Thinking trying OLD… what do I need to know?

Out of a several decade long marriage for a couple of years and feel like it’s time for me to dip my toe in the water of dating again.

I’ve been mulling over OLD but the horror stories are putting me off a little bit.

So, what do I need to know? I haven’t been on a date since I was 19! All help gratefully received! Safety tips? Dating etiquette? Red flags to look out for, even better green flags to look out for. I’m working on a thicker skin as we speak!

Feel free to talk me down if you think it’s a terrible idea, or egg me on if you think it’s a great idea.

I’m finding the lack of a partner and companionship quite hard at the moment. I’m sure it will pass, but I don’t feel great about it.

Update all. I had a first date with a really lovely guy. He seems like a walking green flag at the moment. Genuinely had a great time together. Second date on the way. 😀. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, there is a long way to go yet.

So I had a first date on Sunday with a guy , seems really nice & we also had a lovely time , second date this Saturday so 🤞.
I’m like you , don’t want to be getting my hopes up , but we did get on very well , so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well it would be nice , at 49 now , would rather meet someone nice now sooner rather than later , besides having to be going on countless dates with all the wrong guys ..

My second date was even better than the first one. I’m trying to keep my head, but he’s lovely!

Go into it with 0 expectations and if you click with someone you like, wonderful. If not you have hopefully had a few nice chats. If you feel like a break, do that. You can always pick back up again when it feels right.

Oh hey , sorry I know this original thread was about old , then OP sent an update last week to say she’d met someone nice , & then I updated also , I actually met my date in real life last year , we met through work, he asked me out then , I said no ,simply because if it doesn’t work out you have to keep seeing them ..
He has moved on through work & I messaged him few weeks back to say hi , & now we’ve been out on 2 dates 😊

Sounds grim OP. Go to the pub to find a fella, good old fashioned way. Or work. Or the gym. Or friends of friends.

Don’t you think we do all of that as well? Over a certain age it’s a needle in a haystack regardless of how active your social life is.

Final update on this thread. The lovely guy I had a first date with is now official. We’ve seen each other a few times per week for the last few weeks and get on like a house on fire. It’s early days of course, but this feels like it could be for the long term. Despite my reservations it looks like OLD might have worked for me!

I went on 4 dates , hotel date 2nd last date , had such a nice weekend, & then weekend after went for dinner , it was the Sunday , I had work following morning & so did he , he lives around 2.5 hours from me so staying overnight wasn’t an option , & anyhow I have a 15 year old & 18 year old daughter at home that he hasn’t met so obviously he wouldn’t be staying at mine ..
Following weekend he was to come to my house ( the girls wouldn’t be there ) & stay sat night but then I discovered I had to work the following day , Sunday , & basically he sent me a message when I said I had to work & finished things !!!
I was literally gobsmacked , said how Sundays date felt different & basically dumped me by text , eventhough everything was perfect until I said I had to work & couldn’t get out of it ..
I literally give up !
