Online dating red flags

BilboBercow · 03/08/2020 10:05

I feel like this may have been done but I feel so jaded by online dating at the moment and I'm constantly seeing red flags to the point that I'm wondering if it's just me? Would you see the below list as a no-no?
No picture of themselves (obviously)
"Not sure what I'm looking for but I'll know when I find it" - I'll string you along then say I didn't promise you anything
"Are there any normal women out there?"
"Not into vanilla" - can't ejaculate unless I'm hurting you
"I don't like women who wear lots of makeup" - I'm controlling
"Need someone to keep me on my toes" - will treat you like shit and blame you for it

Feel free to add your own. Also feel free to tell me I'm being silly. My ex was abusive so sometimes I worry now that I overanalyse everything.
I also saw a guy today saying "I value loyalty so if you've had more men than hot dinners swipe left" and my initial reaction was "fuckity bye"

closet it's genuinely grim. I have a lot of barriers up anyway due to past experiences so I've never managed to get past date 3 without bailing out

The one that always makes me cringe is 'likes nights out and nights in' so just living then? Really winds me up

Chungus · 03/08/2020 19:20

I read a profile once that said something like 'I always heard the perfect woman is a lady in the living room, a wonder in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom. Are you out there?!?!'

So repulsive. It said nothing about him at all.

So true. I take that to mean.. Boring
MrsPussinBoots · 03/08/2020 19:23

I've just seen a profile that started "daddy looking for his princess" Hmm

Chungus · 03/08/2020 19:25

I also look at profiles (of 40s to 50s age bracket) where every picture is them drinking and doing some 'zany' nonsense where they're wearing a bra or whatever, and wonder who on earth is attracted to it.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 03/08/2020 19:27

"Has own hair and teeth" always made me CRINGE!!!!!!!!

Also, no info whatsover just photos is laziness and thinks they are gods gift. Id swipe the other way no matter what they looked like on those ones.

Mirror selfies, group photos, pics with kids, clearly years old pics. Its not that bloody hard to take a couple of headshots

suziesue45 · 03/08/2020 19:27

Just seen another one, guys looking for women over 45's and his profile says wants kids someday. You'll be lucky mate.

Minikievs · 03/08/2020 19:29

My bugbear is "looking for my partner in crime" Hmm Oh bore off

My favourite one I saw the other day is "what am I into : Holidays and pork chops" That was it! Made me laugh out loud

Chungus · 03/08/2020 19:30

Another thing a lot of men in my age bracket do, is take a profile picture with the phone down by their chest. They aren't smiling and have a huge, forced by the angle, double chin. Why? Because they have zero self awareness.

Also, nothing says 'I just want sex and nothing else' like a picture of them lying in bed.

Minikievs · 03/08/2020 19:30

Yes! This!!! And "have house and car and job" Well yes, most of us do Confused

peppermintteadrinker · 03/08/2020 19:31

This pretty much rules out every man on online dating apps! Grin

Doingitaloneandproud · 03/08/2020 19:32

Children in the profile and also ones where that start with I own my own place and own my own company... okay great so you've got money..Hmm

BlackberrySky · 03/08/2020 19:33

Anyone over 40 who is looking for someone "without baggage". How on earth do they expect people to have reached that age with no emotional journeys?!

Chungus · 03/08/2020 19:34

This isn't really a red flag as such, but I wonder why on earth they do it so much - pictures where their ex wife or girlfriend was clearly standing next to them but have been poorly cropped out.

Spinachfinger · 03/08/2020 19:36

I disagree... I think it said more than enough Grin
Chungus · 03/08/2020 19:40

Yes, true!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 03/08/2020 20:11

@minikievs

Ahahahah yes that old chestnut the house car and job line! Good for you mate, good for you. It insinuates that we will fall at their feet! Nevermind actually getting to know someone, lets just be grateful they passed their test! It's pretty insulting to the people out there who are renting, or may have reasons for not driving too.

UnaCorda · 03/08/2020 20:14

"My ex was a psycho" = I was a gaslighting/abusive/mendacious arsehole.

Heatherjayne1972 · 03/08/2020 20:15

The ones who still live at home
No photo or a photo of him and his mum
Over specific profiles I recently read a profile of a man who wanted 35 year old virgin open to marriage and having as many kids as God wanted them to have!

UnaCorda · 03/08/2020 20:17

@BilboBercow

Oh and anyone claiming to be "non-manogamous" or "poly". I mean live your life but it's not for me.
This just means they want to shag around, surely?

Also what does "genuine" mean? Genuinely what?

UnaCorda · 03/08/2020 20:20

Another one: profiles where every photograph is a selfie (especially if they're all taken in the bathroom). Do you not have a single friend who can take your picture? Do you never do anything in a group?

Buggedandconfused · 03/08/2020 20:21

I just saw this delight. 🤢

He sounds just the man for me @Bugged

So we learn bugger all about Gary, other than that he likes travel. Oh, and that he's an arrogant, misogynistic arsehole.
