Tape on the bedroom door

WTF? I've just found sellotape at the bottom of the bedroom door, I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I'm sat on the bed.

It was stuck on the door itself but long enough to reach the door frame if it was taped from the outside. Wtf?

DH and I together 18yrs no red flags, not really. He has recently started sleeping in the spare room since he caught Covid and decided to stay there. He's been enjoying late nights watching box sets while I sleep.

Why would anyone put tape over the bottom of the bedroom door?

@MrsSkimpole

Has he got threadworms? Sellotape is a way to catch them at night.
Do they crawl under the bedroom door? 🤣😂🤣
Dancingonmoonlight · 20/11/2021 23:19

The RSPCA do this when they have a report of an animal being left on their own e.g. if the owners are away. They stick something on the door so they know if the door has been used when they return at a later date.

Jenasaurus · 20/11/2021 23:21

My thoughts are:-

= Bug trap . possibly bed bugs or maybe just to catch a spider on the sticky side

  • To stop the covid germs getting into your room and infecting you
Jenasaurus · 20/11/2021 23:22

could also be someone sitting outside the bedroom door sat on the landing wrapping presents, and stuck spare sellotape on the door or it coud be a form of draft excluder

MrsSkimpole · 20/11/2021 23:23

@CoachBeard 😂😂

I was thinking he might have stuck it to the carpet as an aide memoire to tell her about his "little problem".

Linzi2377 · 20/11/2021 23:23

My first thought was wrapping presents ..maybe on the floor beside door..I use nearest furniture to stick bits on while I wrap 🤷🏻‍♀️X

Yummypumpkin · 20/11/2021 23:26

Perhaps he has started smoking and is trying to prevent the smell entering your bedroom?

Zilla1 · 20/11/2021 23:26

Conjuring ritual for helping sellotape entities enter from the sellotape world. The entities are very different if conjured in UK or in Australia.

Yummypumpkin · 20/11/2021 23:27

In His Dark Materials the presence of dust is a critical theme.

Might he have recently have read the trilogy and be trying to measure dust presence by catching it on the sellotape. Has he got a microscope?

tattygrl · 20/11/2021 23:28

I am very intrigued. Let us know what your husband says!

Hohofortherobbers · 20/11/2021 23:29

Ha! Love it! Grin

Schmoozer · 20/11/2021 23:30

Used sellotape to detect his worms
Strong urge to scratch
Rubbed backside on the doorframe line Balou
Sellotape landed on the door
He felt relief and mooched on
To watch another box set / scratch in peace ??

MolkosTeenageAngst · 20/11/2021 23:32

Sellotape is very sticky so it could easily have transferred from something else and ended up stuck to the bottom of the door.

GuiltyAsChargedYrHonour · 20/11/2021 23:32

I expect it just got caught on someone's shoe. More importantly, if your DH is now better from Covid, when will he be returning to your bedroom?

Prettybubblesintheair · 20/11/2021 23:32

I can’t believe you’d post on mumsnet about this if you’re in a good, 18 year long, red flag free relationship. Sporadic posting, no answers to the many sensible questions you’ve had. I think you’re perhaps a bit bored and wanting some attention because your husband would rather watch a box set then go to bed with you…

Mauraandlaura · 20/11/2021 23:34

He is wanking down stairs when he is watching his 'box sets'

He puts the tape across the door to see if you are sneaking out and listening to him silently judging him before creeping back in to your room.

Or

He thinks you are over weight and wants to see if you are sneaking down stairs to have midnight binges.

Or

He is being visited by a succubus but is unsure if its actually you so wants to see if you are actually leaving your room at night or it is indeed a succubus ...

@MrsFin

One of the kids trying out a trap they intend setting for Father Christmas ?
Yep. Any dc in the house under the age of 10?
Yummypumpkin · 20/11/2021 23:36

Sellotape is, fortunately, very sticky.
Yummypumpkin · 20/11/2021 23:38

I think he's being metaphorical.

Sellotype is used primarily...one might say exclusively...for joining, fixing, attaching, holding or mending.

Is it your wedding anniversary?

RobertsRadio · 20/11/2021 23:39

Have you received any letters written in invisible ink lately?

Allusernamesalreadyused · 20/11/2021 23:39

Ah stop. Ye are being very hard on the OP.
It's a strange one but there may be a perfectly plausible explanation ie kids messing etc
Hope you get to bottom of it

MrsSkimpole · 20/11/2021 23:40

The OW left it there deliberately as she had lost her knickers so couldn't leave them in the washing basket.

FaceFullOfCake · 20/11/2021 23:43

@RobertsRadio

Have you received any letters written in invisible ink lately?
Or written in lemon juice? If you iron them you can read what's been invisible inked.
sandy354 · 20/11/2021 23:46

I have got no idea why it might be there but it's hard to believe there is no back story (especially given the separate rooms).

If this happened in my house I'd think "weird,
Wonder how that ended up there", peel it off, bin it and not give it a 2nd thought.

I certainly wouldn't be posting on MN saying "WTF" as I'd have no reason to doubt it was innocent and/or a weird coincidence

What is about your relationship that leads you to jump to the conclusions that:

  1. It was definitely your DH
  2. It was deliberate
  3. There is something untoward behind it
Dearblossom · 20/11/2021 23:47

I just want to know outcome!
