Would you date a man shorter than you?

Just that really - was having a discussion around a dinner party tonight and the issue seemed v. contentious, so I said I would post on here to gauge other opinions!

No, but I’m 5”4 so a man shorter than me would have to be really short!

fatsinglereadytomingle · 04/01/2023 04:18

No I'm not particularly tall at 5ft7, but Ive only ever been with men 6ft and over. Closer to my height would be ok but not shorter.

JustKittenAround · 04/01/2023 04:21

Not again and I’m very tall. I used to not care but they always have been a waste of time and I’m not going to coddle someone at the expense of not being very freaking proud of my height.. I love being tall and I won’t slump for a shorter man again LOL

OldTinHat · 04/01/2023 04:22

No and I'm 5'7.

Remaker · 04/01/2023 04:25

I’m 5ft6 and I haven’t met a lot of men shorter than me. I’ve dated men from 5ft8-6ft. DH is at the lower end of that range. I also don’t care about build particularly, am surprised how many women don’t like slim men.

I think for me attraction is based on intellect/humour/personality rather than looks.

curiousierandcouriser · 04/01/2023 04:41

Its personal to each of us what sparks our interest and everyone will have their own (sometimes very definitive) preferences and ideas of attractiveness. Whether its hair style/colour, age, ethnicity, religion, sports/music tastes, smoker, drinker, clothing, height, weight, etc. As long as people are respectful and don't try to convince each other that their preferences are wrong or try to use them to change people, it really shouldn't matter.

For the record, yes, I would date someone shorter or taller than me.

MaryJean87 · 04/01/2023 06:11

No because I'm 5'1.

Talon01 · 04/01/2023 06:20

Seems to be the equivalent of men that prefer dating younger (obviously within a reasonable age range).

I love MN and all the double standards 😅

hattie43 · 04/01/2023 06:33

No . Somehow it's the wrong order of things .

Zanatdy · 04/01/2023 06:33

No but I’m only 5ft 1 at best. So I wouldn’t fancy someone shorter than me. If I was much taller then I’d consider someone slightly shorter

CousinKrispy · 04/01/2023 06:34

Of course I would. Depending on the personality!!

I can understand women not wanting to date men shorter than them, but I can never understand a 5'2 woman saying "I'll only date 6 foot plus!"

What, like dating a man 5'10 or 5'11 would be a dealbreaker for them?! 😂 If they're that short, how would they even know if someone's 5'10 or 6 foot?!

Anyone who says 'all my exes have been 6'' doesn't have a clue.

Most taller men aren't going to be 6' (they're shorter and round up).

S either you're a heartthrob who gets every man she wants - or your 6' exes have been (gasp) under 6'.

poopykins · 04/01/2023 07:18

Not directed at you of course, just agreeing with the post! @TrishM80

Itsonlyagame · 04/01/2023 07:20

Yes, and I have in the past. I'm 5ft 8 and don't care what height someone is.

TeeBee · 04/01/2023 07:30

Yep. They're all the same height lying down.

Needthisjob · 04/01/2023 07:51

Imagine if people were judging your sons or grandsons like this.

Notyouyetagain · 04/01/2023 08:00

No. My partner (who is 6ft) said dating a woman taller than him never bothered him.

I like men with long legs

WinterFoxes · 04/01/2023 08:01

Would be unlikely as I'm 5'3". But although DH is tall I always dated and preferred shorter men before I met him.

DS is very short and his girlfriend is about 3" taller. They don't give a toss.

Notyouyetagain · 04/01/2023 08:03

I have no problem with men wanting to date younger women, only slim women etc. We are attracted to what we’re attracted to and no one should compromise on that. I’ve never understood why women take such offence that they’d be out of a man’s dating requirements

If someone told me they were going to see what mumsnet thought about an issue we were chatting about, I‘d think they were a bit mad. Are they all eagerly awaiting the results? 😬

category12 · 04/01/2023 08:19

I generally find myself with chaps around my height or a little taller. I don't give a shit if I'm taller than them when I wear heels. I'd date someone shorter if i liked him.

I don't like being towered over, I find it intimidating.

😆 indeed, sounds like a pretty dull dinner party!!

CrunchyCarrot · 04/01/2023 08:26

Yes. I have never had relationships with taller men, actually. My long term DP is about 4 inches shorter than me. I wouldn't trade him in for all the gold in the world. I find tall men intimidating, I don't know why.

Cuppasoupmonster · 04/01/2023 08:53

Highlyflavouredgravy · 03/01/2023 23:50

I think the usual mumsnet response iscthat you can reject whomsoever you want for any reason you want. Dating is not an equal opportunities activity.

Oh it can be on here trust me! If a man can’t see past your weight he’s ‘shallow, and not worth dating anyway’

catsnthat · 04/01/2023 09:14

No.
