The Rules:
-The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating
-Develop a thick skin
-Do not invest emotionally too soon
-It’s all BS until it actually happens
-Trust your gut instinct
-People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault
-Know your worth
-If it's not fun, stop
-Loo update is mandatory
-No dating the thread
-Treat others as you'd like to be treated
-Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with
-The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future
If you're wondering if you're being too picky/should give another chance after the second chance/should try harder - the answer is invariably NO! You're not and you shouldn't. If this, now, is as good as it's going to get, the A game, then do you want what comes next?!
-OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item*

I think I'm going to have to postpone dinner with Mr Tennis tomorrow night due to my lurgy.

Nice work @BoxOfCats . Did Charismatic show up for your birthday?

briefly, I’m single again after 6 months with the lovely Mr K. The death of his friend has really knocked him into a depression that he can’t/wont pull himself out of and he called time on us. I’m gutted and not interested in looking at the moment.

ThreeMogsAndCounting · 24/09/2026 18:19

I keep vaccilating whether to go back on the apps or not. I know how addictive the swiping can be and I'm also not entirely over my last relationship, despite it ending a year ago. How do you decide when the time is right?

Never mind which app to try if i do bite the bullet.

There's certain elements which are really important to me, but if I go on an app dedicated to those you're much less likely to find an actual relationship. Assumptions are made which are not true.

Summertime2012 · 24/09/2026 18:45

Just to update on my situation. I didn't text him today as I saw on his bumble profile that he is actually abroad, in the country of origin of his mum. I would like to hope that this is what he meant by admin issues he needed to resolve. I will try to take my mind off him for at least a couple of days, if possible!

Oh shit. That's a shame - so sorry to hear you still aren't well.

I actually took the day off today I feel so rough!

Still (small plus side) - how he handles the postponement will tell you a lot about whether or not he is a decent fella.....

How are you feeling? And do you have real life support? Xxx

Oh no! That’s such a shame. But sounds like he just wasn’t in the right place for it. Very sad for you, the loss of something that felt promising can hit hard.

Mr C messaged me on my birthday to wish me a lovely day (it was a Monday) and we went out for dinner and a film the next evening. He offered to pay as it was my birthday, but he’d paid the last time we were out so I insisted on paying (I don’t help myself in these situations really).

To be fair, his birthday was the end of June and I didn’t do too much more than that for him given I knew he was still dating other people at the time. So I guess he returned the same energy - I don’t know if I should have expected any more than that? We’ve been dating since February but not exclusively.

I think Mr C's birthday plans with you sound in keeping with the type of relationship that's developed between you. Sounds great to me (apart from the part when you wouldn't let him pay!)

He does seem to really like you though and apart from lacking the security and stability that a more committed setup offers (which do matter) it does seem like an ok setup. But if you do want more, be careful you don't get too deep in. Because I know myself that there are consequences to building attachment to someone with no security.

comingintomyown · 23/09/2026 11:31

@Nosdacariad thank you

Well he just messaged and he’s still bad so I will leave him alone for now. Being off work is giving me a lot of time to think. I’d hoped to understand more about how he sees us after our break last week but we didn’t have any relationship convos. By the time I next see him it’ll be 8 months together and I’m going to start asking some direct questions. The thing with that isn’t that I’m worried about not being cool or that I feel I have to pretend I don’t care but that I don’t know if I’ll like the answers to my questions

Ahh I remember the 8 month questioning from the lad I was seeing. Where are we going? What is this ? Etc.
I think young ones have a brief chat about whether they’re official/ bf/ gf. Seems much more sensible.

Just found the dating thread!
Hope its okay to join!
Ended a shit situation last week, by chance met someone in the wild! He's lovely & very handsome.
Went for a date today, just coffee, spent the whole time laughing! Wants to take it slow and get to know each other, also looking for a long term relationship.

Love this - I need a lawnmower also as I used to use the one my FWB has and that’s all done now. Maybe this weekend will be one for lawnmower-buying dating?!

We can all report back on lawnmower shopping.

I do like someone that’s handy. I’m going to hang out in B& Q with my hair straightened rather than disheveled as it usually is.
bow is it better to be clueless or competent?
B&Q are missing a trick with this. I’m sure they could set up simple pop up diy classes.

Browniesandcustard · 25/09/2026 05:43

@Reginablitzing I’m loving the idea of the diy classes! You should suggest it to them 🤣

MsJinks · 25/09/2026 07:01

I went to B&Q just Tuesday to get some boxes - I’d been sorting heavy stuff at my house and in storage - I couldn’t have looked worse if I’d tried! I didn’t catch a guy lol! Way to go @Muddlethroughmam
So sorry so many have the dreaded lurgy - hope you’re all very much better and B&Q ready soon!
@coolpattern - sorry about Mr K 💐- 6 months of good is hard to leave - you’ll know when you’re ready to look or date though unless it’s a thought to get over him - which is valid and can work. Be kind to yourself.
@Ilovelurchers- Mr Cricket sounds like he’s ready for next stage, and you do too now! Think it may consolidate stuff for you - hopefully a great day either way.
@Nosdacariad- I expect Mr Tennis was ok with postponing as he sounds a decent one - are you sorry to have to or just meh? Just wondering where you’re at with him.
@BoxOfCats- how’s it going overall with Mr C? It’s so hard he’s a perfect date yet not relationship 💐I’d stay there till hell froze over I know ha in hope! but it definitely makes it hard to move on at all - what are you thinking? Be kind to yourself and do nice things for you.

I’ve missed loads of folk and irons here I know! Been sorting some stuff and emptying storage from late parents’ estate. Mr TS helped which was good. So we had the best time Saturday night and then this help and all good - but still what I term Mystery Tuesday and some other stuff - idk what’s occurring tbh - it’s not something I can keep just questioning but I do have to decide if I can live with this - less and less likely some days and more so others ha - so stupid I know.
Take care all and hope all get better and any dates are amazing!

ThreeMogsAndCounting · 25/09/2026 08:47

I am very intrigued by this man in the wild story. There is hope for us all, apparently!

I needed to go to B&Q anyway this weekend. Wonder if it's better or worse to take my 11 yr old with me? On the one hand it might put off any potential wild men, on the other she's an excellent wing man, because she knows my taste in men and would probably have no issues asking someone if they were single 😆

The joys of autism.

So who's got dates this weekend? What are you up to?

I'm going with your normal level of competence, ask advice. Wear a band tee or sports team top if you're a fan 😁

Easy opener.

This is killing me because my friend Phil says

"You shouldn't look at girls because the next thing you know you'll be in homebase buying a lawnmower"

Happily married at least 100 years 😁
