At wits end with husbands thoughtlessness

Just really here for a want. We have 2 young children and we both work full time, I work from home though so am at home more and do most of school runs etc.
husband works in office every day, the reason I’m at my wits end is because he will stop at tesco on way home from work maybe once or twice a week and get himself a few bits, maybe even get me a little treat (which of course is nice) but won’t think to text and ask if we need anything or even use his own brain to think what we might need. Children still in nappies so things like nappies, baby wipes etc are things we go through a lot.
when I speak to him about it he says I should just let him know or I should ask is he going but that’s just one more thing to add to my to do list

Text him each morning so that he can pick your shopping items up on his way home later in the day. Make sure you do it early though.

You are the one at home all day, so just text him a list of what is needed for when he goes. Why does he have to text you to ask you to send him a list when you know he is going every other day during the week?

Literally this. I work ft but from home 3 days a week DH works on site all week, he stops at the shop most days and I just send him a text before he leaves to tell him what to get, if he hadn’t planned on stopping he will once I send him the list

And OP's husband won't. That is the whole point that people keep ignoring.

Do you not have a running list for things you need? I have a pad in the kitchen and everytime I think of something I jot it down. It would be simple enough for Husband to take it with him, any extras you can text.

He doesn’t want to though. He literally won’t go to the shops for the family. If she texted him something the family needed, he would find he could do without his beer that day so come home without the family things too as ‘I didn’t go to the shops today’

Then OP needs a good hard think.

Why don’t you message when you have run out of stuff and just say if he is passing Tescos can he pick something up?

Spot on. Just totally selfish. He's looking after himself and not thinking about anyone else.
He doesn't want to pick up stuff and be involved with that side of family life. In his mind it will be tidily compartmentalised as 'her' job.
