Lied about his height

I went on a date last night (met online). In his profile he said he was 6ft (I have nothing set for height restrictions) but when he turned up I knew he was not 6ft. My ex-husband, family members and male friends are 6ft. I know what 6ft looks like. I’d put him at 5ft 10” on a good day. I asked him about it and he said, “I’m 5ft 11” seemed silly to worry about an inch.” I don’t care how tall he is, but I am worried that this is an indication that he will lie about other things too? I don't date the men who put in their profile “Not really 55, 65” as though my chosen age filters are not important. Is this the same?

Anyone dated someone who lied about this online, and they turned out to be an honest, okay guy?

I have no idea what exact height I am (short) or my DH (tall)

I wouldn't bother seeing him again.

OP decided that one pages back!

It isn’t a red flag, it’s because so many superficial women out there demand a man over 6 foot as if this is an immediately attractive attribute. Honestly never ever understood it. I’ve dated men ranging from 5 foot 6 (so shorter than me!) through to 6 foot 3. Never really even considered it to be a thing.

I wouldn’t, because I'm not a liar. Wouldn’t you feel worse pretending you were skinner than you were, and then having to turn up looking fatter than expected? I’d rather it the other way round. How embarrassing

This! Why lie?

as OP said it would have marred my enjoyment of the date. Plenty more fish in the sea.

JosephineBoneApart · 01/12/2025 15:53

Why is this still going?

OP said 2 or 3 weeks back she'd binned him.

It’s not about the height its the lying - ok I agree it was maybe a small deception, but even so.

Im 5ft 9 and would instantly tell 5ft 10 from 6ft and my only criteria is that they are at least my height.

If he was otherwise ok I would give him another chance - go with your instincts -you are entitled to be fussy though IMO.

However, if you had put on your profile that you were a size 10 and turned up a 14 I’m not sure some guys would be as generous.
