If you open the book one way round you start by reading Brenda's story. If you flip the book over and start from the other side you are reading Jack's story first.

The first decision for the reader is to decide who's viewpoint the want to begin with (or close your eyes, flip the book around a few times and leave it chance). It's not a high drama book but the premise is fascinating. And it beautifully written.

I also think OP should develop her own FLA (four letter acronym)...

Maybe STAR (for self-reliance; trustworthy; aware; resilient)

Or one that she can use in conversation to remind herself of her own worth: "oh DEAR" (dependable; emotionally aware; authentic; resilient)

For sheer escapism OP there is a lovely series of books called The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley. Seven girls are adoped from all round the world by a very rich man. None of them know anything about their origins and when he dies he leaves each one clues as to their story and who they are. Each sister gets one book in the series. I haven't read them all yet, but the first one is a really lovely mystery tale, a good read. Have a good break.

After my divorce my DF continued to stay in touch with my ExH, playing golf regularly, going for drinks etc. I was very hurt and couldn’t understand it. I’d told my DM all the details so it felt very disloyal of my DF. Then years later, after my DM had died, my life was sorted, and I was having a proper chat to my DF he suddenly asks why I left my ExH. Turned out DM had never passed on the details and reasons. Dad was horrified and immediately cut all contact, after giving him a piece of his mind. My ExH was mortified and there was an added bonus that his support for my DCs at uni stopped being a big issue.

OP, I wonder how Twattoo would react if he got some home truths from your DF…?

The only one I’ve really loved was Verity. You can read it before it comes out at the cinema in a few months then you can plan dinner and a film with a friend and have something to look forward to.

Hmm... not really. Overly simplistic. Not horrible but ultimately annoying.

Also maybe a bit close to the bone… some abusive characters in there.

I feel like you need total escapism… something with a vampire or a dragon!

Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover sounded interesting but I’ve actually ended up ordering the Matthew Perry autobiography! I’ve wanted to read it for so long, I loved him.

If you like autobiographies I would recommend Andrew Ridgeleys book about him and George. Its really good.

A new book is always exciting, so pleased you are finding time to read. Your night away will be lovely and hopefully very relaxing.

I absolutely love reading but it fell by the wayside over the last 7 or 8 years. I do love an autobiography but unsure of who else’s I'd be interested in reading.

If you like Gilmore Girls, Kelly Bishops and Lauren Graham are excellent reads and Julie Walters is another I recommend.

Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French's are good. Both tell the same tale of their career but from two different perspectives and in vastly different styles. Worth reading in tandem!

I’d have loved to have gone on the Friday and stayed till the Sunday, but I have a 2 day training course on Thursday and Friday and it won’t finish till 5:30 or thereabouts. I don’t fancy another hour drive after that as it’s more of a physical training course.

Could you ask the hotel for a late check out to take the morning pressure off?

I’ve paid for the later check out so that’s a little extra bonus 😊

It will be lovely for you to be able to completely switch off and relax.

@mummy917 do you know which tattoo artist he uses? Maybe you could bribe them to do a rubbish job, or just incorporate some extra special details just for you 😂. Maybe we could start a collection to help you out and also give suggestions for things to incorporate. I suggest getting a mattress or two in there somehow 😉
