Found women's stockings in our laundry basket

Hi all, probably a stupid question to ask but I found a pair of women's stockings in our laundry basket at home today. OH is away for work trip and my heart sank. I've sent photo asking what they are and who they belong to and he's not replied . I'm not imagining things right ?

Another poster suggested earlier that if you have a cleaner or someone else who often comes into your house, they may be using your washing machine. This happened to me - I started finding random children's socks and things in my washing, turned out my cleaner (who had kids - we didn't in those days) had been using my washing machine and tumble drier whilst she was working in our flat.

Rule out stockings stuck to your or your kid's towels at the pool, cleaner using them, a guest from months ago leaving them under the bed, a gardener, or next door neighbours garden using them to tie around plants (caught up in raked leaves), the dog finding them attached to a ball.
Show them to the kids as they might not know what you are talking about until they see them. Have the kids been in any concerts? Used stockings to make a tail for a costume? They could be part of an art work or found in the yard from neighbours washing their car etc.

I once found some random socks in a hotel we were staying in so it is possible they are completely unconnected to your husband.

Dark stockings left in a drawer/shelf by the previous occupant, not noticed by housekeeping, husband unpacks his stuff, they get caught on his stuff which he doesn’t notice then chucks it all in the washing machine. Entirely possible.

(That’s how I’m explaining the hedgehog socks found in my DH’s washing after he had been away 🤨)

I would be very concerned but hope there’s an innocent explanation for you.
I think it’s an error to give him the heads up (though understandable) as he’s got lots of time (to read Mumsnet/talk to his mates and) to come up with explanations.

Hmmm I found a random little white dress in our laundry basket following an overseas trip for me... It was another 4 mths, and lots of weird explanations, before he admitted to having an OW

A friend found out there was an OW when she found a lacy thong under her pillow . OW was fed up waiting so pushed things along a bit .

I think the answer to your question is quite obvious, and the context of this post really should have led you to find the answer yourself.

Whatever the real reason, he sounds a bit dim to make a mistake like that.

Most women don't wear stockings- they wear tights.

Definitely an OW or a sex worker. Funny how it wasn't a strange men's pair of socks or boxers that randomly appeared.

The fact it's stockings makes me think he has had a sex worker over whilst you have been out as how often does anybody realistically bother with stockings in their day to day life. They're something sex workers would wear/men would request. If they're definitely not yours, he's hiding something. I would personally tell him that you made a mistake and that they're yours from ages ago to throw him off and then start doing as much digging as you can.

He's clearly had another woman and an OW whose prepared to shag him in his marital home, presumably in OPs bed, is an OW who is seeking to mark out 'her territory' in your own home. That's exactly the sort of woman whose going to deliberately leave evidence of her existence in your home, where you will find it.

Why do people say this shit? The OW was not going about her day to day life! She was meeting him for sex in his marital bloody home! That is a really significant act if you are an OW. Its stepping over a massive boundary! She was dressing up for him, to please him and and 'outperform' his wife, in his wife's own bloody bed!

We don't know what occurred. It could be a work trip to a strip club, he could be a cross dresser- we don't know.

Similar happened to me. Was another few months before I got to the actual truth but it was an affair, sadly.

Her H tidying away stockings from a stripper? Come on!. Stockings aren't even cheap. I doubt strippers give away a free pair to each punter.

There isn't really any other realistic explanation as to how they got there.

In addition this thread is full of women saying it was the OW leaving behind pieces of overtly sexual clothing that led them to find out their H was having an affair.

Plus, I was posting in response to all the innocents who think women having affairs just go to their sex rendez-vous in their normal, baggy, belly covering pants, just their normal every day wear, and don't dress up at all. 🙄

This happened to me once….. they were his! Just a fetish he has.

If he's in hotels a lot it's possible they were left in a drawer by a previous occupant and he scooped them up with his stuff and then just threw the lot in the laundry basket. He surely didn't put them in there deliberately, since he denied any knowledge.

Do you trust him or do you have doubts? I guess that sort of think is sure to give you a niggle however much you would normally trust.

Op, has there been any other changes in behaviour? Secrecy over his phone?, change of grooming habits, excuses to stay late at work, new hobby interest. You have jumped to suspicion very quickly which leads me to think you may already have a gut feeling? I know it’s too late now but I would have held fire to do a bit more digging before I confronted him. I would have tried to access his phone or emails etc. if he thinks you’re on to him he could have now deleted anything useful. He took his time to answer you which makes me suspicious that he was using that time to delete any useful evidence. Also the deflection when you asked him! My ex used to do this. Act innocent then divert my attention.
