If I am brutally honest my experience of dating in my fifties has been: negging, below average sex, lazy WhatsApping (I mean who can't pick up the phone and say good morning) and what I am pretty certain is gaslighting infidelity cloaked as "it's just how the world of dating is now"... a bunch of greedy little boys with their hand stuck in the cookie jar that is OLD. Is it really worth the effort?

Turned into a 5 hour lunch. She was much more interesting, knowledgeable and downright fascinating than I expected.

We're going to have a second date. I'll have to have a shave and be totally presentable😃

I thought exactly the same thing. I hate how OLD turns men into creeps and behave in a way that is just unacceptable in real life. I actually wanted to ask him how he would feel if a man spoke to his daughter that way. Surely men don't think this is OK?!

I think it's a certain type of entitled childish men who are already getting knock back after knock back so it becomes a game. A decent bloke isn't likely to behave like this but those types also meet people very quickly and come off the apps. I've got a lot of single beautiful, successful female friends but my superficially average male friends who are nice with ok jobs, met partners really easily on online dating.

Yes I can see that. Any decent man must be snapped up very quickly I would imagine. Also any man who behaves on OLD, with a shred of decency must have the pick of the crop when it comes to women online because we are so used to the likes of "need a wank" man that when someone decent does come along it's such a novelty that you think you've hit the jackpot. It's actually really quite sad the way it is these days.

That does seem to fit with my experience. My male friends who are halfway decent looking and articulate seem to have women queuing down the street after them. One in particular seems to have a new gf every time I see him. Yet my attractive well presented intelligent female friends struggle to get a date with anyone even vaguely decent.

Yes I think i was the second woman dp actually met on OLD. By that time I'd been playing around with various types of OLD for almost 3 years.

But why is that? It’s a bit puzzling -

1. The good ones are taken or
2. The better looking or sane men date younger or
3. Single intelligent women are on average more highly developed (any vaguely decent man can get a woman of some kind - and are they that fussy?)?

But what is vaguely decent looking and what passes for halfway decent looking ? Surely there should be some kind of guide to make them easier to find ?

Probably a combination of all 3 plus it seems there’s a lot of men over 50 who have gone out of long relationships and now just want something casual - which to them means no strings sex.

I also think older women are a lot more content being on their own which means we’re less likely to settle and probably more selective in what we’re looking for.

Well speaking as a 60 year old man, 4 years ago I met this lovely woman using OLD who is now my DW. The best decision I ever made ❤️

Not a phrase i would use but i do recall that when i was briefly on OLD a fairly high proportion of women posted id pics that were just breasts. Some maybe in a bra but made clear what they thought they were promoting. I swerved them.

If I saw ID pictures that were breasts I would assume they were advertising paid services, not just normal women looking for a partner.
But when I did OLD, I swapped sexes briefly a couple of times to see what other women's profiles looked like, and never saw anything like that.
