Yes, worked with gay man in his 40s. Tall and super fit. Was very excited that I was going to meet his boyfriend who was an overweight very elderly man.
I just really expected him to be with an equally fit man.

Often. It’s usually to do with money (male providers, it’s a thing), or the less physically attractive woman (or man!) being great in bed (to put it as politely as possible).

There was a mum I used to see around the baby groups. She was quite posh, with a posh face, pearls, florals etc. assumed her husband would be chinos, deckshoes and shirt sleeves and as clean cut as her.

Then I saw her at the playground with her husband who was a full metaller, sleeve tattoos, long hair, all in black etc.

I had the same feelings with a straight couple, the man was tall, handsome, floppy hair. Me and my bf met his wife and she was skinny, but not beautiful - she looked old for her age, reminded us of the Post Office scandal woman.

I used to know a lady who was rather “actressy”, quite posh with a blonde bob, beautifully applied makeup. The first H (very posh and unusual name) I’ve ever met. The sort of person you’d expect to be married to a fabulously handsome man.

Her husband was the most peculiar person. Incredibly effeminate in his mannerisms, just very odd looking. You wouldn’t have put them together AT ALL.

Men are very simple creatures motivated by sex. She might be amazing at stuff.. (👀) . She might be willing to do things others aren’t. Who knows.

I know it’s sexist, but it is more surprising when the woman is the unattractive one. I know a woman who looks quite like the Post Office scandal woman (Paula Vennells), and her DH is a handsome man! My bf and me were both surprised when we met her. Although we also felt nasty for commenting on it privately!

Entirely possible, she seems quite nerdy and like a bossy wife, but who knows what her bedroom persona is? 😅

@PangolinPan Haha “shooketh”. Was she actually posh though or just elegantly dressed? You can look expensive if you dress elegantly and simplistically. And you can also get scruffy posh people who just don’t care how they dress, a bit like Hugh Fenley Whittenstall type people.

Turns out she was an actress so had that 'non accent' some actors develop. We're in the west country so it sounded posh.
She was dressed like him when I saw them so who knows?!

I'm surprised when you've got a partner who hasn't got much going with for them and the partner's absolutely stunning and has an amazing job.

And vice versa, when you've got someone who's very good looking. Good job, good, everything and their partner looks like the back end of a bus. And a pretty crap job im surprised as well.

Ouch. My husband is much, much more attractive than me, very fit and sporty and naturally handsome and charming. People are always surprised, and sometimes unpleasantly open about their confusion as to how I managed to snag him (and sometimes I detect a sub-current of pity for him that he's stuck with me).
This thread has made me feel really sad.
