Mine called me a n*** in the woodpile

BebbanburgIsMine · 28/10/2023 18:55

My XMIL said I could have a termination when we discovered we had a second daughter on the way.

Told me to make sure the next one was a boy.

She was an evil old cow, best thing I ever did was get divorced and leave her toxic family.

Gorden009 · 28/10/2023 18:55

SM4713 · 28/10/2023 18:41

@Gorden009 Where did she get indecent images of you from??? 😬

Her son, my ex🤦🏼‍♀️

In any other family that would be seen as abnormal. They were horrendous.

SillyAutomatic · 28/10/2023 18:57

Oddly given the way it's all ended up, I was actually friends with the bitch before I got with DH, 25 years on Halloween at HER party! We worked together. She then used her knowledge of me to try and poison our nascent relationship, told DH I probably had AIDs because I was so promiscuous. I just had a normal amount of flings like the average single 20 something.
I could write a book about her other poisonous comments over the years, but they pale into insignificance next to the way she treated DH. He's only recently come to terms with it, I went no contact ten years ago after she was cruel to our dog.
The maddest thing she did was insist on throwing me a 40th birthday party, but then only inviting her family and having it as a formal sit down meal, when I requested a BBQ as it was summer. I thought this would be easy and fun. I found out an hour before I was due to arrive that I had to buy our own food and cake as she hadn't provided anything for me and DH.

After the birth of our twins my husband booked a vasectomy. She said ' don't you think 'proud mum' should get sterilised instead you might want a more children ( with another woman) yet'.

Or the classic 'this is ( my son's )wife I suppose '

Or the cutting ' proud mum did well for herself marrying you'

She's dead now.

I'd been married 20 years when she called me my DH's 'wife I SUPPOSE'

sahm9 · 28/10/2023 18:58

Found out I had a heart condition and needed surgery. Around the dinner table she said ‘my friend had that heart condition, had the surgery… they died’ 🫠🙃🙃

Chardonnay73 · 28/10/2023 18:59

This is quite mild compared to some but it really pissed me off!

After hearing that I’d been on a work night out that ended up in a nightclub
“Did the other women you went with have husbands?”

I deliberately misread the meaning and went into great detail about how Jayne in accounts is living with someone, Debbie is divorced, Caitlin is engaged but thinks her fiancé is cheating etc etc.

She was from the era when women and their husbands were joined at the hip and never did anything apart socially. Horses for courses I suppose but I don’t live my life like that and I know she found it hard to accept.

Previous DPs mother had a small-holding and gave one of her new pigs the same name as me 🐷😂

OMG sorry that is so awful it made me laugh sort of thing my MIL would so.

Mine wrote me a letter when my son's then partner, now wife, became pregnant 'out of wedlock' and called my future grandchild an awkward and unfortunate event. Miserable bitch. She also said the same to them at a family wedding. Just one sample in a long line of awfulness. Can't stand the woman.

when my first dd was born I was told by my mil she would be called a bastard at school????

called me by my dp former fiance’s name even when we were married with two children, then when challenged, said, “I can’t get used to it “ ! how piteous !

TentChristmas · 28/10/2023 19:00

Wishing me dead.

AllHunsBlazing · 28/10/2023 19:01

FIL rather than MIL, but “oh, [DH’s name] what have you done?”

This was referring to marrying me, after I politely declined to participate in their hobby.

This was the final straw after endless catty comments. I don’t see PIL anymore, as it’s easier for everyone.

SIL somehow puts up with them. She’s a saint.

Lwrenagain · 28/10/2023 19:01

Bettyneptune · 28/10/2023 17:11

I quote "My son wouldn't ever leave you no matter how fat you get".......

I'd have taken that as a challenge! Pass me the Ben and Jerry's!

StrandedStarfish · 28/10/2023 19:02

On our wedding day.

‘I can’t believe that you have brought us here and forced us to watch you marry that slapper.’

On the birth of our first child.
‘Are you sure it’s yours? It looks nothing like you.’

On the birth of our second child.
’That one’s definitely not yours. Our family don’t have girls…’

ThelmaBorden · 28/10/2023 19:03

Proudmum17 · 28/10/2023 18:57

I'd been married 20 years when she called me my DH's 'wife I SUPPOSE'

mine referred to me, when speaking to my dh, her son, as ‘your friend’ - as in “does your friend want a cup of tea too ?” begrudged - she would make him one but not me - or her grandchildren
she is dead now, unmourned

AGovernmentOfLawsAndNotMen · 28/10/2023 19:03

Announcing I was pregnant with twins.

“No you’re not don’t be silly……”

I was huge even by the 12 wk point that we told her

ButtonDownBev · 28/10/2023 19:04

MIL (who we are no-contact with for many reasons) heavily implied that I got sexual pleasure/gratification from breast feeding my baby. I can't remember her exact wording.

Essentially I must get sexual pleasure from it as she couldn't comprehend why I wouldn't bottle feed - she was also outraged that therefore she couldn't bottle feed my baby herself and have him overnight straight from birth.

GettingSickOfYourNonsense · 28/10/2023 19:05

My MIL died a fe years ago, but she said -

"No wonder your face is bad, with all that make-up you wear" (I had very bad Rosacea and was self-conscious)
"You look as though you're still pregnant" (baby was 6 weeks old)
"It's just as well your mum died, she would have been a cabbage". The day after my lovely mum died.
"If he (my husband)was ever seeing another woman, I wouldn't tell you"

AGovernmentOfLawsAndNotMen · 28/10/2023 19:05

My dad told my soon to be sister in law and already mother of three on her wedding day
” in my day you wouldn’t have been allowed in a church never mind wear white “

SurprisedWithAHorse · 28/10/2023 19:06

My MIL is a nice, kind hearted person with absolutely no connection between her mouth and her brain. I've come to realise that I just shouldn't tell her anything unless I'm happy for all the inlaws and the local WI to know it too.

So it's not malicious, and it's got nothing on some stories here, but her most recent one was oversharing details with me about a SIL's weight and gut health. I hmmed and nodded and eventually had to say something, so I just said, "Well, it's hard to maintain a healthy weight, mine has fluctuated over the years", to which she replied, "Oh, I know, that's why I told you, I knew you'd understand. After all, you're not as thin as you were a few years ago. But you're not as fat as you were before that!"

Frisate · 28/10/2023 19:08

My baby had terrible reflux for the first 6 months of his life - it was so bad that for weeks, until the medication kicked in, we couldn’t put him down on his back for more than a few seconds or he would choke. He also never latched, I breastfed him with nipple shields - which negatively impacted my supply - and we had to supplement with formula so that he wouldn’t starve. My mother in law told me that his reflux was all my fault because I wasn’t exclusively breastfeeding him.

Crazycat53 · 28/10/2023 19:08

'i knew you were going to have a boy just to spite me' mil had 2 sons & always wanted a daughter. DD is 3 years younger than Ds. She bought gifts for DD everytime she saw her. Nothing for DS.
She cried when DH had a vacectomy because she hoped he would meet someone better than me & give her more granddaughters!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 28/10/2023 19:09

Mine is dead now, and was a witch we NC’d from early on.
She did plenty of horrid things, but one of her best was asking for some copies of our wedding pictures providing they didn’t have me on them! She also pulled me aside to tell me how she would kill me if i upset her son, and how wonderful her granddaughter looked. Never a mention of the bride, she was a very bitter jealous cow. Good riddance

Darthwazette · 28/10/2023 19:09

When my father died and was still grieving ten days later “that is rather immature of you, don’t you think?”

Echobelly · 28/10/2023 19:10

MIL has her good sides but she can be outrageous sometimes. The following were all early in our relationship, tbf she's got rather better in last 10 years.

The time when my mum (who has a chronic health condition) had to cancel a festive meal where ILs were invited because she wasn't well enough and MIL was angry she'd done that and that my grandparents, in their mid 80s at the time, didn't offer to host 12+ people instead.

The time she came over just after we were home with our first baby, having a nice chilled time just nesting - the flat was untidy but not dirty and she came in and looked around like there were vats of nuclear waste everywhere, and when I clearly got a bit stressed by her attitude started saying 'You're obviously not coping!' as DH shoved her out of the door. We were totally fine until she turned up!

The time she pointedly commented to me that 'I seemed to be going out a lot lately' (I really hadn't!) when my kids were 1 and 4, because I told her I'd spent a day out of town.... for my mate's dad's funeral.

I hope you and your DH are NC with her now.

pigsDOfly · 28/10/2023 19:12

My MIL always liked to make a point about how much she didn't want me in her son's, no my exh, life.

The first time I met her she told me that I would never marry him because I'd ruin his life.

After our wedding, which was abroad, several of the guests: some of our friends and MIL & FIL stayed on at the hotel for a few days, as did we. MIL used this opportunity to tell anyone who listen that they stayed on after the wedding because her son wanted his mother on his honeymoon; she also managed to repeat this to me several times during the few days they were there even though we spent absolutely no time with his parents during their stay.

Another time when MIL, FIL and several other members of their family were coming to our house for about three days for a festive occasion, she told me a few days beforehand that 'they were all coming to 'my husband's name's' house' for the festival. It was as if I were the hired help and she was informing me about the arrangements for which I would be doing the catering.

Nasty woman.
