DH not happy that I change clothes in the evening

Not brave enough to put this in AIBU.

I'm sick of DH telling me off for changing into "lounge wear" typically a hoodie and trackie bottoms in the evening. He says I look nice during the day when I am at work ( casual dress code) but in the evening as the kids are going to bed 8-9pm I change out of day clothes. Isn't this normal? He wants me to stay "dressed" till I go to bed (which is what he does). I want to tell him to f off.
He's just stormed out of the house because I'd dare to put a pair of joggers and a hoodie on. I've had enough of his 1950s attitude. It really upsets me.

That is such a weird thing to say. Who is he to tell you what to wear at home.

I recommend an Oodie for you OP. It’s a giant, huge fluffy hoodie. It’s like a dress it’s such a huge hoodie. You can get ones with animals, avocados, pizza on you name it. Extremely comfortable.

He may, however, pass out if he saw you in it of an evening. Purchase with caution.

He's a dick.

Stopstaringatmehenry · 05/05/2021 21:42

I was married to a man who complained that I wore jeans and flats/trainers for the Saturday morning supermarket run yet dressed up for work in the week (suits and heels the corporate expectation back in the day). Apparently I should have dressed up at weekends too. I used to say “book a table somewhere and I might” (paid for out of family money but it’s the initiative I was looking for). Well rid.

elmfield4 · 05/05/2021 21:42

Bloody hell he'd hate me, I put my loungewear or dressing gown on as soon as I get in from work!!

wingsnthat · 05/05/2021 21:43

@MusicMenu

I have to admit, it feels like DH can't be bothered for me when he's scruffy at home but makes an effort for the time he spends with everyone else. I'm sure I'd be unreasonable to complain, but it would be nice if he didn't take me quite so much for granted.
Define scruffy though? Presumably OP has brushed her teeth/hair and showered so is clean and not a slob. She’s just tired from work and wants to get changed
Proudpeacock · 05/05/2021 21:43

Eh? I prefer to stay dressed in my day clothes until bedtime but I don't expect other people to have the same preferences as me.

DataColour · 05/05/2021 21:44

He's a teacher and is in a suit all day or cycling gear as he cycles to work. Then he changes into jeans/trousers and top till bedtime.
I wear the hoodie and jogging bottoms perhaps 2/3 times before washing, is this skanky of me? But his main objection is that I get out of my day clothes. Utterly fed up with it. Everyone I go to put my evening clothes on I have to listen to him complain. He's an idiot.

He's being a dick!!
I change into loungewear the moment I get home, before dinner etc. 8-9pm is quite good going IMO

Oly4 · 05/05/2021 21:45

Almost everyone I know puts of PJs or loungewear at home. You need to be able to relax at home.
Your DH is being a controlling arse

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/05/2021 21:46

He'd hate me, I'm generally in my nanna night and dressing gown by then. My husband couldn't care less.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/05/2021 21:46

Goodness.... lots of people are wfh in hoodies and trackies all day.

I've always quite liked the idea of luxurious lounge wear - the sort that looks elegant on tall thin models in catalogs. But in practice I CBA to even sling on a kimono.

hopeishere · 05/05/2021 21:47

That's mad. I didn't used to change for years but then did. Now I'm wfh do it doesn't matter.

What exactly is he objecting to?

sweetypop · 05/05/2021 21:47

That sounds very controlling. I get home from the school run and I get instantly into my nagging shirt and leggings... dh gets home and he's instantly getting into his joggers and comfy clothes. Either way, it's very strange he's making a problem about it

OhSayWhat · 05/05/2021 21:47

What a dick. Wear what you want.

sweetypop · 05/05/2021 21:48

By nagging I meant baggy haha

DataColour · 05/05/2021 21:48

I've stopped having a second shower in the evening now as he always complains ( I guess it's not good for the environment or my skin) that I'm being ridiculous and it's always a precursor to getting into my lounge wear.

But...he gets out of his daywear??
Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 05/05/2021 21:48

Did he watch Stacey Dooley sleeps over and decide he wants a trad wife?!
Er go fuck yourself would be my response to his sulk!

ForeveronEtsy · 05/05/2021 21:48

I’d be ordering lots of velour tracksuits in different colours.
On a serious note though, he sounds like a nob and not surprised you are sucking of him. Storming out over loungewear??? Does he know there is a pandemic on?

PullUp · 05/05/2021 21:48

Wtf?! How weird and controlling. You should be able to chill out in comfy gear in your own home. Tell him to piss off.

wildeverose · 05/05/2021 21:48

Yeah this is really fucking weird. That's such a weird thing to get upset about, bin him off

CanIBeACurlyGirl · 05/05/2021 21:48

2o years of marriage and never have I ever been told what to wear in my own home.

It's not right

sweetypop · 05/05/2021 21:48

Say what? Why can't you have a shower in the evening?

ForeveronEtsy · 05/05/2021 21:48

Sick of him!! Sorry

Bbub · 05/05/2021 21:48

Wow he needs to fuck off. If you can't wear comfy clothes in the evening at home then where can you wear comfy clothes 😳🤔
