Hi all, probably a stupid question to ask but I found a pair of women's stockings in our laundry basket at home today. OH is away for work trip and my heart sank. I've sent photo asking what they are and who they belong to and he's not replied . I'm not imagining things right ?

OP posts:

This happened to me. Was how I found out about his affair as I hung out the washing and found a pair of stockings.

Good Lord. So the OW had been to your house and put them in the laundry for you to find?

ThisFluentBiscuit · 04/03/2025 04:01

OP, if your husband has been away with work, it's entirely possible that he scooped up a left-over pair of tights in the room with his stuff. Lots of shadowy places in hotel rooms with all the drawers and cubbyholes in wardrobes etc. Tights do stick to everything.

BigHeadBertha · 04/03/2025 04:06

As a couple of others have said, I'd just keep in mind that sometimes odd things happen. He may really not have done anything wrong.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 04/03/2025 04:07

OP, it's also possible that they stuck to you from somewhere and were caught up in your clothes. Like in a female changing room - in a shop or gym or something.

BlondiePortz · 04/03/2025 04:08

Maybe he is shagging the neighbour, crane your neck and see what she puts on the washing line you neve know you may find a pair of his underpants blowing in the wind just sat there waiting and watching

ShadowStriker · 04/03/2025 04:14

Do you have kids? Maybe they like to wear them?

Getbackinthebox · 04/03/2025 04:14

You don't have a nanny by any chance do you? Or have you had a babysitter for your child? Do you have a cleaner? Just checking there’s no ‘innocent’ explanation that has nothing to do with your DH?!

hellywelly3 · 04/03/2025 04:28

Could they have been left by previous owners/tennent. Only because when we moved in to our house and started drying clothes on a rack in the airing cupboard. They sometimes dropped behind the water tank. I found a couple of pairs of previous owners still there. I ended up washing them again in a mad rush to gather up washing to put the next load on.

autisticbookworm · 04/03/2025 04:52

So what logical explanations are there-

He shagged a woman wearing stockings at your house and she put them in your laundry basket to find

He shagged a woman somewhere else and the stockings somehow got mixed in his stuff

The stockings belong to you or a past guest

The stockings randomly got attached to yours or dhs clothing in some way

Do you think he could cheat? Does he have opportunity? If yes I would drop the stockings with him but start doing some snooping. Do you have access to his bank accounts? You could check his wallet , car, phone, drawers for evidence.

Laralou999 · 04/03/2025 05:02

What were they with in the washing? Were they with clothes from a previous work trip?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 04/03/2025 05:24

Have you had any friends over/ people to stay? You need to eliminate all other possibilities first.

User19876536484 · 04/03/2025 06:10

I found some in our utility room with all sorts of exotic stains on them.

DH had cut the legs off a pair of my old tights and been using them to strain paint.

rach7979 · 04/03/2025 06:11

Do you have a cat who could have brought them in?

Bingbopboomboomboombopbam · 04/03/2025 06:43

One time my boyfriend’s machine broke so I was letting him do his washing at mine - I had some free time so I thought I’d fold it and found a pair of Nike ankle socks, which was odd because I knew he didn’t like Nike.

I asked, he told me it was his friend’s who often left his bike there because his were wet. I believed it (the bike thing was true) and then a couple months later found out he was seeing someone else.

Either your DH is into cross dressing or someone left them there, maybe not accidentally.

Jesus! The leaps some women will go to to find an 'innocent explanation' 🤦‍♀️ Do you seriously believe that a pair of stockings 'stuck to' the OP from a random changing room?? Ffs! 🤣🤣

Bimblebombzle · 04/03/2025 07:01

Does he / has he been to a gym recently? What about you? Anywhere you have been where they could have gotten picked up? Swimming etc.?

User7288339 · 04/03/2025 07:05

Anyone else still waiting for the photo of them..?

PoltergeistsStartLowKey · 04/03/2025 07:07

SlowestHorse · 03/03/2025 18:37

That’s not stupid, it’s perfectly understandable. If your gut is telling you it’s off, it probably is. It probably feels like your world has shifted slightly on its axis - it has!, so acknowledge your feelings and be prepared for some difficult conversations. Then you can consider what’s next. Sending a hug, it’s horrible waiting to know what you’re dealing with.

Gut telling you it's off? How can this be 'on'. This is not on OP but you have made the error of giving him a chance to come up with some complete load of bollocks story.

He's been at it in your house or elsewhere and stuffed the stockings in his pocket of the trousers he was wearing that have come out in the machine.

Unless you have a daughter of stocking wearing age or an au pair or someone in the house that they could belong to. He's having an affair but it will be interesting to hear the convoluted story he will trot out.

Lolopolo · 04/03/2025 07:09

Maybe he bought them to masturbate with. Some men like that.

In relation to this guy being stupid- this guy didnt take much interest in his partner querying a pair of stockings and then changed the subject- would you not need to be a bit dense to not realise the reason why your partner sent the text? That she could be upset, panicking, suspicious etc. So is he dense or deliberately trying to avoid.

This so what I think, I’m afraid - denial.

Changing the subject was a diversion tactic after saying he didn’t a clue what she was talking about. It’s possibly the beginning of a gaslighting episode. If the OP brings it up again he’ll make out she’s making a fuss out of nothing - he’ll probably claim they’re hers and she’s forgotten she bought them. Or he’ll just stick to his guns and say he has no idea how they got there - what can the OP do then? Without further evidence she’s in an awful situation where something potentially disinter had happened and she actually has evidence but without further proof they’re ’just a pair of stockings’.

Sorry OP.

If I were you I’d be face timing him in the evening/morning while he’s away - don’t warn him - if he doesn’t switch on his camera that’s a bad sign.

I hope it’s nothing but no idea what other explanation there can be x

CSI here.
stockings … are they tights, tro kegs connected with pants on top?
or “stockings” and suspenders?

tights:
if they were chucked away, there’s no jizz. Female did not put them back on. If she wore them without underpants you can probably collect dna for a 23 & me. Clean nitrile gloves, distilled water, sterilized small beaker sterilized scissors and sterilized tweezers, clean work area, mask . With clean tools and work area. Cut of crotch part which contacted her bits (this won’t work if she also wore underpants).
You are going to make the “spit” for dna test
Cut out the crotch bit that has female fluid, put in the clean beaker with small amount distilled water. Let it soak a bit to get the dna into the water. Use tweezers to squeeze the fabric. Pour liquid into collection tube. Make a fake name etc and send it off. . Hope to catch the dna and find a match

Crikey.

RedSkyDelights · 04/03/2025 07:39

Possible innocent explanations

  1. OP has accidentally picked them up in gym/swimming pool changing room
  2. Her toddler has picked them up at nursery (maybe part of dressing up clothes or craft items).
  3. OP's OH has innocently picked them up in a hotel room (e.g. they've been left in a drawer and he didn't register them and put his things on top)
  4. Friend has been round and they've dropped out of her bag and then you/OH threw them in the wash without realising they weren't yours

Then you would have to walk home with them trailing from the back of your leggings 😂

SwerveCity · 04/03/2025 07:42

The obvious explanation is he is cheating. How often do people randomly find underwear that they’ve accidentally scooped up at a gym, or changing room or left behind by the cleaner?! A pair of stockings. Come on 😂
