DH going to Hooters

RulaCabula · 22/11/2022 07:32

Am I wrong to feel annoyed? Him and his pals are all late 50s - early 60s and the thought of Dh ogling the girls makes me feel sick.
DH says I'm being irrational as women go there and its just fun.

Can you give more context? Is it a birthday etc? Or just a bunch of old men going to ogle young girls?

Honestly it turns my stomach a bit. They are too old for this shit.

Do you have a daughter or nieces etc who are early 20s? Does he think 50 year old men should be eyeing them up?

BlusteryLake · 22/11/2022 07:36

Eww, that's grim. Men always find a way to pass it off as harmless fun but to be it's all a bit creepy old man.

CatherineNotSoMuch · 22/11/2022 07:36

No, just no. Fools.

YeahThanks · 22/11/2022 07:38

Yanbu. There’s no way my dh would feel comfortable somewhere like that.

Ostryga · 22/11/2022 07:38

Well of course he’s going to say that. YANBU though. If he just wanted to have fun he could go to any bar in the world, why does he need to ogle women in very skimpy clothes while doing it.

You have to decide if you want to put your foot down and risk being made out to be a jealous, irrational, no self-esteem (enter anything else men say when they don’t get their own way) etc.

I might be biased because I don’t believe women should be used in this way to sell beer - even if they are more than happy to do so themselves. But hey maybe I’m irrational too.

DuncanBiscuits · 22/11/2022 07:38

Yeah, my DH is that age and if he tried to pull this shit, (he wouldn’t want to), the fallout would be so immense it would make Chernobyl look like a dropped pie.

Just, no. Ew.

00100001 · 22/11/2022 07:39

It's hardly a strip club, and it's not as if anything is in display....

You'd see young girls wearing those type of clothes in the street and at any restaurant

User38899953 · 22/11/2022 07:42

I've been to hooters a few times when in the states. Purely because they did the best chicken wings around.

bellinisurge · 22/11/2022 07:47

He's a dickhead. I would raise hell if my dh did this. As for "that's what you see girls wear on the streets", what are you, the fucking Taliban?

forlornlorna1 · 22/11/2022 07:53

I'd tell my dh that I was actually embarrassed for him. Bunch of sad old men ogling younger women. Would give me the ick!

RulaCabula · 22/11/2022 07:57

Its for a birthday this wkend but then they're planning on going again for their Xmas night out.
My DD (his stepdaughter) is 22 so it just adds to the ickyness.
Glad I'm not out of order for feeling really peeved off with this.

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 22/11/2022 07:58

Sad old pervs.

AmandaHoldensLips · 22/11/2022 07:59

We used to call people like that "dirty old man"

Ostryga · 22/11/2022 08:00

The fact that your daughter is 22 and he’s going twice would send me over the edge.

Is he this gross in other aspects? What are his redeeming qualities?!

Stressfordays · 22/11/2022 08:06

They do really nice chicken wings, we used to go on work nights out and I'm female. Its just a restaurant at the end of the day, not a strip club.

He's basically saying it's fun for him to lustfully gaze at women young enough to be his daughter.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 22/11/2022 08:21

Sorry Op, but that would give me a permanent ick.

cleanfreak12345 · 22/11/2022 08:24

Thread yesterday that mentioned a stripper as part of a hen do, nobody had a problem with that though

Whattown · 22/11/2022 08:27

I've been plenty and am female. Food is good lots of tvs playing sport. Girls wear the most un sexy granny tights. It really isn't an ogle place. They would have more to ogle at in a normal bar full of young girls if that's your worry.

Artygirlghost · 22/11/2022 08:27

It is all part of a toxic culture that still insists on seeing women as sex objects and commodities that can be bought by men.

Also quite revolting that men that age would find it acceptable to drool over women in their 20s, the same age as their daughters potentially.

So no it is not harmless fun in any way.

If they want to have fun they can go to a regular bar and have a drink there.

I would.

I boggle when women my age go to hen do’s with naked butlers, etc.

The guys are my sons’ age. Apart from the exploitation aspect, I’d feel like a right sad idiot, lusting over someone I have clothes older than.

It’s all just gross.

cocavino · 22/11/2022 08:29

Hooters as a concept is disgusting. Though the reality may be unsexy (according to posters here) the fact that it's built on the premise of sexual exploitation of young women makes it a no go for me.

IneedanewTV · 22/11/2022 08:32

Difficult as in reality I’m not sure what you can do except express your disappointment. Unfortunately these bars are taking off all over the U.K. and are popular. Not my thing but we seem to be going backwards as a country in terms of respect for girls and women.

C8H10N4O2 · 22/11/2022 08:38

So he is telling you that in his view women and their bodies are products for men to buy and perve over.

I'd have a massive issue with that.

GreenWasTheColour · 22/11/2022 08:44

The hen do thread did have comments on how gross it is to have a stripper. It didn't get loads of attention because it was an aside in the OP and the post was all about the accommodation so most people didn't pick up on the stripper part and focused on the OP's actual question. There were certainly condemnatory comments about it though!

So pathetic for men to go to Hooters, would turn me inside out with the ick. How embarrassing for him.
