Are they hiding? I can’t find one. OLD is dire and not for me. What can I do?

Sorry but as a 60 year old woman I think this is entitled nonsense.

I can categorically state I’ve never spent anything close to £150 to go on a date. I have got my hair nails etc done for decades and I very really date anymore. I don’t buy outfits to impress anyone, I wear the clothes I love wearing and quite frankly I couldn’t care less if a random bloke likes my style or not.

Ive been single 6 years and not turned into a ‘grey haired old lady’ and I can say the same for all of my mates single or in a relationship we all scrub up because we enjoy it not for anyone else’s approval .

You may want a man who judges your appearance while you judge his wallet and that’s your prerogative but don’t dress it up as ‘women wouldn’t bother if we weren’t trying to get a man’ because that’s quite frankly nonsense. Just own the fact you’re after a free lunch and don’t claim it’s a woman thing rather than a you thing

But with respect, you’re not spending 60 quid of that on a Babysitter at your age are you? Whereas I was at the time.
As I said, each to their own.

PartQualifiedAcca · 11/04/2026 15:57

It is absolutely incomprehensible.

And yet he expressed a desire to French kiss me
Strange

Why the need to add 'French' to the kiss?

The whole thread is about dating men in their 50’s and in your posts you refer to women in their 50’s and grey haired old ladies and so needing a babysitter isn’t really relevant to the subject matter is it?

Actually, I think that’s a particularly important point because it’s sticking something in me isn’t it? Most importantly, though his words not mine.
As opposed to the peck on the cheek that he was offered

Some of us still have primary school children in our 50s not so much in our 60s although I’m sure that will be happening in the future

JohnTheRevelator · 11/04/2026 16:34

All the nice 50 something single men are usually only interested in women in their 20s or 30s. So if you are a 50 something female, then you don't get a look in. I don't know what it is with men when they reach middle age,but suddenly they are not interested in women in their own age group.

Its just just seems a weirdly superfluous detail and a bit teenagerish to be detailing it as 'French'.

"Omg, I just French kissed Paul Watson behind the bike sheds"

"No waaaaaaay"

Solenoidal · 11/04/2026 16:46

My friend is 52 and seems to be having quite a lot of luck with OLD since her divorce last year? She is a professional woman working fulltime and is vivacious and gorgeous (mix of genetics and subtle botox!) and attracts lots of similar-aged men. She is able to pick and choose and they seem very keen. Maybe more choice in London?

I hope I stay married as I don’t think I would have as much success!

Those were my thoughts exactly when a 50-year-old man messaged it to me

Why are you so invested in the words she has used?

Not really 'invested' as such, more a case of just being curious as it was an odd detail for an adult to be using.

In my social networks of 20/30 year olds, largely women, i’ve never met anyone who has dated/married anyone in their 50s.
They are all partnered / dating people who are around the same age as statistically most people do.

Running club or parkrun? . There's a few 50+ men at my running club.
Not saying they're all going to be nice but generally seem capable of empathy and support for newbies and strugglers.
And they're outdoors enjoying a hobby, making friends and keeping fit and cheerful
Rather than all over the sex topics or arguing with women on MN..

Watch out, my vile ex has taken up park run at 53 - he's a serial cheat and manipulative with it. Awful man, but comes across as charming and funny and I can imagine he picks up plenty of interest from fellow runners.

ETA he only likes women 20 years younger too!

I had a couple of dates recently with same person. First date I bought all the drinks, fair enough. Second date we had drinks which I paid for again, then dinner. I knew the game was up when she ordered a double whiskey with her meal 😂. I paid for dinner and drinks then she suggested we go to another place for coffee and desert. Guess who paid 😂? After that she invited me for a third date to her home town which I politely declined!

You’re entitled to your opinion but the Babysitter, the Hairdressers, the nails, yada yada yada are not on me, women just wouldn’t bother would we if we weren’t going on dates.
And indeed once most of us stop bothering about the opinions of men we don’t bother.
And then apparently we turn into grey haired old ladies that they don’t want to date.
If it wasn’t for societal expectations, we’d be richer.
If you’re struggling to understand the 30% pay gap, we’re gonna need a bigger thread
Or of course you could just google it 🤷‍♀️ there’s lots of papers that have been written on it. It’s all out there.

and let’s keep in mind here we are talking about a 5 pound coffee, £150 outlay for a 5 pound coffee.
That’s the deal and they could take it or fucking leave it. My world will keep spinning without.

Lots of women (not all ) are like this and then seem to wonder why men don’t want to pursue them any further 🤷🏻

I definitely wouldn’t do that. I’d always pay half or would pay next time. I earn a good salary but I’d probably be happier with a flask of tea and a cake from Greggs up a mountain or something 😂.

Some women will just use men like that.

Tbh I’ve taken myself off the market but when I did OLD I’d try to get the first one in, so that if it was going really badly, I could make a quick getaway and not feel that I owed anything.

As a woman I find that shocking. I’ve never been in a date in my life and expected a man to pay. Tbh most men refuse to split on first date but then I’ll always say let’s go for a drink afterwards and I will insist on buying them a drink.

And I would never let a man pay for 2/3/4 dates - I would say it’s my turn to take him out and pay

So it’s only male sexual conduct that can leave people pregnant?

Most violence by men is perpetrated on men but let’s not let statistics get in the way.

Returning back to my point, [for which you appear to have brought a sledgehammer to crack a nut with], I’ve killed no-one - why would me dating a younger woman be frowned upon when otherwise encouraged for a female were ages reversed? Why would I be deemed a pervert but my female peer heralded for being somehow liberated?

I’m sorry but I’m so fed up of seeing every day men being demonised and whitewashed because of the acts of a minority and that being used as an excuse for female unwillingness to be held accountable :)

It doesn't take long to realise why these self identified "nice guys" are still single, does it?

Women can smell misogyny a mile off.
