The Rules:
-The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating
-Develop a thick skin
-Do not invest emotionally too soon
-It’s all BS until it actually happens
-Trust your gut instinct
-People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault
-Know your worth
-If it's not fun, stop
-Loo update is mandatory
-No dating the thread
-Treat others as you'd like to be treated
-Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with
-The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future
If you're wondering if you're being too picky/should give another chance after the second chance/should try harder - the answer is invariably NO! You're not and you shouldn't. If this, now, is as good as it's going to get, the A game, then do you want what comes next?!
-OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item*

Mr Tennis sounds decent and points for demonstrating keenness! I'm in the same situation with Mr Unphotogenic, who turned out to be much better-looking than his worst photograph😂is fit, has an interesting job, good relationship with his ex-wife and shares custody of his kids. We also have several activities in common.

Unfortunately as usual I don't think I'm going to fancy him. We are going on a second date though so hoping we can cultivate a spark...

I definitely fancied Mr Cricket more on second date than first. Tho I am still not at shagging point.....

Nosdacariad · 14/09/2026 21:41

Is part of the lack of attraction the niceness?

It's not all of it, Mr Tennis is very thin and has a quite high pitched voice which doesn't do it for me.

Voices are SO key to attraction for me. FWB's voice is pure sex. It's like the sound a wolf might make at the back of its throat. Just hearing him makes me want to rip his clothes off......

Does anyone ever read other threads on MN from someone with a dating dilemma and think “oh honey, get over to our thread”? I’ve recommended in the past but they’ve never taken me up on it x

Yes! Have recommended it a few times.

People are horribly judgy on some threads.

Ilovelurchers · 15/09/2026 20:04

Nosdacariad · 15/09/2026 12:15

Yes very recently. And someone posted "on the dating threads they always say x" and I commented that I didn't think we ever did x.

What were we supposed to always say? I think we are very varied! X

Ilovelurchers · 15/09/2026 20:17

Nosdacariad · 15/09/2026 17:02

I think there should be another rule

If they say "no drama" they bring the drama and

If they call exes narcissists, they are the narcissists.

Both of these things could not be more true! X

Ilovelurchers · 15/09/2026 20:23

MsJinks · 15/09/2026 17:55

Stumpy avoided these flags too - very nice about his exes and never heard or saw ‘no drama’ - sigh they still find a different low!

Are these going on the rules? We’ll need several posts soon to cover them lol @Nosdacariad

It sometimes feels like 50% of single guys hate their exes and think they are all narcissists, and the other 50% are shagging theirs, or otherwise in unhealthy relationships with them!

Now, I admit that I am FWBs with one of mine and have conflicted feelings over another one..... But in my case that will at lesst stop when I become exclusive with someone (because if I'm not keen to stop, then the guy clearly isn't exclusive relationship material to me).

I feel like a lot of guys think that nothing has to change really, even when they become exclusive. Perhaps if you are lucky, they stop actually shagging the exes - but they still think it's OK to meet them for drinks, confide in them about intimate stuff, holiday with them etc.

(And I know it's not all men. Just feels like a lot of them sometimes).

Ilovelurchers · 15/09/2026 20:27

That's me caught up I think. Just wanted to add:

@MsJinksyou are doing phenomenally well, carrying on as normal, not sending batshit messages. It's impossible to imagine the craziness I would have unleashed by now, were I in your situation. It would have helped nothing. But that's never stopped me before.

@CleanShirtso glad he showed remorse, and that you guys are back on track. You've been assertive about your needs and that's brilliant.

@Nosdacariadpleased to hear Mr Tennis sounds sensible of the prize you are, and is pursuing you keenly. It's no less than you deserve!

Probably best to have a bit slower burn - in my very recent experience ha - plus 2 forever ago.

Glad it picked up - fingers crossed Mr Cricket can swipe it over boundary and get a 6 from you at some point!

Well I’m still cringing at former me doing this - and worse - that I couldn’t bring myself to add yet more lol!

I did this whole thing different to before and I may as well continue that to bitter end!

Different shit - same outcome lol

They probably only hate them as they stopped shag access - if we all helped the poor exes out then we may all be ‘good friends’ with them!

Not sure if you’d get replaced by newest ex or just become part of an ever growing harem and just get a turn less and less often? Of course you may be collecting further exes too so they’re filling up the blank spaces …

That was exactly crashing. He was just planning to carry on like he was single and so long as he didn't actually shag them it was all good.

If you put out you get to do exactly that - join the harem as a "meaningful friend".

Absolutely agree with this! I was messaging a guy a couple of months ago (I hadnt got as far as naming him as an iron) and he said he values his peace and if anyone disturbs it then he’ll bin them and “that includes you”. I smacked that block button so hard 😂

Honestly, some of the drivel that these guys spill. They’re either totally oblivious to how thick they come across (or sausage meat as Jinx said…love it!!). Or they’re testing boundaries. I wasn’t going to let him get away with that…..he bugged my happiness when he said that, so he was discarded.

AlwaysCarrieSATC · 14/09/2026 19:04

He was quick to unmatch you! Are you okay about it?

I have one questionable one on the go 😂

I also had the strangest match ever today, started enthusiastically asked for a call this evening then said it would never work because I won’t change my childcare schedule and we live a bit far apart. But I’m relieved because I wasn’t feeling it during the call and wanted to hang up 😂

Guys are so weird

They are 100pc weird!

Yes there’s loads on pig that say no drama. It’s my first thought your the drama llama.

mr sweet is very very sweet. We had an hour phone call. He really likes me. And it’s too soon for me. I swore and I felt bad cos he seems like an innocent. Red flags he looks after his parents every day so he doesn’t have much availability. I like ad hoc meet ups. Plus he’s an hour away. But I read his messages in his accent and he makes me smile.

the annoying one who didn’t understand feminist principles disappeared for two days and is now back. But he’s off my list.
