Snooped again and feeling worse than ever

Boatinggirl27 · 26/10/2022 09:19

I posted on here a while ago, been with partner around 9 months. Not sure how to link my previous thread?

in a nutshell, when we started dating he’d told me about an ‘old friend’ who he’d known many years ago and how she’d gone quiet on him when he’d told her he was dating me? She is very vocal on his social media pages, birthdays etc telling him
how much she loves him. A few months ago she popped up on his phone on messenger. He doesn’t know I saw it. I didn’t know they were still in touch so shocked me a little as last he’d mentioned she’d gone ‘radio silent’ and how that was ‘good enough for me’ and how she’s a bit bonkers?

I did a really stupid thing snd snooped again. YES I KNOW I SHOULDNT!!! I really do know I shouldn’t but I have trust issues and this whole scenario made me doubt him.

his marriage broke up nearly two years ago and he’s told me how since, he’s thought about me constantly. Told me how he’d wanted to ask me out a lot earlier than he did.

I looked back at the messages with this woman and late last year they were sharing VERY flirty messages. Apparently he’d stayed with her 20 odd years ago when he went around the world backpacking. She lives on another continent but they obviously know each other from when she lived in his home town all those years ago? These messages suggest they never kissed or slept together and how he’s gutted it never happened. She mentioned how he’d left her ‘high and dry’ or something like that? She suggests he moves over to where she lives he’s said don’t tempt me and only if she’s waiting naked!!! Also he calls her by her first name and his last name!

I know I shouldn’t have snooped but I don’t know how to move on???

Listen, the man was probably a bit lost after splitting from his wife of 23 years and wanting some comfort and confirmation of his attractiveness or something.

He is by your accounts a good boyfriend and he has told her about you and said that hope that she also finds love (like he has with you).

There is no problem here. Enjoy your relationship and don’t overthink this. And don’t snoop!

BananaCocktails · 28/10/2022 01:34

He probably was thinking of you whilst he was single and he can constantly think of you and still flirt with someone else, He is a human being with feelings. he hasn’t gone over there to see her and he has told her about you and the messages are no longer flirtatious , The fact that he has told her about you speaks volumes, he didn’t have to tell her he could’ve lied and said that he was still single but no he has told her about you. And he’s now been just friendly that’s it. when men are single sometimes they flirt esp when they feel horny ! He wasn’t with you at the time these messages are none of your business

when I was single I sent loads of flirty messages backwards and forwards with some of my male friends a lot of it was just banter and some of it was sexual banter but there was really no intention of meeting up when I got with someone it all stopped just draw a line underneath it. How would he feel if he found out you went through his phone? Did he give you his pin lock? How did you go his phone most people have pins on them that is really sneaky OP. Fact is he is with you he has obviously sung your praises just leave it at that I’m not sure why people on here are telling you to leave him why? Clearly you have insecurities which are outside of this relationship
Just because he said he couldn’t wait to get with you et cetera doesn’t mean that he wasn’t allowed to flirt with anyone else he never said that

CookPassBabtridge · 28/10/2022 02:02

Well of course he's not going to tell you he's still in touch, you are insecure and wouldn't react well even it it's platonic.

This..

Is it her specifically you feel insecure about OP? Is she really attractive?

kateandme · 28/10/2022 02:06

Op you’ve started these same threads for the past 3 months.
exactly the same.
where YOU have snooped.tbh im feeling really sorry for this bloke.you should not be continuing to do this to him. And it’s HIM that shouldn’t trust you.because it is you that’s breaking the trust
let him go.you aren’t happy. He wouldn’t be either if he new this was going on.

Starlia · 28/10/2022 03:19

OP does he know you've looked through his phone? If not, you must see that you are also lying to him.
If you truly believe he must come clean with you, you must also come clean with him.
Either way it's not fantastic that you are both perhaps lying by omission to each other.

If you don't get therapy you will ruin thisand any other relationship. Your jealousy and obsession sounds psychiatric. Please get help.

Mate, you're nine months in and you've started a number of threads about this relationship.

You're on a day out with him and his child and you're on a thread saying he's a liar and you don't trust him.

You're snooping on him and reading his private conversations from when you weren't even together.

Can you honestly say you think this is how healthy relationships begin?

This!

Boatinggirl27 · 29/10/2022 10:14

@CookPassBabtridge he has lots of female work colleagues etc and I feel no threat whatsoever with them. And they are here in the same town! She is on another continent! I wouldn’t say she’s pretty but then it doesn’t matter what I think if he finds her attractive.

Asked this a few times OP and would be interested to know your answer.

Boatinggirl27 · 29/10/2022 10:19

@monsteramunch no it isn’t healthy I do recognise that. I just needed some perspective what other people would feel? Our relationship is great otherwise. I feel sometimes I’m blowing it out of proportion I get that, but then I still feel he’s lied to me by not telling me about her.

Daisydoo99 · 29/10/2022 10:50

OK I’ll give my opinion on this. I’ve read all of this thread and remember your old ones slightly. I’m trying my best to put myself in your shoes.

Firstly- the phone thing. That’s not OK and you know it isn’t. The thing is, if there’s a niggle or a worry, you need to talk to your partner, be honest, be open and ask and listen to their version of events. Snooping is not only wrong but also in this case where there’s not actual evidence of cheating/ flirting, you start to paint your own picture. He’s sat in the dark, thinking things are OK whilst you’re snooping around, jumping to assumptions etc. I’ve had my jealous moments with my fiancé, I think we can all get worried or insecure at times- things have worried me but I’ll sit down and talk to him. I’ll ask him if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick etc. yes I’m not perfect, I’ve got upset etc but I would never snoop because frankly, that’s lying and I’d hate to invade on his privacy. You have to stop doing it and tell him you did it too. It’s important to me with my partner that if I’ve bothered by something, he gets to explain so we can work through the issue and carry on with our lives- in a transparent and honest way. I like to think If I’ve pissed him off and he feels we can chat about it, not start going through my phone.

The woman- I’m seeing this may be many don’t agree with but I actually do understand why a woman who is regularly messaging your partner who he, before you, had a sexual based, flirty friendship with, is making you feel rubbish. I’m trying to put myself in your position and I think yes, if it was a normal friend ( let’s be clear, I think we all know we don’t tell our normal friends that we wish we’d slept with them, want to tear their clothes off etc)- then no I wouldn’t care. One of my partners closest friends is a girl and she’s lovely- we recently went to visit her and her new baby. But that’s it, it’s simply friends. They were good friends throughout their uni life / 20’s and it’s just been based on normal friendship. I think if they’d had years of sexual tension and flirting then yes, I’d feel off about it. I think if I knew this woman messaging had only stopped the heavy sexual/ flirty messages because I was now in the picture, I’d worry of the intention- does she fancy him? Does she hope or think they have a deep connection and soon he will sway to her? But also, it could be fully innocent.

It also depends what he’s said. If he’s said to you, ‘ look, this friend I must admit, I’d flirt with a lot, we’ve nearly slept together, we had heavy texts but now that’s over, I don’t see her that way and we catch up’ then he’s been honest and it’s up to you whether you can be with someone who stays in touch with an old flame. You talk to him, not snoop.

If he’s told you that it’s just a standard friendship, no flirting, no sexual tension, no near miss sex yet you’ve now seen that’s a lie, then yes he’s lied and that’s bad on his part.

I do get your concerns but you need to talk to him, stop snooping and admit what you’ve done

You think he's a liar.

Lots of us disagree but at the end of the day, that's what you believe.

So do you want to be with someone you believe is a liar?

Maybe he is sparing your feelings by not telling you about the flirting?
Have you told each other about every past relationship you have had? Do you consider this to be usual in relationships?

Boatinggirl27 · 29/10/2022 14:53

@Daisydoo99 all he’s told me about her is she’s a friend on another continent who went silent on him when he told her he was dating me. He said it’s fine by me etc and she’s probably an ex friend now. He’s never told me once since that they have been in touch. It’s only because I snooped (which I know is wrong) that I found out that they do have some sort of intimate past, and they have been in touch the duration of our relationship. Albeit since April/May time more on a friendly basis, ‘hi how’s life with you’ sort of thing and him telling her all about his divorce process. She messaged him about a week ago telling him how she was thinking of him and she wanted to let him know. Then asked what was happening in his world! He hasn’t replied. He keeps telling me how we are going to have a future, how he’s with me for life, making plans etc…… maybe he is cutting contact with her? All I can do if I don’t bring it up is see if he does contact/reply to her?

All I can do if I don’t bring it up is see if he does contact/reply to her?

Oh, so you mean snoop again?

Seriously OP you've been with your boyfriend a matter of months.

You've been anxious enough over the relationship to start three threads.

This isn't how a relationship is meant to be.

Thesearmsofmine · 29/10/2022 15:22

All I can do if I don’t bring it up is see if he does contact/reply to her?

Do you realise how controlling this sounds? That you are planning to sneakily check on his phone (again) to see if he contacts his friend. Disgusting behaviour tbh.

monsteramunch · 29/10/2022 15:35

And OP you say he's been a liar by omission.

But funnily enough you haven't mentioned you've snooped, have you?

Hypocritical much?

Shallysally · 29/10/2022 16:08

OP she isn’t a threat, she has dialled the nature of the conversation down to friends. That is allowed! I have a few male friends from my dating days who are really good friends! One is like a brother, we are really close but totally platonic, never any romance involved.

My partner knows about these men, and we went to one of their weddings last year.

People are allowed to have friends, they are allowed to adjust the nature of their contact in line with what is happening in each others lives when something changes.

There is nothing wrong here other than your view of the situation and your insecurity.

Are you bothered that your bf doesn’t talk about you to this woman?

Boatinggirl27 · 29/10/2022 16:10

Yes I know I’m being hypocritical. I know I shouldn’t have snooped/be snooping. I’m trying to change my mindset to see things differently. I’m trying to accept she’s a friend who he’s obviously been intimate with (whether physically or emotionally) and he’s still in touch with and I trying to see just how much he does actually care for me. We’ve just had a chat he’s just told me he sees his future with me snd how he’s happy going forward. I’m really making a promise to myself not to check his phone again. I’m going to put my trust in him that maybe he’s backing off slightly from her too.

she obviously really fancies him and I find that difficult. Telling him she misses him and how she ‘loves him long time’ ……. I just struggle to piece together the history. She’s been on a different continent for over 30 years!!! Snd as someone pointed out no of course you don’t tell each other every bit if your relationship history but in my mind if he’s still in touch with her that’s what I struggle with when he hasn’t mentioned it.

OP posts:
Shallysally · 29/10/2022 16:20

Ok, but people will fancy him, whether they live on the same street or are abroad. Can you deal with that?

You need to remember that he isn’t hiding anything. You have access to his phone, can see how the messages have changed over the last year. If you are that bothered by this then either end the relationship as you can’t move past this, or admit that you have been snooping and ask about her.

monsteramunch · 29/10/2022 16:21

So talk to him then OP.

If you can't have an adult conversation with the man then you shouldn't be with him anyway.

If you've started three threads about a relationship and snooped on private conversations your partner had, inclusion ones before they even met you, then you shouldn't be in that relationship anyway.

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/10/2022 16:24

It might be worth taking time out of the relationship while you seek support.

Are you younger than him?

Boatinggirl27 · 29/10/2022 16:36

I’m 2 years older than him.

OP posts:
Boatinggirl27 · 29/10/2022 16:38

@Shallysally yes he is open with his phone and passcodes etc but my problem is he hasn’t been open with the fact he’s still messaging her.
