May everything you desire which is good stay good and favoured in them.

The best thing about this upcoming weekend is that the noise and demands of a birthday sleepover will still be less than day-to-day life with DH’s feral children.

nolongersurprised · 18/04/2026 01:56

Sorry, ex-DP’s, not DH

All going brilliantly, bday party is underway and to the PP who pointed it out, taking nine boys to laser tag still less chaos than previous living sitch. 🤣🫠 Happy weekend all x

SpainToday · 18/04/2026 15:01

OP, I’m just dropping in to say hi!

He just had too many children, I’m so pleased you’re out of it.

And enjoy your Persian rug (or is it a Persian cat??) 😀

Imtornanddontknowwhattodo · 18/04/2026 20:27

Not totally chaos free as we are now in the throes of his first ever sleep over w school friends….! It’s going so well and I feel horrendous that this is the first time he has got to do this. They’re just all so adorable and happy and full of joy. Played two different board games, very wholesome, and now I’m letting them “wind down” with Minecraft and party rings. Pray for a peaceful bedtime, lol x

We bought a ping pong table and it got so much use.
It was in my glorious garden room and I sucked it up for years.
The kids have great memories.
A dart/rings board would take up much less space!
We all play a lot of tennis as do their friends, so it was very competitive.
Hand eye coordination is a great thing to develop.
We gifted it to a thrilled neighbour after 10 years, i was thrilled to have my space back despite the great memories.
So delighted to read your positive updates.

They've been running around all day. Once lights are out, they'll all be knocked out within 30 min, is my experience :)

Sleepovers are so lovely to witness.

Don't feel bad. The previous setup wasn't terrible. This setup is just better.

He's still a young 'un, there are plenty more sleepover opportunities to come. When they are teens rampaging around, still behaving like they are excitable young boys and not understanding how strong, tall and clumsy they are, you may get a shock! I recommend garden camping!

I agree with @LouiseMadetheBestBroccoliPasta .

Can i qualify it a little bit more....

Don't feel bad. The previous setup wasn't terrible, initially. And when it became terrible, you made swift changes. This setup is just better... waaaaay better. And you both deserve it.

Ping pong table would be a big hit, he LOVES ping pong, not sure how much space it needs but he would love it in his den…. Dart board great idea too. ❤️

I did birthday sleepovers for both my boys' birthdays. I think 'controlled chaos' would be the term I'd use for them. Very little sleep was had by anyone in the house. Now that they're grown and gone I'm so glad I have those memories!

Concentrate on the memories you're building today and to come. Soon the past 'difficult' memories will fade but those memories you're making now will always shine.

Once you're good at ping pong you want a bit of space around the table but until that time a metre behind each end is fine! Growing up we had a compact table in the cellar...

DaisyDooley · 19/04/2026 09:05

I’m a big fan of buying things you want that make memories.
Ive got a massive craft table (foldaway) that is covered in paint, glue, glitter all sort of shite that we have used for 8 yrs.
It has been invaluable and it comes out every November as my ‘wrapping table’ to wrap Xmas gifts on. I put out the paper, ribbons, sellotape, scissors, pen, labels, bows -everything I need. I sometimes look at or touch a bit of paint and remember what we were making……..
Anyway. Thought you might like this.
Im so so pleased for you and son. You hve been a wonderful strong woman .
