The Rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. Know your worth.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item

@VanGoghsDog

He’s looking for a feminine woman, apparently it’s quite common Hmm

Oh those are comedy gold!

"What does mansplaining mean?" Grin

TheCatWithTheHat · 17/03/2021 12:38

Another near miss... I was chatting to someone who had their age hidden on Tinder, so I politely asked if they didn't mind telling me how old they were.

They replied that they didn't chat to guys who asked their age, as it shows an attitude she can't deal with Hmm

UtterSocks · 17/03/2021 13:31

@VanGoghsDog love that one!!! What a charmer. Let me guess, he looks like Brad Pitt too? (I’m actually thinking not!)

VanGoghsDog · 17/03/2021 13:48

He looked like Phil Mitchell's uglier brother!

Cat - well swerved, what a weirdo!

BLTLover · 17/03/2021 14:21

I just hate it when they pretend to be nice.

SpringlikeBunk · 17/03/2021 14:25

Not fussy, someone who knows what they want. And is intelligent Bear

"Looking to meet someone similar or totally different". Certainly not narrowing his options there.

"Ur booty". I'd have written him off just on the text speak in the first word, I wouldn't have even got to the content of the second.

Is this really what the competition is like?

SpringlikeBunk · 17/03/2021 14:58

Lol @DdraigGoch
there’s more (worse !) as well Shock

to be fair there are some decent intelligent types as well - I don’t like staying on the apps for ages as it gets emotionally overwhelming, but there’s normally a reasonable number of nice intelligent men in my demographic

I had a REALLY bad period of dating when I was a bit scared of using the apps and thought all the nice men in my age range had disappeared!

But with tinder and bumble I can meet an ok guy every few months to keep things interesting - I don’t think I’m naturally a “love of my life” type and have priorities other than dating

but by “ok” I mean if things progressed to serious permanent level I wouldn’t be unhappy.

Mayzee · 17/03/2021 15:16

How could anyone resist ‘wining, dining and 69ing’?
I love the horrible sexist ones because they show you up front who they are and save you wasting your time.

Dancerinthemoonlight · 17/03/2021 15:41

@SpringlikeBunk your screen shots are getting me through the day.
Had my covid vaccine yesterday and not feeling too hot today. Only managing work in 30 minute sessions.

Hope everyone else who has had the jab recently is doing well.

UtterSocks · 17/03/2021 16:15

Sometimes I get mud-spelt messages from people whose profiles I don’t even understand...

Dating Thread 200 - Spring is in the Air, Ghosters Beware
UtterSocks · 17/03/2021 16:16

Or mis-spelt (thank you autocorrect)

HosannainExcelSheets · 17/03/2021 16:22

@SpringlikeBunk you are brightening up my day no end too, although I'm sorry it's such thin picking for you on the apps.

I've got mine booked in a couple of days, did you take any paracetamol etc beforehand?

VanGoghsDog · 17/03/2021 16:41

I've got mine Friday, I did think I might take some paracetamol twenty minutes beforehand.

I don't understand the arm tattoo comment?

Mayzee - agree re the sexist ones, red bunting a-go-go!

bangheadhere40 · 17/03/2021 16:42

He realised he got his tattoo on the wrong arm...2 years later! Sounds like a bright spark.

Dancerinthemoonlight · 17/03/2021 16:43

@frankiefirstyear I took paracetamole afterwards and have been taking it every 4 hours.
I seem to have strong side effects but for me that's not surprising

frankiefirstyear · 17/03/2021 16:50

Thanks I have a bad reaction to respiratory issues so won't be surprised if I take badly to it either unfortunately 😩
The arm tattoo though - unless it says 'this is my left arm' or similar, who cares if it's the wrong arm 🤷‍♀️

VanGoghsDog · 17/03/2021 17:07

The arm tattoo though - unless it says 'this is my left arm' or similar, who cares if it's the wrong arm

Exactly. Odd.
Mind you, I have a friend who has an R tattooed on her left buttock. But it's not wrong, it was intentional :)

DudeFromThatLondon · 17/03/2021 17:10

Unless it says left or right in the tattoo, can it have a wrong arm? Maybe an oddball attempt at humour?

SpringlikeBunk · 17/03/2021 17:22

Yeh I’m dyslexic so struggle a bit with direction, so maybe getting LEFT tattooed on left hand would be helpful if a bit excessive...🤔

SpringlikeBunk · 17/03/2021 17:31

I do get the vibe some people end up getting no contacts and write or do anything just to get attention - is it something like 20-30% of men on online dating apps get no messages or replies or something?

So they might be better off using non-dating app ways (eg friends or work or study) to meet people.

HairyArsedMan · 17/03/2021 17:53

Every pot has a lid etc.

I should crop and paste some of the ones I see. I liked the woman that said she just wanted someone tall who could drive her around. She wasn't called Miss Daisy. That would have been funny.

SpringlikeBunk · 17/03/2021 18:00

LOL I'll probably see mine up at some point from the mens side! Wink It's quite dull though, I just go for the basics really.

Someone said earlier about how often the profile seems quite disconnected to the messaging and I agree.

I mention or pick up on something they've put in the profile or expect them to write in the same tone/style, and they're completely different people!

So I could be missing out on all these erudite types who aren't like their profiles at all...
