How could the lady walk into his house that cost her life?

Hello All,

Such a sad story. I can't understand. Was the house door open and not locked then?

We need to teach our children TO TALK, ASK QUESTIONS and NEVER to attack or fight without any need for it.

Barmouth: Man accused of murdering woman denies boasting

David Redfern denies the murder or manslaughter of a holidaymaker who mistook his home for a B&B.

Redfern told the jury when he and his fiancée came into the room, they found Mrs Barnes sitting up in their bed drinking gin and tonic with her false teeth on the bedside table.

What a big tough man, 6 foot 1, 22 stone, kicking a 71yo woman to death who had taken out her false teeth Sad

Sometimes I just want to hide from the world.

category12 · 29/03/2023 19:35

Horrific, I could have done without knowing about this, tbh. 😢

Poor woman.

JimmyHalpert · 29/03/2023 19:39

I can’t believe what I’ve just read, that has honestly made me feel sick.

When will women be safe?

This is the sort of crime where they should seriously consider whether the perpetrator should ever be released. There was no provocation or excuse for his totally disproportionate and gratuitous reaction. Anger issues, bloody hell, looks like he was on an absolute hair trigger looking for any excuse to batter someone.

I agree. I felt physically ill when I read this story and still do. I hope that he receives a very long sentence and doesn't know a moment's peace or happiness again in his life. This was a very deliberate act of savage cruelty. The furtherest thing possible from a mistake,

Agree 100%.

Savage cruelty is exactly what it was and he enjoyed doing it. That poor woman the terror and pain she suffered must have been horrific.

123wentaway · 29/03/2023 19:50

I read on BBC news he called the police, then attacked and killed the lady. He has “ self confessed anger issues” but this is way off the scale. Hope he gets 25 minimum.

Maunderingdrunkenly · 29/03/2023 19:54

The fiancé still has him as her fb cover photo, if that says anything

HighDudgeonAtBerks · 29/03/2023 19:56

Fuck fuck fuck. I missed this story. I know Nicki - not as a close friend, but I know her well enough to know that she had a terrible head injury that almost killed her in june-ish 2022. She said it was from a fall, but the fact that he was attending anger management classes makes me question that now.

Nicki, if he hurt you it’s not too late to go to the police about that too.

Jesus, that poor woman and poor Nicki, I’m so sick of violent men ruining good women’s lives. Fuck.

You know what @HighDudgeonAtBerks as shocking as your story is - it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was him. I mean - it's just not easy to get a terrible head injury from a fall. Fucking waste of oxygen ruining peoples lives.

Messyhair321 · 29/03/2023 20:06

This man is dangerous and very violent, he is also in denial of his behaviour, what a disgraceful way to behave, poor woman.
This actually happened to us once, we used to live in a row of houses all looking the same, we came home one night and the lock wasn't right but we continued in because there was no sign of a break in, we found the neighbour, really pissed naked in our bed (we didn't know it was the neighbour just thought it was some random person, we called the police and they took him away, he was completely out of it, had actually sat down in our lounge and smoked a cigarette, put his shoes neatly by the sofa. I wouldn't have dreamed of getting violent with him, it was just a mistake that was harmless. This man who did this is unbelievable and should take responsibility for taking a life without the need to do this

TomatoSandwiches · 29/03/2023 20:12

Hopefully if he has had an assessment via a court appointed psychiatric team they will have enough information to influence his sentencing, this is definitely not the first time he's put hands on a woman.

35965a · 29/03/2023 20:13

I think is disgraceful people are putting any responsibility on his girlfriend. My DH is a good 5 stone lighter than this guy and there’s no way I could physically stop him doing anything even if I tried, he is so much stronger than me. The only one in the wrong here is this murderous thug.

Clarabe1 · 29/03/2023 20:13

Poor woman. I was thinking about how I would react if I have found an old lady in my bed asleep. I would be thinking I am going dine out on this story and would be making her a brew and hoping we could both have a good laugh over it. I mean if you have B&B’s that look identical to your house it’s pretty obvious what has happened isn’t it? Of all the beds she could have fell asleep in it had to his - the big fat bullying bastard.

Urgh, has she no shame?

Maunderingdrunkenly · 29/03/2023 20:18

Same here but I’d still give it a damn good go. If someone’s life was under threat?! I wouldn’t be able to just stand by

loislovesstewie · 29/03/2023 20:19

My partially sighted adult child walked into a neighbour's house one day. He just couldn't see well enough to realize he had walked past our home. My neighbours, being lovely people, just guided him home, thank goodness. It makes you think, doesn't it?

Maunderingdrunkenly · 29/03/2023 20:19

That was to @35965a

I haven’t read anywhere that she just stood by. Anyway it doesn’t matter, it’s vile to be attacking her when she did not kill this poor woman.

JazzyJelly · 29/03/2023 20:36

This is horrifying. That poor, poor woman.

Zuffe · 29/03/2023 20:58

I will be very interested to read the Court Sentencing Report on him. The judge will make some very clear comments. It will not be released for a while after the sentencing which is this Friday.

He will get a life sentence, that is the rule. As to the tariff, the only mitigating factor I can see is no premeditation. There are plenty of aggravating factors.

This man is an evil, angry brute. If it had not been the particular victim that night it would have been another, probably his partner. If it had not been that night it would have later in the holiday. Or if not on that holiday, a month later on someone else when back at home. Clearly he was simmering.

I am glad he will go to prison for a very long time. The starting point for murder is 15 years. Add to that another 7 years for the fact the victim was a 71 year old vulnerable lady. Probably add another 5 years for the way in which he killed her. That takes us to about 25-27 years. The only mitigating factor may be given little weight. He assaulted her in a manner that he must have known he intended to kill her, particularly throughout the assault. Any reasonable concerns as to the safety of himself and his property were far exceeded and he would have known that.

I am betting he gets 24 years. I wager this will be the minimum term he will serve of his life sentence. At the end of that term he will be 70. He will be released only after The Parole Board consider he is no longer a danger to the public. There is always the potential he may never be released.

Lifeomars · 29/03/2023 21:00

My one time neighbour's husband had dementia and used to sometimes wander into my house (he lived in the adjoining terrace). I would find him sitting on the sofa, just used to take him home. He could only do it when I had forgotten to latch the door having run in quickly with the shopping and child in buggy. The thought of getting in any way aggressive with him never ever entered my head, I just felt sorry for him and very sorry for his wife

Kerfuffler · 29/03/2023 21:03

He wasn't on holiday @Zuffe , it was where he lived.

Beantag · 29/03/2023 21:03

I genuinely think some men just cannot physically resist harming women if what they see as an opportunity presents itself. She was no risk to him, he knew this, he even phoned the police but he just couldn't control himself and pass up the opportunity. It is genuinely really fucking scary, he deserves to rot in prison and thoughts with her family and friends. Horrific.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/03/2023 21:04

Unforgivable.

Poor woman - and her family and friends. They will never be at peace knowing how terrified she must have been and in so much pain. He’s given them all a life sentence.

Hellocatshome · 29/03/2023 19:29

I had a similar situation in that a drunk lady possibly in her 60s came in to our house after 11pm at night and was half way up our stairs to where the children were sleeping before I had realised what had happened.

I was home alone and quite scared despite her being older than me because she was obviously drunk and not behaving rationally. I managed to get passed her on the stairs blocking her way to getting any further and asked her to leave. She wouldn't leave and was becoming quite aggressive (because she thought I was in her house).

BUT do you know what I didnt do? I didnt kill her. This man had multiple options available to him but he chose to kill her. I hope he isnt up for parole anytime soon.

How did she get in? I don’t understand how people leave their door unlocked at any time never mind 11pm

He’ll be dead way before 70. Can’t believe he’s 46, he looks like he’s in his 60s. Ugly evil eyed dickhead.
