Tape on the bedroom door

jesspaws · 20/11/2021 22:13

WTF? I've just found sellotape at the bottom of the bedroom door, I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I'm sat on the bed.

It was stuck on the door itself but long enough to reach the door frame if it was taped from the outside. Wtf?

DH and I together 18yrs no red flags, not really. He has recently started sleeping in the spare room since he caught Covid and decided to stay there. He's been enjoying late nights watching box sets while I sleep.

Why would anyone put tape over the bottom of the bedroom door?

I recently bought some duck tape. Yea I know it's DUCT tape, but this was definitely DUCK tape. It had a duck on and everything. Not for taping ducks though. It's that awesome silicone stuff for fixing leaky joints in water pipes and general plumbing jobs 👍🏻

borntobequiet · 21/11/2021 10:55

I think Duck Tape was named as a joke because of the mispronunciation of duct.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/11/2021 11:05

@Yummypumpkin

I googled it! There is duct tape AND duck tape! They are both a thing!

And Sellitaoe is called Scotch tape in the US.

But I can't find out who did this or why anywhere.

I have an assignment due in tomorrow but just keep hitting refresh on this thread.

I don't know why this impacted me like this.

I will ask my therapist.

P.s. anyone else wondering if extraordinary flatulence could explain this??

IAmMeThisIsI · 21/11/2021 11:05

I think the only explanations could be that he's checking if someone's gone into your bedroom at night or it's accidentally been transferred from elsewhere. I remember once I was wrapping presents etc and the tape ended up everywhere. Anyway, place marking as I want to see husband's response.

Justajot · 21/11/2021 11:06

Do you have kids living with you? My DD1 was really well behaved when she was little, so we didn't need to have house rules except "no sellotape on doors". I don't remember quite what she was doing with it, but we ended up with a big reminder stuck to the fridge.

bonfireheart · 21/11/2021 11:07

But why does he need to know if someone has gone into the room at night, when he's in the house too?

@Vapeyvapevape

The op was sat on her bed And decided to start a thread Some tape she had spied What is that she cried Ask your husband all Mumsnetters said.
Brava!
Santaischeckinglists · 21/11/2021 11:17

I reckon he thinks you have had a man in to attend to your needs. He is in the spare room and is assuming you are missing having such a stud muffin around so have found a replacement
.

Yummypumpkin · 21/11/2021 11:21

Is he quite lazy?

I'm thinking that sellotape on the bottom of a doorframe would save on hoovering the area of floor covered by the parobala created by the door opening?

Dancingonmoonlight · 21/11/2021 11:21

@TempName01

It’s the sort of thing I would do if I had a tradesperson in the house to see if they had been snooping. I think a lot of people on MN should try it when their MILs are round 😄
People never fail to astound me.
Vapeyvapevape · 21/11/2021 11:23

Op come baaaaack !

Yummypumpkin · 21/11/2021 11:24

Pets! Do you have pets?

The sellotape will pick up pet hair but as the door opens inside, only from inside the room.

He will then have proof that a pet was in the bedroom.

The pet won't be able to deny it, as the method is foolproof.

HaroldSteptoesHorse · 21/11/2021 11:29

Light from under your door filtering under his door so he’s used tape to cover the light from your door…odd

Perv with a mirror so he can see you getting naked?

Doomscrolling · 21/11/2021 11:52

I'm weirding out DH and DD because I keep snorting with laughter at these suggestions. Come back, OP, and tell us what he said

Yummypumpkin · 21/11/2021 12:01

Have you recently (I know its a long marriage) expressed that perhaps the spark is waning and you find him predictable???

Because you did not expect him to do this.

And now you haven't been back, I think you have been having 14 hour explosive sex.

As he brought back that element of intrigue and masculine mystery that we women love.

MountainAshley · 21/11/2021 12:22

What a very strange thread.

ikeepseeingit · 21/11/2021 12:32

This time of year I would just assume he was wrapping presents and using the door to put his tape onto. 🤷‍♀️

Ta-a-a-pe on the bedroom door...

EvilPea · 21/11/2021 12:50

Hes paranoid you've found him having a cheeky wank from his "box sets" and wants to check if you did get up in the night.

This whole thread is amazing but this post was such a rollercoaster 😂

How would proving if she gets up in a specific night prove if she'd been up in the past?

Unless you mean he tapes the door, has is porn fix, then checks if he was caught? If he was that worried about caught he'd be being more careful than going ahead then checking if he got away with it or not

WildfirePonie · 21/11/2021 13:06

Reminds me of an episode on Elementary.. the killer taped the bottom of the door so he could fill the room with helium and kill his victim.

honeylulu · 21/11/2021 13:07

This thread has been so funny.

I think, sadly, the most likely explanation is that it got there accidentally. But second mostly likely is the "warning system" for you coming out of your bedroom in the night while he's enjoying his porn "box sets".

It makes no sense that he would check if your bedroom door had been opened per se. As you note, it is common for someone to go in and out of their bedroom several times a day. Even at night you might get up for the toilet/ glass of water etc.

On the other hand, is he a conspiracy theorist? Maybe he thinks little green men are beaming themselves down to molest you in your sleep now he's no longer there to defend your honour. Though the flaw in that would be why can't the little green men beam themselves directly into the bedroom? Hmmm. Anyway, have you noticed any tin foil going missing lately?
