Partner going away with attractive 22 year old girl. Is it a bit weird or am I just being jealous/insecure.

Just that really! For context he’s 43, and self employed so it’s a work trip that he’s organised himself. It’s long haul and they will be away for a few weeks. She works for him at his house everyday mon-Fri, they are set up in his dining room. Desks next to eachother. We don’t live together.

The whole thing is making me feel a bit weird but I’m not sure why! I know if I try to talk to him about it it will just go round in circles and will just result in me feeling like a terrible person/jealous insecure girlfriend. He sees the trip as essential to the business, I don’t want to be accused of being unsupportive as I do support him massively.

just wondered how others would potentially feel about this situation? Am I being an absolute areshole girlfriend?

@pinkishtongueI've actually realised (thanks to this thread) that he’s gaslit me into thinking he’s bloody fantastic and wonderful and that I’m lucky to be with him.

Sometimes you just need an outside perspective to open your eyes

Not being funny, but would an attractive 22 year old woman really be interested in a man twice her age?

He can act the Successful Businessman with her. It could be very flattering to have a Successful Older Man interested in her and telling her how much Potential He Sees In Her. Especially if he takes care of his appearence, looks smart and is still moderately good looking. He might hint at how much more she deserves from a partner than some unsophisticated unambitious young man. She might not realise straight away that she's being played for a fool.

Why is it necessary for her to go? It’s a bit weird that a 40-something-year-old man would want to take a 22-year-old female colleague away on his own. My partner works for himself and I know for sure he wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that. It would be completely different if there were other colleagues going. If she’s someone he’d just helping out because she can’t find other work and is paying very little, I really doubt it’s remotely essential for her to go on the trip.

Agree. Unless he wants her to feel even more obliged and grateful to him than she already does. And be away from her usual support network. This whole situation is giving me the ick from a distance and I'm worried for this 22 year old I've never met.

This is what narcissists do... don't be so hard on yourself.....they are master manipulators 💐

He doesn’t, he’s really scruffy! Nearly always needs a haircut, has stubble (not designer) and is short and overweight. This is part of it as well I think. I always make an effort to look nice. Which he kind of expects.

she might be attracted to the authority aspect of him though, who knows. It won’t be my problem soon.

Exactly. I was very attracted to a 40 odd year old guy at work when I was in my 20s. I was shocked with myself that I would find someone so "old" attractive. Now I'm in my 50s and realise that 40 odd yr olds are still pretty young!...and like you say if they're handsome/keep themselves in good shape/groomed them yes it's entirely possible.

cheeseandhamtoastie42 · 20/09/2026 09:14

@EvieBBhes not in good shape. He’s overweight, drinks and vapes everyday. He’s also pretty scruffy. Rarely gets a hair cut always has 5 day stubble.

He also wears skinny jeans.

You could have saved any speculation if you’d told us about the skinny jeans in the OP. Immediate LTB

Is he a secret agent working for MI5 or something like that? It might explain the absences and the money...

God, I hope the agents keeping our country safe are better than he sounds, or we're all f*cked. His 'cover' story stinks and wouldn't stand up to the lightest scrutiny (as posters on here have got right onto).

Mate!! Skinny jeans is an immediate sackable offence. What were you thinking?

@pinkishtongueI've actually realised (thanks to this thread) that he’s gaslit me into thinking he’s bloody fantastic and wonderful and that I’m lucky to be with him.

These techniques work because they’re supported by cultural narratives that say women’s value is in being “chosen” by a man.

It doesn’t sound like you have much to leave — no friends or family or home or income or childcare to lose — so hopefully your world can expand beyond this man’s lies and holiday plans.

Well I guess that’s possible, although personally when I was that age I couldn’t have imagined myself being remotely interested in someone the same age as my dad, that seemed positively ancient! 😁
