My son has been attending a new school for the last year and a half.

It took me a LONG while to be accepted into a Mum's group and tbh they are all a bit rough and didnt align with how I live but some were lovely so it didnt bother me. Some less nice. Some a little awful

Over the last 3 months I became in increasingly concerned about one Mum. She openly lies about her health to get benefits, gives 'advice' on how to milk the system and has a child in year 5 and one in year 8. She is fairly nasty and aggressive. Very mouthy and the whole eff the police and government type. Both kids are ND and cognitively impaired. She took drugs and drank during both her pregnancies as 'no doctor is gonna tell me what to do'.

Anyway this all came to ahead recently when I found out her new partner was unable to see his bio kids due to allegations of sexual abuse. He had spent years inside for violent crime and has tear drop tattoos on his face as well as other various ones on his body including two fairly racist ones. She has moved him in weeks after his release. He is also a heavy drug user.

Then the revelation. She was showing some weekend pics (she went on a boozy weekend) and when I asked where her kids were revealed she frequently left her 9 year old alone with her partner overnight. The same day I found this out she also revealed that she had got annoyed at the kids laughing/making noise on the PS5 and so when her elder DC had walked passed her to get a drink she 'tapped' him with the hot iron - it didnt blister but left a red burn. This is why she went on a boozy weekend, she wanted a break.

The same day this conversation happened I spoke to the school, I did a Sarah's law and called the councils safeguarding team. I told them of both events

I then spoke to the other mums in the group who have known her years and they revealed lots of other horror stories, including how she had temporarily lost custody of her eldest when he was a baby due to her drug use and choice of partner. Her son is also known to SS and the police for another reason which is too outing to say here. It was all very shrug shrug what can we do its what shes like shell never change etc

Later that night I couldnt sleep worrying and called their emergency out of hours service and spilled every single observation I had, stuff I had witnessed and screenshots from her social media page and WhatsApp group messages. All the little niggly things, references and minor concerns.

A few days pass and suddenly I am blocked by ALL the school mums in this friend group. No one is speaking to me. Nothing. We go to clubs together on a Wednesday and no one turned up. All sorts.

Yesterday one of the more distant mums approached me and revealed that both SS and police had attended the property, the partner was in violation of something and was removed and the Mum was questioned. The kids are now on a child protection plan and are having weekly visits. The Mum is ENRAGED.

The issue is this - when I called the emergency line I was quite upset and spilled EVERYTHING - including a detail only I knew. When she was questioned she was asked about this event that only I saw and hence knows its me and has told the others. The others feel that I have betrayed the confidence of the mum group and that we all struggle at times and that I have basically been a snake.

I am finding it hard - I am ASD and struggle socially anyway and theres loads more context here as a LAC myself and wanting to fit in etc. But there was no way I couldnt not do anything.

My BIG fear though - her partner is violent and a heavy drug user. She knows where I live and now she knows I reported her. SS and the police promised to keep my details confidential and did - I slipped when I revealed an event that only I knew about and basically outed myself

Not sure what I am asking. Just feeling nervous. But also very very sad for the kids and myself. I have always been on the outside and finally found people to do playdates with and now I have lost that. I dont regret what I did.

I am curious, OP, as to how you seem to know so much about the partner’s non-facial tattoos.

It's not that hard to imagine in a world where the woman openly and unashamedly told others of the fact she physically abused her child that she also openly and unashamedly informed them of details around her partner including his tattoos, surely?!

McDonaldsLover88 · 20/10/2026 22:25

OP, you are a hero. You have done the right thing.

You don't deserve to hang around with people who protect abusers. You have demonstrated how much stronger you are than any of these people simply by saying something.

You have such a good heart.

Sending big hugs.

Bowies · 20/10/2026 22:25

You have absolutely done the right thing and would have felt much worse if something even worse happened to them and you kept quiet.

Likely he is not allowed contact with DC and hadn’t disclosed. Shocking she would expose her DC to sexual abuse as well as her own physical violence burning with an iron.

I’m amazed she still has custody.

Sorry about how this has affected you. The other mums aren’t weren’t knowing either though if they would rather support her rather than safeguard vulnerable children. Maybe they are scared of her, but no excuse IMO.

WhatMe123 · 20/10/2026 22:27

Good on you op

LondonLass2026 · 20/10/2026 22:30

I was heavily supportive as taxi driver, childcare and PA to some of the Mums. So it'll be nice to have that time back

I did a lot for the Mum group. A lot of them cant drive so I would do nearly daily lifts, would write their emails, did ones foodshop every week and loads of other bits.

Op, why did you do so much for these dreadful women? I hate to say it but coupled with the fact they've all turned on you so fast, it looks like they might have been using you all along.

I would not bother with a single one of them again, and definitely secure your home. I was in that situation in London when a bunch of horrible youths started attacking my house over years, for absolutely no reason. The police sent a guy round to install a "better" front door peephole but it was actually so bad that my partner removed it. I hope they're more helpful nowadays!

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 20/10/2026 22:31

She doesnt know anything for sure unless you admit to her (or the others) it was you. Deny everything if asked. Absolutely get a ring camera, put some massive blokes work boots outside your front door.
It sounds like you did so much for these mums, im sure they'll be missing you more than you're missing them!
I do think you should consider moving schools. It'd give you the chance to really find your people. These weren't it.

Gizzasec · 20/10/2026 22:32

Bloody well done OP!!! Don't worry about the things the kids are missing out on, they will understand later on and know their mum to be One Of The Very Best. I hope I'd have the guts to do the same. And yes, think about moving away if you possibly can. Why should you or your kids carry on getting anxiety & gawd knows what else just because of one horrible, f*cked-up person & a bunch of cowardly hangers-on. You deserve better. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

childrenaremyworld · 20/10/2026 22:32

I’m proud of you for taking a stand and protecting the kids. Hold your head up high, you have done nothing wrong. You will eventually find your ‘group’, could you enrol your child in activities after school? It will be a good way to form a new social circle. Also the mums unfortunately took advantage of your kindness xx

Justgorgeous · 20/10/2026 22:35

Well done is all I can say. They aren’t your friends. Stay strong and any threats, call the police.

Bowies · 20/10/2026 22:35

ThatLemonBee · 20/10/2026 20:51

You did the right thing but for your sake and your child’s move to a better area as soon as you can , and I know this did not always possible , but why do you want to have your child around that sort of social issues and dangers . Consider moving , and even if it means a move far away maybe it’s for the better in the long term .

I was wondering about this.

Seems an upheaval, but may be worth it if possible to move area or at least change school, as it’s an extreme situation that is being normalised by others.

I wouldn’t want my DC to be part of this school community or to be part of it myself.

QueenietheGreat · 20/10/2026 22:46

@DDUndercover
You did the absolutely right thing
Well done you for nailing your courage to the mast; you're made of the right stuff and to be proud of completely
Those shitty other mothers tolerated it because it wasn't them and provided spectacle to observe
Im so pleased you've got your child into another school; may they thrive and meet better more decent friends as you will too so
Very Good Luck To You My Lovely XXX

IndigoBrave · 20/10/2026 22:47

You’re done a great thing. These people wish they had the morals you have. You will never regret what you’ve done for these children

Fiddlesticks357 · 20/10/2026 22:52

You absolutely did the right thing and by the sounds these are NOT friends anyway. Clicky, rough and not the type of people I'd want my own kids knocking around with or their parents. I think fronting it out is a possibility and just hope the drama doesn't affect your own kids but tbh I'd definitely seriously think about moving schools and house anyway for a fresh start away from all this drama. Even if this hadn't happened no offence but it doesn't sound like the best group of people or influences for your kids anyway. They might not want to move or understand it now, but when older they will see why you did it for their own sake.

Treehorns · 20/10/2026 22:55

OP, you are a very good person.
Don't allow those users to use you again.
Do not hesitate to call the police if anyone is threatening.
Poor children.
You did the right thing for them.
Just because an area is deprived doesn't mean the mothers are scum like this, standing by while children are abused.
You have lost users, not friends.
Be kind to yourself.

Dragononawagon · 20/10/2026 23:04

I don’t care what the reasons are you don’t think you can, I’d move.

I couldn’t hack it and nor would I want my kids around them all. All your lives will be made hell.

ThatHangryRubyReader · 20/10/2026 23:09

Honestly, you did 100% the right thing but the other mums probably feel betrayed because they all would have remembered you asking about that mum and you told their stories. You went on a fact-finding mission and used those mums. The fact that SS and police acted says things were already in the wrong. Also parole violations wouldn't be grand. Seeing as she already hates police that would have been fuel on the fire.

This too I would move asap. Id ask police for advice. Your in a very dangerous situation.

DDUndercover · 20/10/2026 21:51

Thank you everyone. I have calmed down a little now and sorted through things in my head

Everyone is right about not wanting to be around them. For a long while I wanted to move away from the group as they do not align with my own beliefs (e.g. I dont casually swear around kids etc). The issue is the whole never having a family/tribe. Being in care and moving a lot meant I never had a unit and I REALLY wanted one. Its done and that has its own relief as I was heavily supportive as taxi driver, childcare and PA to some of the Mums. So it'll be nice to have that time back, esp as im studying whilst working so time is always super tight

We cant move away atm for various reasons. I have spent ages on the internet looking at home security and have ordered a few basic bits off Amazon but need some time to get around the rest of whats needed.

It still feels a little surreal. It moved really fast. And its hard to think I have another few years with seeing them frequently. I also feel sad and used as I did a lot for the Mum group. A lot of them cant drive so I would do nearly daily lifts, would write their emails, did ones foodshop every week and loads of other bits. I didnt mind and always felt if I needed it would be reciprocated one day. Instead its not even a convo, its full blocking

GAH!!

You did the right thing, the chidlren's safety and well being need to come first, but I suspect your 'various reasons' will need to be readdressed and you should move ... or at least have your DCs move schools if possible.

HowDoYouSolveAProblemLikeMyRear · 20/10/2026 23:25

I've come across quite a few posters on MN who I think are a bit trigger-happy in going to Social Services.

Here, there's no room for doubt. You were right. The other mums in the group - well, maybe some are like the proverbial boiling frog are blinded to how bad it's got. And maybe a good number feel intimidated into joining in with shunning you, but are quietly relieved you reported her.

Is it worth asking the police if they'd be willing to visit your house and check for any weak security points?

Best of luck. You did the right thing.

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/10/2026 23:31

Is there another school that you can move your dcs too? Any in the local area, not necessarily in catchment.
You absolutely did the right thing - there should be more people like you.

Fuck all of those people. What kind of evil twats do nothing while they hear about abuse and neglect of children. Feel proud of yourself and don't fear being alone if the alternative is to be surrounded by snakes.

XenaSharples · 21/10/2026 00:14

Being brave is hard. I hope you can feel proud. You've done a wonderful thing.

Ghht · 21/10/2026 00:15

You should be proud of yourself. God knows what that man could’ve done to those kids.

Get your kids to join a sports club or something outside school and try to network from there. I know it’s easier said than done, but the school mums are a lost cause.

Also, let the police know your concerns and tell them the names of mum and boyfriend.

You are very brave. But I understand your concerns. These people are very misguided to support or turn a blind eye to this mum. You cant reason with idiots. Even though they are in the wrong though that doesnt mean they wont retaliate. People who behave badly tend to double down just so that they dont have to face up ro their own shit behaviour. Ao....evwn though you shouldnt have to, maybe you could consider somply moving away ans getting a fresh achool. Having a fresh start..I doubt things woll get better where you are and you dont know how vindictive these people are. I'd leave.
