DH going to Hooters

RulaCabula · 22/11/2022 07:32

Am I wrong to feel annoyed? Him and his pals are all late 50s - early 60s and the thought of Dh ogling the girls makes me feel sick.
DH says I'm being irrational as women go there and its just fun.

Ask him what's fun about eating food served by young girls served in skimpy clothing, and if he goes to nightclubs specifically to see that too.

Creep.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/11/2022 06:25

It's just a burger bar with some pretty girls. It's not a strip club. I've been plenty times to them in the states with kids.

ChrisTrepidation · 23/11/2022 06:26

@RulaCabula His response tells you everything you need to know about his attitude to both you and women in general.

It's just grim and disrespectful.

Velvian · 23/11/2022 06:42

I don't think I would feel any different about DH going to Hooters than I would if he went to a lap dancing club.

It is so grim and I am so disappointed that it even exists over here, so demoralising.

Women go to the gym to exercise and he should mind his own business, not bring us into a ridiculous justification for paying to look at teenagers breasts with his mates.

He is not in any position to be throwing around slurs at you, as if that makes it better!

Did you go because it's 'fun' and because you'd see less skin in a nightclub or did you go because you like the food?

He's made it clear he's going for the girls, not the food. That's the issue.

youtwoandme · 23/11/2022 06:49

The age to get a job in Hooters UK is 16.
Dirty old men!!

thelobsterquadrille · 23/11/2022 06:57

I really couldn't get worked up about this in the slightest.

NancyJoan · 23/11/2022 07:00

It’s a bar/restaurant named after a slang term for big breasts. Lovely.

The business model is based on very young women wearing tight clothes to sell food/drink. Lovely.

I would feel the same way as you. My DH is 54 and our DD and her friends are 16/17. It would not be ‘fun’.

Bestcatmum · 23/11/2022 07:16

DuncanBiscuits · 22/11/2022 07:38

Yeah, my DH is that age and if he tried to pull this shit, (he wouldn’t want to), the fallout would be so immense it would make Chernobyl look like a dropped pie.

Just, no. Ew.

Hahahaha

SunflowerTed · 23/11/2022 07:58

RulaCabula · 23/11/2022 06:15

Thanks for the replies - DH is still planning on going 🤬 with 'the boys.'
I brought it up last night with him, his excuses were:
Its just fun
Women wear less in the gym , pubs etc and its not a strip club
Women go to hooters too.

He then said I was acting like a domineering wife ( I'm not, this has just really really annoyed me.)

Can't put into words how much I feel hurt by all this.

I think this situation is more about your insecurities than the actual night out.

Covetthee · 23/11/2022 08:09

I would be with you on a strip club because I am completely against that, men are literally paying for their sexual gratification and that’s gross.

but hooters? Really? Any sports bar or bar/pub is likely to have attractive female servers, its not just a hooters thing. I get its the point of him wanting to go to perve on the girls which is gross I agree but I do think there are deeper issues here.

also if it makes you feel better , a few times I’ve been i’ve had male waiters 🤣

Aikko · 23/11/2022 08:36

Sure, I can't imagine why he'd be excited about going to Hooters for some good food, and also be able to lust and drool over a bit of young eye candy at the same time with the lads.... .

stuntbubbles · 23/11/2022 08:38

SunflowerTed · 23/11/2022 07:58

I think this situation is more about your insecurities than the actual night out.

Because of course the only reason to object to men paying to perve on 16-year-old girls in hot pants is insecurity Hmm

girlmom21 · 23/11/2022 08:44

I think this situation is more about your insecurities than the actual night out.

It's more about him openly admitting he's going there to perv on women the same age as his step daughter, actually.

MMmomDD · 23/11/2022 09:05

Just book Magic Mike show for your next girls night out.

Personally a bunch of 50/60yos celebrating b-day at Hooters is a bit laughable and a bit pathetic. But life is too short worrying about crap like that.
Yes, it isn’t nice getting older. And not going to Hooters won’t stop him & his friends noticing/looking/ogling younger women in sexy clothes.

ItsAWoozyItsAWazzy · 23/11/2022 09:19

In this day and age I really struggle to understand how America still has Hooters. So degrading for women.

Bookworm20 · 23/11/2022 09:25

I agree. You sound like such a prude

Haha, nice one. I'd rather be considered a 'prude' by randoms on the internet though than think its totally normal and fine for a man I am married to to go to a restaurant specifically aimed at men to oogle very young women.

I think this situation is more about your insecurities than the actual night out.

And theres the other one. Yes, yes, we're all insecure because we find it sleezy for men to perv on women. Silly us, we really need to work on that.

I'll save everyone else the time and just re-iterate for those who really appear to not get this. It is not about:
Being a prude
Being insecure
Being over sensitive
Being controlling
Being ridiculous
Being jealous
Over thinking

Have I missed any?

And for those who still don't understand. It is about the objectification of those women. Here is what it means if you're unclear:

The objectification of women involves them being viewed primarily as an object of male sexual desire, rather than as a whole person. These include the sexually oriented depictions of women in advertising, art and media, pornography, jobs that require women to dress in a provocative way and women being brazenly evaluated or judged aesthetically in public spaces and events.

Stressfordays · 22/11/2022 08:06

They do really nice chicken wings, we used to go on work nights out and I'm female. Its just a restaurant at the end of the day, not a strip club.

If it was 'just a restaurant' the girls wouldn't all be young, attractive and wearing tiny shorts and t-shirts.

Don't be so disingenuous.

Mostmarriedcouple · 23/11/2022 09:41

Richielogic · 23/11/2022 04:13

Oh for gawds sake, the guy is probably more interested in the chicken wings.

There are probably better sports bars to go to granted but as far as i understand it, Hooters is an American sports bar come diner. Kind of a Fridays but waitresses wearing t-shirts with owls on? They are not topless or anything.

It wouldn't be my personal choice of restaurant; they are unlikely to be ogling girls or whatever at 50-60 it will just some bright spark in the group thinks it's a funny/ laddish to eat at a venue like that.

You are so beyond niave and deluded this was painful the read.

Bookworm20 · 23/11/2022 09:45

OP, if he goes, tell him you want him to bring you back a portion of those chicken wings so you can see what all the fuss is about. As its all about the chicken wings apparently. Who knew men were so into chicken wings!

Also get your DD to ask him to let her know what its like, as shes thinking of applying for a job there.

MorningMeditation · 23/11/2022 09:48

cleanfreak12345 · 22/11/2022 08:24

Thread yesterday that mentioned a stripper as part of a hen do, nobody had a problem with that though

It wasn’t the point of that thread though if it was the one about the unfair bedroom situation.

Although I did comment about strippers being 🤮 on that thread. So yeah, I had a problem with it.

ArnoldBee · 23/11/2022 10:16

The fried pickles and unlimited wings are gorgeous.

The women wear skin coloured full body suits so it really is all about the food.

😂😂😂

Nothing says “all about the food” like “skin-coloured full body suits”, Buffalo Bill.

TofuonToast · 23/11/2022 10:27

PhilInt · 23/11/2022 05:25

This is so grim, made worse by the expectation that we (women) have to be okay with it or else we are killjoys. Long live the patriarchy, normalising the objectification of barely adult women.

Children too. 16 and 17 y/o can work there. Exploitation of children’s bodies.

TofuonToast · 23/11/2022 10:32

SunflowerTed · 23/11/2022 07:58

No. It’s not. It’s about her husband thinking it’s A okay to exploit children and young women.

OP I’d leave my husband if he did this, then he can have all the fun with the lads he wants.
