DH going to Hooters

RulaCabula · 22/11/2022 07:32

Am I wrong to feel annoyed? Him and his pals are all late 50s - early 60s and the thought of Dh ogling the girls makes me feel sick.
DH says I'm being irrational as women go there and its just fun.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Just the thought of my DH doing this gives me the ick.

IsThePopeCatholic · 22/11/2022 17:33

Sad and sleazy. I wouldn’t want him near me after that.

I agree
If your husband thinks this is ok then I think you have more issues than just this night out to be honest

Stressfordays · 22/11/2022 08:06

They do really nice chicken wings, we used to go on work nights out and I'm female. Its just a restaurant at the end of the day, not a strip club.

I agree. You sound like such a prude

EarthSight · 22/11/2022 19:10

It depends on the boundaries of your relationship but the whole point of Hooters is for men to ogle at women.

God there's always one. Please spare us @cleanfreak12345 . We have enoug men here already piping up in certain threads going 'BUT WOMENZ DU IT TOO, SO UNFAIR', or variations of this.

This situation is NOT like women going to hen dos with a stripper (personally not my thing). The power dynamic of older men (or just men) going somewhere for sexual titillation, where they feast their eyes over the breasts of the young waitresses, is very different.

That really is a stupid argument...

All the places you could go to eat you randomly pick ''Hooters''?

Bullshit.

Pointing out that a bunch of married middle-aged men choosing to objectify women young enough to be their daughters is sleazy as hell does not equal to being a ''prude'', it is simply pointing the blindingly obvious.

BedTaker · 22/11/2022 19:23

No one 'buys' women at Hooters. Its a restaurant. When is the buying of women taking place?

When DS was about 1 we were abroad in Europe in a smallish town, DS was hungry and a bit fussy at the time and we came across a Hooters - we knew what we would be getting so....we took him in, and had burger and chips style fayre. I can assure you, no women were purchased.

I'm guessing that the OPs DH didn't go in for those reasons, and probably did want to perve on the women, but it's absolutely not a strip club.

KettrickenSmiled · 22/11/2022 21:38

"but ... but ... really nice chicken wings ..."

Fuck my old boots.

Roundbasket · 23/11/2022 03:27

Funny isn’t it how most of the men going to hooters would lose the plot if their wives or gfs actually started working there ….
im sure we’d hear lots of ‘ but but but….that’s …..different ‘

Roundbasket · 23/11/2022 03:30

drpet49 · 22/11/2022 17:39

What an unintelligent ‘argument ‘
I knew a chauvinistic , sexist old pervert neighbour who made good chicken wings too …. Didn’t make other things about him ok

JessesMum777888 · 23/11/2022 03:36

Did he enjoy the wings ?

Sad old pervs.

This.

Pathetic really.

SunflowerTed · 23/11/2022 03:45

Can’t see the problem if he wants a fun night out with the lads.

Richielogic · 23/11/2022 04:13

Oh for gawds sake, the guy is probably more interested in the chicken wings.

There are probably better sports bars to go to granted but as far as i understand it, Hooters is an American sports bar come diner. Kind of a Fridays but waitresses wearing t-shirts with owls on? They are not topless or anything.

It wouldn't be my personal choice of restaurant; they are unlikely to be ogling girls or whatever at 50-60 it will just some bright spark in the group thinks it's a funny/ laddish to eat at a venue like that.

Spookypig · 23/11/2022 04:21

I couldn’t get that worked up over it.

So by your logic:

• Men stop ogling at 50-60. Is this a bifocals issue or something?
• It’s simultaneously laddish/funny to visit… yet also merely a sports bar! Nothing to see here!
• All about the chicken wings. If so, why not eat literally anywhere else, whose business model is built around chicken wings and not exploitation

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/11/2022 05:11

waitresses wearing t-shirts with owls on

Were you born yesterday? Or think we were. No one is this stupid.

Except for the people who think men read Playboy for the articles and go to strip clubs for the later opening times.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 23/11/2022 05:12

Do you mean hooters in the US? I’m fairly sure my husband has been when on a work trip. it’s not a strip club and honestly I don’t care. My husband has never said or done anything that has made me feel icky so why would I assume his personality would suddenly change when his waitress is wearing a tight tee. They wear more than people at our gym.

PhilInt · 23/11/2022 05:25

This is so grim, made worse by the expectation that we (women) have to be okay with it or else we are killjoys. Long live the patriarchy, normalising the objectification of barely adult women.

OutofControl3 · 23/11/2022 05:36

When I was pregnant my fiance who was 30 at the time went on a stag do, returning with a bikini for me and a babygrow for the unborn he was thinking of us😂 to be honest I find girls women in less clothes in a normal pub these days also just walkin down the street then a sports bar...

Puppers · 23/11/2022 05:53

KettrickenSmiled · 22/11/2022 09:42

Honestly it turns my stomach a bit. They are too old for this shit.

Oh! Is there a cut-off point for when objectifying women is deemed ok for young men, but the middle-aged are considered gross for the same offence?

Who said it was OK for anyone to objectify women? It's gross no matter who does it. However one would hope that by their fifties, a man would have matured and developed a world view that would preclude him from such behaviour. I did some dickish things as a youth that I wouldn't dream of now, because I've grown up and I have a greater understanding of the impact of my actions on other people and groups.

The fact that he's in his fifties and these girls/women could be as young as 16 means that there's an intrinsic power imbalance there, in addition to the issue of objectifying women in general. It's really not difficult to understand why it's far more problematic for a man who's nearly 60 with a 22yr old stepdaughter to be ogling a 19 year old, versus say a 20yr old man doing the same thing. That's not to say that the 20yr old isn't participating in something harmful and derogatory also.

LondonWolf · 23/11/2022 05:54

LaBellina · 22/11/2022 09:55

No you’re not unreasonable and they’ll look like a bunch of fools too, no doubt the girls will be laughing about the icky old men who came over to ogle girls young enough to be their daughter.

They won't. They'll just serve them like waitresses do and be glad of the massive tips. I used to go to hooters a lot, several friends worked there. The women wear thick as leggings American tan tights, comfy trainers, shorts over the tights and a vest top. Some of the women made so much money in tips they were able to support themselves through uni and/or save massive deposits for flats/houses. I can't get too worked up about it. Good wings and cocktails too.

Snnowflake · 23/11/2022 06:01

Start calling him Harvey

RulaCabula · 23/11/2022 06:15

Thanks for the replies - DH is still planning on going 🤬 with 'the boys.'
I brought it up last night with him, his excuses were:
Its just fun
Women wear less in the gym , pubs etc and its not a strip club
Women go to hooters too.

He then said I was acting like a domineering wife ( I'm not, this has just really really annoyed me.)

Can't put into words how much I feel hurt by all this.

Is it the Nottingham branch, it’s just a restaurant with a silly name. A bit demeaning but hardly divorce material.
