Any appetite for a continuance or have I missed the new thread?
There was quite a heated squabble respectful exchange of views so I am sure there is more to be said......

We're already £600 a year down due to council tax rises as our family income hasn't increased at all. That's £60 less every month we will spend on leisure activities.

I thought universal income basically replaced the tax allowance or is it a much higher amount?

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 11:53

As that happens people will leave reducing tax revenue. The amount of ubi will be reduced and public services will be cut and cut until we live in dramatic poverty

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 12:00

I worry about the future of the NHS if the whole 'Brexit tax haven' idea goes ahead.

I think there is a difference between a race to the bottom and making the uk moderately attractive.

I suspect it is very unlikely that there will be a need as I think negotiations will go well.

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 12:00

Sorry bold fail

This was a shock to the system because the SNP were stupidly freezing it for so long. In normal circumstances it would have gone up over time.

Iamtheresurrection · 22/03/2017 12:05

I think the lack of communication was the biggest shock! Quite a few of my neighbours only found out when the got their bill last week!

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 12:09

We got a letter to say ours went up 17%, then the bill came through and it wasn't as high as that.

Need to phone and check because I don't want them demanding it off me.later.

Fontella · 22/03/2017 12:19

The Express again - but I know you lot have got a good sense of humour so won't mind me posting ....

Mhairi Black tweeted that London had more MPs than Scotland, so a whole country could be outvoted by one city - not fair!

The replies are classic ...

The council tax freeze was one of the SNP's most stupid policies. Essentially giving a tax cut to the rich while taking away essential services from the poor and needy.

All while brainwashing the fuckwits into thinking it's a "progressive policy" Hmm.

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 12:22

I know this is the telegraph but the headline made me giggle.

www.google.co.uk/amp/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/18/nicola-sturgeon-heading-extreme-independence-outside-british/amp/

If that isn't what she wants I still think that will be what she gets.

Fontella · 22/03/2017 12:27

Just watching PMQs on Parliament Live.

Two UK MPs just spoken - both Scottish! I think it's brilliant that we have Scottish MPs in the UK

The two speakers I just heard are

Alex Cunningham (Stockton North, Labour)
John Stevenson (Carlisle, Conservative)

I'd be interested to find out if there are more.

Exactly it was a disgrace.

I was Hmm about business rates going up so dramatically. They are very anti business which in turn is anti employees unfortunately.

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 12:44

If you mean scottish mps representing english constituencies there are loads and always have been.

We are also lucky to have so many seats in Westminster and our own parliment.

I would question it's usefulness at the moment. Westminster is representing the will of the Scottish people more than the scottish parliment.

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/03/2017 12:53

Ben Proctor added: “My Gran was your maths teacher. I know fine well that she taught you that 8million is larger than 5million…”

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/03/2017 12:54

anybody else thinks twitter needs a poo icon? So instead of loving something you can indicate it is excrement?

Fontella · 22/03/2017 12:55

Yes I do!

I have it on in the background while I'm working and as soon as I hear a Scottish accent, I assume SNP and they will be talking about independence, so to hear two Scottish MPs on the trot, neither one talking about the referendum, but actually talking about other issues, was quite refreshing!

Fontella · 22/03/2017 12:56

so to hear two Scottish MPs

What I mean of course is two Scottish MPs with Scottish accents, but representing English constituencies!

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 12:59

I know what you mean Grin

Fontella · 22/03/2017 13:00

This is utterly fabulous ....

Watch the whole thing please ... it's only a minute long but watch till the end!

bathshebaneverdene · 22/03/2017 13:02

Rory Stewart is another Scot representing an English seat (OK, so he was born in HK but only because his father was in the diplomatic service there). I quite like him - bit of a renaissance man, don't know what he's like as an MP though.

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 13:02

There was the speech the other day where she invited people to come to scotland as it isn't full.

When I saw all here supporters jumping up and down dramatically clapping I realised it reminded me of something.

The church of scientology.

Thegruffalowswife · 22/03/2017 13:04

That was the most brilliant thing I have ever seen!!!

I sometimes do the same and have it on in the background. You have me wistfully remembering times when Scottish MPs (by which I mean MPs representing Scottish constituencies) used to ask questions about the things that matter in daily life, rather than endless variations on the theme of Independence/Scotland's voice must be heard/Democratic outrage. I wonder if we'll even get back to that?

Calyx72 · 22/03/2017 13:10

Laughed at this (that mug! JC's phone!) Grin

bathshebaneverdene · 22/03/2017 13:10

Actually, Rory Stewart did a TV prog about the England/Scotland border and what a completely arbitrary line it is - it's actually a really interesting series.
