Would you date a man shorter than you?

Just that really - was having a discussion around a dinner party tonight and the issue seemed v. contentious, so I said I would post on here to gauge other opinions!

My ex was 5’ 5” my DH is 6’ 2”, so height doesn’t really bother me, it’s about the person.

Leemoe · 03/01/2023 23:00

Yes. I am 5'9 and my DH is 5'8.

Would never date a man who is slimmer than me though. I like muscles and broad shoulders.

Marymary987 · 03/01/2023 23:00

I’ve been married to my 3” shorter husband for 20 years so yes!

Kanaloa · 03/01/2023 23:01

Like a pp, I’m very short myself - my 12 year old is taller than me and my 11 year old daughter is almost too! So if I dated shorter, I think it would have to be someone who was child sized. Which is just unlikely. I think if I was taller I’d have a different view on it.

joan12 · 03/01/2023 23:01

Yes. I'm 5'8. I find it quite sexy actually!

BeatriceBatchelor · 03/01/2023 23:01

Newusernameaug · 03/01/2023 22:47

No, I’m 5’6 and the shortest I’ve dated is 5’11, as a general rule for me it’s 6ft minimum

Are you in the UK? If so, aren't you really limiting your options?

Fuck no

Poor Phil will be sad you turned him down Grin

This is why I’m not keen on overly tall men. They’re often very skinny or look like Stephen Merchant. I prefer a well built 5’10

WithTheirDogAfterTheWar · 03/01/2023 23:05

Yes, I am currently - I'm about 5'8" and he's an inch or two shorter. More if I'm wearing platform trainers 😂(closest I get to heels!) So he's used to being fairly short for a man. I like the idea I'm saying fuck you to the patriarchy and heteronormativity 😂but no seriously, we've just got a lot of chemistry and his height isn't an issue at all. He's well built though, way stronger than me - I wouldn't like to feel like I could win in a wrestling match, so that's where my "I want a proper man" stereotype line is 😁

GladiatorSandals · 03/01/2023 23:07

Married to my wondrous shorter DH for aeons.

PhilCollinsFanGirl · 03/01/2023 23:08

Msgrieves, I do believe he has a couple of inches on me!!

And I'm only interested in 1980s Phil with the balding mullet. I'm not an animal!

Eatentoomanyroses · 03/01/2023 23:08

@Montague22 lucky you! I must admit I’m living vicariously through my dc having such nice builds. Always been a bit chubby and awkward myself.

FairytaleofNewHampshire · 03/01/2023 23:10

Definitely not. I'm only 4 ft 10", they would be no use when shopping and the items are on a really high shelf.

Ilovewillow · 03/01/2023 23:11

No, but I'm 5"2. My husband is 6 ft and my ex husband was 5"6 and he felt too short although obviously not why we split up!

collosalbrainbearer · 03/01/2023 23:13

@Cuppasoupmonster have noticed the same, usually shorter women with stronger preferences for tall men.

Have posted before that in 5'11-6 with a shorter DH. I'm used to men being shorter than me. Plus if I waited for only men taller than me, chances are I'd die alone.

I really don't notice, feel self-conscious or less feminine. Would only be a deal breaker if short + (no body/facial hair, slimmer than me...)

Northernsoullover · 03/01/2023 23:13

Yes I would and do. My boyfriend is two inches shorter than me. As have been my previous two. It's real shame it's such a deal breaker for so many but of course I understand its perfectly OK to have preferences.

Deathbyfluffy · 03/01/2023 23:13

Luckily blessed at 6”3 here (M) but I do wonder why height is such an issue for some.
If men openly shunned potential partners carrying a few extra pounds there’d be an organised lynching!

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/01/2023 23:13

No but I’m short and very rarely meet any man shorter. DH is 9 inches taller than me. I once dated a man who was much too tall for me, I got a sore neck talking to him standing up. He married an extremely tall woman.

Therunecaster · 03/01/2023 23:13

Yes. My lovely DP is 2 - 3 inches shorter. He makes the best little spoon in the world!

Whadda · 03/01/2023 23:14

Absolutely not.

But then I’d also never date a blond man.

Nowt wrong with preferences.

My sister is married to a man who is quite petite. They wear the same shoe size.

KezzabellaB · 03/01/2023 23:14

No but then I'm only 5 foot and a fart anyway so don't get many people shorter than me, especially men!
DH is 6'1", exes have all been over 6' so I think we can safely say I have a type, and that's not a short man! 😁

DisappearingGirl · 03/01/2023 23:15

Yes. I tend to fall for the person so don't really have a physical type. I have had crushes on some men who are short!

Leemoe · 03/01/2023 23:15

Cuppasoupmonster · 03/01/2023 23:04

I completely agree.

Each to their own but I couldn't feel comfortable with a man whose clothes would be too small for me.

My friend is 5'3 and a size sixteen and is always saying how feminine her slim 6' husband makes her feel by virtue of his height. Good for her I suppose but it would make me feel like a heifer knowing that I couldn't get in to my husbands' jeans 🤣

I'm a small framed woman and my husband is short but well built and well muscled and that makes me feel more feminine than a lanky man ever could.

We're all different and thats a good thing isn't it?

collosalbrainbearer · 03/01/2023 23:16

Thing is, I get that tall men are attractive. But there are some women who will turn down a charming shirt/average man for a tall man with the personality of a tissue. Just because he's taller.

So, very normal but sone people's preference is so strong I find it difficult to understand

jay55 · 03/01/2023 23:18

I'd like to say yes, especially if he can make me laugh. But I never have and don't know if in reality I would.
