Tape on the bedroom door

225 replies

jesspaws · 20/11/2021 22:13

WTF? I've just found sellotape at the bottom of the bedroom door, I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I'm sat on the bed.

It was stuck on the door itself but long enough to reach the door frame if it was taped from the outside. Wtf?

DH and I together 18yrs no red flags, not really. He has recently started sleeping in the spare room since he caught Covid and decided to stay there. He's been enjoying late nights watching box sets while I sleep.

Why would anyone put tape over the bottom of the bedroom door?

Do you have kids? My house is covered in random bits of sellotape, get them near a roll and they sellotape everything

Bluskyenonstop · 21/11/2021 13:41

I have a sellotape on bottom doors where we got flying ants / ants each year. They little bastards get through..

claymodels · 21/11/2021 13:44

-There is duct tape AND duck tape! They are both a thing!

And Sellitaoe is called Scotch tape in the US.

Scotch is a brand of sellotape just as Duck is a brand of duct tape

HeronLanyon · 21/11/2021 14:11

I was also brought up calling all sellotapes ‘scotch tape’

rampitup · 21/11/2021 14:13

He suspects you have found out about his secret porn habit but he doesn't know for sure. All the time that you are not yet saying anything he is living in fear but wants to carry on with his porn habit. So he uses the tape as a kind of comfort blanket. All the while the tape remains intact he knows he can carry on with his habit. If the tape has moved, he knows he will have to stop, or be more careful.

Yummypumpkin · 21/11/2021 14:18

Questions in order of urgency:

Was there sellotape on any other door?

Grade the residual stickiness rating 1-10 to allow us to estimate duration of sellotape presence

Current location of sellotape dispenser in your home (utility room indicating this was house maintenance related; husband's bedroom indicating no such thing / possible relation to boxsets)

How many spare rolls of sellotape are there...the higher the number, the greater the chance this was simply the first in a series of operations

Dust the sellotape with baking powder; finger print your husband using ink; compare the prints (perhaps read a book or take a short course on this...it's specialised)

Surveying your housecquickly yet thoroughly, what other items are not where you would expect them to be (eg teaspoons, spare house keys, passports....all could be v significant)

GertietheGherkin · 21/11/2021 14:40

Sounds like a decent quality sellotape 😁

Any chance of a diagram?
Approximate length?

What's the box set? 🤔

TractorAndHeadphones · 21/11/2021 14:53

This thread has really cheered me up today 🤣. Sadly, I think we may never know the answer.

Sonaftersonafterson · 21/11/2021 15:28

I wouldn't have that.

Monalotmoore · 21/11/2021 15:53

@pastabest

1. He's been trying to measure his height and stuck the tape measure to the bottom of the door to help
  1. He is 8
  1. He thought it might stop a draught
  1. He likes the way it looks
  1. He was wrapping presents there and was using the door to hold his sellotape bits
  1. You did it and forgot
  1. Something about microchips
  1. He's fucking with you
  1. He thinks you are fucking someone
  1. He thinks you spend too much time on mumsnet and is waiting to see how long it takes you to post about the random sellotape on the door.
  • He didn't even put it there in the first place....

    Are we still baffled ???
    Maybe OP is sellotaped into her room and can’t get out to update us ?? 🧐

    Oftenithinkaboutit · 22/11/2021 09:30

    How come name changed to start this thread op?!
    Can’t think how anyone would be worried about being identified on the basis of this thread… unless you’re asking friends and families Grin

    Cherrytart23 · 22/11/2021 14:08

    @Fifteentoes

    Your DH is clearly trying to sellotape you in to the bedroom so you remain his prisoner forever. How on Earth did you manage to escape?
    This.
    Liz1tummypain · 22/11/2021 15:01

    Ask the kids. It's most likely something they did

    Babyghirl · 22/11/2021 15:06

    Dh has sellotaped you to the door cause he has found this thread and he's ascared of you finding out the truth of why it's on the door in the first place 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.

    sillysmiles · 22/11/2021 15:42

    @jesspaws

    Why would anyone set a trap to check if I'd been in to the bedroom? I've been in and out about 10 times today, so it can't be a new thing. I will ask him, but just wanted other opinions first.
    As a kid I could have done things like this - to go along with whatever game was in my head.
    reddevilunited · 22/11/2021 15:45

    @Limer

    I've got an ear worm now.

    Footsteps on the dance floor, remind me baby of you
    Teardrops in my eyes, next time I'll be true, yeah
    Ta-a-a-pe on the bedroom door...

    I'm sat in the GP waiting room and I just snorted 😂😂
    BigFatLiar · 22/11/2021 15:52

    We used to have sticky tape turn up everywhere especially around Christmas. OH would cut off a number of strips and stick the end to various bits of furniture ready for use when he wrapped presents. Said it was easier. Bits used to stick down or come off and we'd stand on them. We could find sticky tape all over the place for ages afterwards.

    He still does it.

    Willowowisp · 22/11/2021 16:16

    The sellotape trick was used to Try and track a ghost in Uncanny. I thought of this thread. Is the op haunted?

    Catsforeverpeoplenever · 22/11/2021 16:25

    Perhaps he is watching something you may not approve of and the tape is a booby trap/early warning system?

    percythewitch · 22/11/2021 16:40

    @Catsforeverpeoplenever

    Perhaps he is watching something you may not approve of and the tape is a booby trap/early warning system?
    How would a piece of tape that isn't even long enough to reach the actual door frame (see the OP) provide any sort of warning system?

    Even if it did reach the actual door frame, what sort of tape do you use that would make a sound loud enough to be heard over a film/box set?

    There's just a random bit of tape stuck to the bottom of the door.
    Shit happens.

    Damnloginpopup · 23/11/2021 07:20

    Are you ok op?
