I married my teacher and now it feels... weird

Almost 30 years ago I got together with my French teacher right at the end of sixth form. We've been married for decades. I'm ten years younger.
But, it feels weird especially as I work loosely in safeguarding.
Our marriage is OK. We have children.
Do I need to get over myself?!

11 year olds are in Year 7 and 13 year olds are in Year 8. Hardly predatory behaviour. I would say most people lose their virginity after age 15. I take an issue with people in their mid 20s or over dating teens (even those who are legally adults).

Exactly – when I was that age people were kissing (like snogging) from around age 10 but it was still all fairly innocent – and people weren't doing anything more. Most 13 year old boys were/are not having sex!!

A group of us all used to hang round (boys and girls) and we were all between 11 and 13 and were all friends.

In hindsight, isn't it interesting that teaching became female dominated when safeguarding was introduced?
It's always been fairly female dominated, especially once women no longer had to give up their position on marriage.

There's always been a series of expectations on professional conduct, though a blind eye was turned in some establishments.

The changes to the law on the early 2000s weren't bringing safeguarding into effect. There were safeguarding expectations before that. The law change was making a clear statement on professional conduct in situations where both people are above the age of consent.

They had to resign on marriage in the 19th Century.

@Gwenhwyfar Maybe but that's why a fair few of them were 'spinsters.' And if they resigned they'd just be replaced by another woman anyway.

Yes I remember list 99 etc. But I do note that pervy male teachers seemed to have disappeared in the mainstream of secondary education. It's a complaint now, isn't it, that secondary schools have few male teachers (though generally not enough teachers all round).

Some of these guys did regard it as a perk. We all knew about certain male teachers and who to avoid. That was 30 years ago.

The type of man we get is quite different to when I started teaching 40 years ago. They understand safeguarding and know how to conduct themselves.

Yes, but as it was limited to single women there weren't as many women as a proportion.

A 14 and 17 year old can be year 10 and year 12. I can’t see that’s a problem. It’s fairly normal to go out with someone 2 school years apart
