Tape on the bedroom door

jesspaws · 20/11/2021 22:13

WTF? I've just found sellotape at the bottom of the bedroom door, I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I'm sat on the bed.

It was stuck on the door itself but long enough to reach the door frame if it was taped from the outside. Wtf?

DH and I together 18yrs no red flags, not really. He has recently started sleeping in the spare room since he caught Covid and decided to stay there. He's been enjoying late nights watching box sets while I sleep.

Why would anyone put tape over the bottom of the bedroom door?

It’s the sort of thing I would do if I had a tradesperson in the house to see if they had been snooping. I think a lot of people on MN should try it when their MILs are round 😄

Tilltheend99 · 21/11/2021 09:46

@5zeds

I suggest starting with writing on the mirror that can only be seen when it steams up. What about a cryptic “SELLOTAPE?” Grin
Or writing on the back of the door in lipstick EPATOLLES So that it can only be read in a mirror because “All work and no play makes DH go something something” Grin
OrlandointheWilderness · 21/11/2021 09:46

I feel invested now. Did you ask him OP?!

Alcemeg · 21/11/2021 09:47

At least it wasn't a guillotine!!!

Bluntness100 · 21/11/2021 09:50

What an odd thread. No red flags in your marriage but you feel the need to ask on here because you suspect something,,what? That your husband is trying to sellotape you into the room? Check on if you come out to use the loo at night? How big is your house?

And then for someone to come on to say the rspca do it,, 😂

SickAndTiredAgain · 21/11/2021 09:59

@Namenic

Is the tape to make a noise if you open the door? I was thinking on the same lines as *@Whataday21*
What tape would make more noise than just a door opening?
Tiredalwaystired · 21/11/2021 10:01

I’m so relieved by the warning that Mumsnet has not checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. Who know what damage listening to this advice could cause…

Placemarking for the update

Hope op updates

Vapeyvapevape · 21/11/2021 10:08

The op was sat on her bed
And decided to start a thread
Some tape she had spied
What is that she cried
Ask your husband all Mumsnetters said.

KurtWilde · 21/11/2021 10:10

Sounds like the kind of thing DS would've done aged 8 when he thought he was a super spy and was trying to set little traps (for Top Secret reasons 😂) only he used dental floss not cellotape.

2catsandhappy · 21/11/2021 10:11

I have done this to find out if someone was coming into my house while I was at work.
Turns out it was my now ex. He had a key made I did not know about.
Any other odd things you can think of @jesspaws ? Missing items, moved items, ruffled or messy things you were sure you left tidy? Phone not exactly where you left it?

tearinghairout · 21/11/2021 10:15

How old are your dch? Maybe a dch did it?

bonfireheart · 21/11/2021 10:18

Don't think OP is coming, but if she does they'll drip feed how DP has a sellotape fetish and her own parents were lost in a sellotape accident so he is being insensitive, it'll come out.

sandy354 · 21/11/2021 10:18

@2catsandhappy that makes sense if you're not expecting someone to be opening a particular door and want to check.

Not sure how that would apply to OPs position tho?

Only possible scenario is that he does it after she's in her room at night as he wants to know if she's come back out. This would be absolute batshit behaviour and would only be something I'd think of if there was a massive back story

PPs suggested he could be watching porn and wants to avoid getting caught. Still don't see how this would help as the door opening would be noisier than the tape. So all it would achieve is to let him know that she has already been out her room and may know. A bit late if that's what he's trying to avoid......

Yummypumpkin · 21/11/2021 10:19

Ruffled things????

rainbowstardrops · 21/11/2021 10:22

Did you ask him???

Helenluvsrob · 21/11/2021 10:29

Place marking 😂
This will make the daily fail won’t it

JazzyBBG · 21/11/2021 10:31

Maybe he didn't have duck tape and something to do with decorating? My DH is always marking things up he wants to paint - at some point in the next 10 years.

Yummypumpkin · 21/11/2021 10:34

Duck tape?????

sandy354 · 21/11/2021 10:34

@Helenluvsrob

Place marking 😂 This will make the daily fail won’t it
Exactly what I've been thinking 😂
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/11/2021 10:44

@Yummypumpkin

Duck tape?????
@Yummypumpkin

🦆🦆🦆

it's duct tape

Guavaf1sh · 21/11/2021 10:46

There is a brand of duct tape actually called duck tape

Flyinggeese1234 · 21/11/2021 10:48

Zing it can be either, strangely.

Yummypumpkin · 21/11/2021 10:49

I googled it! There is duct tape AND duck tape! They are both a thing!

And Sellitaoe is called Scotch tape in the US.

But I can't find out who did this or why anywhere.

I have an assignment due in tomorrow but just keep hitting refresh on this thread.

I don't know why this impacted me like this.

I will ask my therapist.

P.s. anyone else wondering if extraordinary flatulence could explain this??
