Why do people cheat?

I read something once that people who cheat do it because they don't like the person they've become. They've lost themselves along the way somehow. They've turned into a bad version of themselves and they cheat to try and get back to where they want to be. I'd be interested to hear from people who are currently having an affair, or who have done in the past - no judgement from me. What were the underlying reasons for it?

that's like when people say people are born evil, and ignore all circumstances of the persons life!

Because they are narcissists I think. If y you read Chump Lady who writes on this topic she comes to the same conclusion. There's no love there for anyone with a narcissist be you the wife or the affair partner. At best the wife might get a nice house to live in, a share of a comfortable joint income, kids and the illusion of a happy marriage. And the affair partner gets sweet fa.
