread and milk still scarce here, selling out in minutes.
I've an Asda delivery booked for tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see how much turns up (also have a Tesco for Tuesday as back up)
We don't really need much though, and could do without anything, it's times like this I don't feel so bad about me being a hoarderGrin

Garmadonsmum · 04/03/2018 16:49

SChools (mostly) back tomorrow, though I’ve just seen that Fife Primaries (just primaries so far) are to shut.

jay95 · 04/03/2018 17:01

Thawing - apart from the giant iceberg at the top of our road.

Snow - never seen anything like it
WickedGoodDoge · 04/03/2018 17:06

DC’s school is back tomorrow and the school bus is running though might have some delays. DS is relieved- he didn’t want to miss more with exams coming up. Plus he’s been going stir crazy at home - he’s normally doing swimming related activities all weekend but they’ve been cancelled. I’d told him that if his school bus didn’t run but the school was open, I’d drive him to school!

DD would like more time off. Grin

The local primary schools are closed tomorrow but the high schools are open.

MoreProsecco · 04/03/2018 17:35

Can't wait for it to melt & get back to running again; it's been nearly a week & my step count has been bad in this crappy weather. Was just beginning to get my running times down again after the bad weather over the festive period and then this weather starts! Xx

MoreProsecco · 04/03/2018 17:36
  • why did I put Xx at the end of the message? BlushShockConfused
MrsJayy · 04/03/2018 17:39

Cos you clearly love us mwahGrin

EmyRoo · 04/03/2018 17:52

We have got notice that the secondary schools are open, nothing about the primary schools yet.

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 04/03/2018 18:13

I’m next to a primary school in Bishy, a team of people spent hours clearing the road / paths and now EDC are saying primaries might not be opening!! G’aaaah. I need to leave the house (and get away from my children).

OldTimeStringBand · 04/03/2018 18:15

I don't know how councils work it out. It seems easy to get the kids in, it's the staff that are the problem Confused

EmyRoo · 04/03/2018 18:30

Yes, I was hoping to get some time myself tomorrow too Biscuit

Readermumof3 · 04/03/2018 18:43

I know quite a few schools which have no staff who live within 15/20 miles of the school. It's not a requirement of the application form yunno Hmm I am still cut off in my village unless I have a tractor so shoot me

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 04/03/2018 18:51

Ehm. Ok. Confused

EmyRoo · 04/03/2018 18:51

Totally understand that Readermum but I am allowed to want time to catch up on stuff, no criticism was intendedHmm

Garmadonsmum · 04/03/2018 19:18

Oldtime I don’t think that’s (always) true - in Fife all schools are shut tomorrow but the staff are expected to come in. Says this on their website.

MyNameIsNotSteven · 04/03/2018 19:31

Mind you differing mindset in those days a very strong we can cope attuide was around

God I loathe this attitude.

Yogafailure · 04/03/2018 19:44

I have to try and get to my school, and therefore swap the last few days with my own dc to go do...something at school. I'll get time to catch up with things...erm....on Saturday, when I trail my dcs with me 🤔

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 04/03/2018 19:51

EDC schools are open. I know not everyone can get where they need to be, but I for one, am so glad. I’ve had to work, either from Home or battle into the office, everyday of the snow.

EmyRoo · 04/03/2018 20:52

Oh for goodness sake, yoga, I am a single mother with two DC, one with additional needs. I work too. I made a comment about wanting some time to myself on Monday, which I had planned. How very dare I?

I simply cannot catch up on things on Saturday with DC with additional needs there.

I am exhausted. What works with DS is having routine. That routine has not been there, added to the fact it is difficult to get out the house to do the things which calm him down. That is no-one’s fault, but that was the context of my comment.

But hey, thanks people, good to know there is loads of support on here Hmm

Yogafailure · 04/03/2018 22:09

Wasn't aware I was having a go at anyone just venting off that we all have cabin fever and I'm way behind with everything but crack on. I've a SN 9 year old if you wanna swap notes? 🙈

Justaboy · 05/03/2018 00:04

MyNameIsNotSteven Loath that attuide but it was there, that generation had just been through the second world war and they were used to hardship. They didn't give up easily and that includes the powers that be who ran evereything like the railways they had locomoties running up and down the tracks at night keep them clear, they ran the bus engines more of less all the time so that didn't have a problem re starting them.

At school we were told to keep our coats on and if we were cold run on the spot to warm up. I remeber my dad up in the loft to unfreeze the pipes almost on a daily basis no chance of getting a plummer in!.

Differnt times.

k2p2k2tog · 05/03/2018 08:13

Jay95 - scenes in our street broadly similar to yours. Black road, surrounded by snow walls.

it's definitely thawing, although it's going to take a week at least for it all to go. Kids off to school in their wellies.

@Justaboy

I feel for that generation and the trauma they went through, both individually and as a society. It has echoed down the decades since then. It made sense as what else could they do. But, it is not necessary now, thankfully.

You might be interested in Carol Craig's work tracing the intergenerational impact of that trauma in Scottish society.

There is a lot of movement in multiple areas of Govt at the moment about ACEs. Dr Burke is coming to Scotland this year to speak.
