Went on a nice date today that ended a bit awkwardly and now I'm really sad!

Full disclosure, I have not great mental health, including diagnosed severe anxiety and depression. I also get horribly emotional before my period, which is due in a few days.

Anyway.

I matched with someone online, chatted on the phone, agreed to meet up. I've only had a few online dates, which were generally mutually excruciating and we had absolutely nothing to say to each other, so I was quite pleasantly surprised when he a.) showed up on time b.) was actually gorgeous and c.) was really nice. We had a great chat, seemed to get on really well, and agreed to go from a cafe to a local park and then a museum. Unfortunately, my feet were killing me and I had to sit down and rest and I think he interpreted that as me having had enough, so walked me to my bus stop, waited with me and then said "I'll see you sometime", which I interpreted as I am probably never going to see you again. And got on the bus feeling really deflated. And I haven't heard from him since then. And I'm so sad. I have no idea why I'm so sad. I just feel like I can't cope. I don't want to be desperate and message. I feel so stupid and upset and confused.

HI OP

Fellow OCD sufferer here and I think you might be fixating on him in an OCD way

I would really suggest distracting yourself with something else today - this is just a one date guy, you are making it into far more (no judgement, I can do this too)

Well everyone, my inclination is to mope around and feel horrible about this forever - but I know that isn't healthy. I've given myself a few days to "feel my feelings" (ugh) and I'm going to try and get back out there. I do really want to have a relationship and it'll be trial and error until I meet the right guy.

Try to remember you don’t really know this guy. In fact, after one date, you barely know him at all. I think you are channeling all your hopes of meeting someone onto one person - and are idealising him and fixating slightly. Take a step back and try to distract yourself.

You’re far more likely to meet someone if you don’t approach dates with such intense expectations. It’s something that people will pick up on and might put them off.

Good luck! I really hope you meet someone nice soon.

I think giving yourself 3 days to process this is fine.

Don't be so hard on yourself, it's so easy to overthink these situations and convince yourself it's doomed then it happens for whatever reason and you prove yourself right.

It was really brave of you to go on the date when you weren't feeling 100% confident so have a break and go again if you feel ready.

Dating is honestly horrible most of the time but it's really a numbers game so don't take it personally if it doesn't go anywhere - good luck 😊

It's OK to give yourself time to process.

Darling you’re not ready to date.

Darling you’re not ready to date.

I do agree with @TheseCalmSeas

@anonymous98 please take some time to work on yourself. Give yourself a bit of space and time. Recognise your true value, which is a hell of a lot more than you think it is. Please do this.

I see your point about bullet-dodging. I totally disagree about the knife.

Well maybe you actually need to take a deeper look at yourself then……..

Honestly dating is hell really even for people who are not feeling low……..but remember that every single one will not work out apart from the person who is for you and they will not work out so that you can be with that person, it took me until I was nearly 40 to meet my person and years of shit dates or seeing someone that turned out to be a complete tit or just getting dropped for no real reason…….i also did my fair share of running for the hills when they weren’t right but if I had been stuck with some tithead I wouldn’t have met the man I’m with now so think of it as a blessing in disguise, wishing you luck with it, just try and have fun with it all and don’t force the ones that aren’t meant to happen x
