Dumped by text

1000 replies

user1471427667 · 20/01/2020 12:30

Bf of 2 years sent me this text in the early hours of this morning.
“Hey I’ve been thinking about us and it’s just not working out so best to end it. No need to reply. All the best”
I feel absolutely blindsided. Didn’t see this coming at all. Aside from the shock of it, I feel so dismissed that he put “no need to reply” as if he I don’t have a say in it ( well I know I don’t but the urge is to try and talk about what he feels is wrong)
Should I ignore what he said and try and contact him to find out what’s wrong and try and work it through or at least end it amicably? Or just accept it somehow and not reply.
I feel as if someone has punched me in the stomach and everything I thought was real just isn’t.
Please help me retain some dignity and tell me best way to reply or not.

It's an old thread but I hope the coward who did this has been unable to form a new relationship.

NoProblem123 · 04/03/2021 07:57

This was mentioned in another thread yeasterday so it’s trending again.
I missed it the first time so thanks whoever recommended it - brilliant!

Hope you’ve had your Tesco carpark moment OP - LEGEND Grin

Emeraldeyes20 · 04/03/2021 08:26

Wow what a coward!! I definitely wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of texting back !! That’s absolutely horrible, hopefully your next boyfriend will be a real man !!

Everydaydragon · 04/03/2021 08:33

I didnt read this thread first time around but it was lovely having a read while waking up this morning. So many supportive posters and a super strong op!

pilates · 04/03/2021 08:38

Well he has shown his true colours. How old is he 15? Spineless and a weak character. Not what you want to hear but he has done you a favour and you can focus on getting someone decent. Must have been a shock for you though 😔

Mamapep · 04/03/2021 08:40

I would reply honestly;

‘That’s a very cruel and cowardly way to do it, but if this is you showing your true colours I feel like I’ve dodged a bullet and glad I didn’t waste any more of my time with you.’

Then draw a line and never contact him again.

ruledbynine · 04/03/2021 08:42

Would love an update from the OP

@user1471427667

Oh god! Just realised he took a few bits of clothing he had a my place when he saw me on Friday ( said he wanted those particular items for a camping trip he’s going on in a few weeks). Didn’t think much of it, but now realise he took toiletries of his too so he has nothing left at mine. Seems like he planned on not coming back. I’m gutted and so confused. I don’t have anything at his, aside from a toothbrush and a few bits like that that I won’t miss at all. Plus he lives about 30 miles away so may never see him again.
Could you clean the loo with his toothbrush and then return it. You never know he might use it. I did this once before i was married to someone who continually let me down at the last minute and was probably seeing someone else. I went to his house for the last time, did the toothbrush thing and then left and blocked him. Bit childish i know!
Wildswimming3 · 04/03/2021 09:17

Sorry i misread that, thought hed left his toothbrush Shock

Number3BigCupOfTea · 04/03/2021 09:26

wow, even though in the short term it seems like obeying him if you do not reply, he will be watching his phone and he will end up feeling rejected (as well) if you take him at his word and do not reply.

He put ''no need to reply'' to provoke you. He doesn't think you can control yourself well enough to resist responding.
Don't respond.

Has anybody linked to the running in the rain thread? I can't remember what that thread was actually called but that woman handled being dumped by text and told not to reply (same MO) like a star.

NotSorry · 04/03/2021 09:28

The running in the rain thread is the follow up to this thread by the same poster. This thread is more than a year old

ZOMBIE

diamondpony80 · 04/03/2021 10:28

I'd reply with what I thought of him and it wouldn't be pretty. But then I'd leave it at that, because he's a dick and doesn't deserve you to fight for him.

willloman · 04/03/2021 10:38

Reply: So sad to hear this. Guess I'll have to console myself with lottery win. LOL
and then block him. Forever.

Fundays12 · 04/03/2021 10:38

OP you deserve so much better than him, stay strong and move on with your life without him.

My ex from years ago was like this. He was game player and honestly he near destroyed my confidence, self esteem and mental health. I was in my early 20s and he made me feel just worthless. Never allow anyone too make you feel that way.

The coldness and him trying too contact you again is about his need too control you. You didn’t react like he expected and now he is trying other methods. Your friend is right his next tactic may well be try lovey dovey just block him. I had about 4 years of it. They don’t change.

I eventually married a lovely, kind man and we have 3 kids and a happy marriage. He doesn’t make me feel anything but loved. Our marriage isn’t perfect but it’s good. You deserve happiness and don’t let him take that chance away from you. It sounds like you have good friends which helps.

teraculum29 · 04/03/2021 10:48

I would have text "Good, was thinking the same way, bye!!" and then block

NotSorry · 04/03/2021 10:57

There is no point giving the OP your valuable advice. She got all the advice she needed a year ago

There, I have ended the thread (sorry OP)

JoanThursday1972 · 25/04/2023 20:04

How has this ended up so high in the charts when the last post was over two years ago?
