Hello, following a thread where I discussed how happy and excited I was to have consciously decided to be single for 2020, it seems there are loads of us out there: People who are single through choice and happy about it.

Some plan on being single forever, some for a shorter time, but none of us are dating or want to date at the moment. We are too busy focusing on the important things in life: us!

This is a thread for anyone who wants to join it, to support and encourage each other, to discuss what we have or hope to learn by being single, and to discuss random practical stuff, like which companies don't charge single supplements for holidays.

Today is my day off work. I'm taking DS to school then I'm off to my volunteering role this morning, then I plan to chill out in a coffee shop this afternoon. I am viewing a house at 4.30! Very excited but a bit apprehensive as it has been on the market for 7 months which has me wondering if there's something wrong with it. We shall see!

What do you all get up to at the weekends?

@Waxonwaxoff0 morning! Good luck with your house viewing. Today is completion date for me 🔑! I shall await the phone call to go and get the keys. Other than that, it's a normal working day for me. I don't have ds this morning, so it's up and at 'em, maybe gym at lunchtime. Collect him and over to the house after school and work! So excited!

I can stay in my existing property until Easter (family), so we'll do a gradual move. Remove people are shifting my stuff from storage on Monday. Let the nesting begin!

I am sitting at my laptop in bed, dog at my feet, huge mug of tea in hand and just breathing a sigh of relief. I spent WAY too long with a man who didn't 'allow' tea or breakfast in bed (it might 'make a mess'), didn't like long lie ins (to be fair I AM working) and used to get a bit sulky if I spent too long on my laptop (IT'S MY JOB!!!!).

Am supposed to be meeting a publishing deadline, but will noodle around on MN and Facebook for a while first. Probably.

I'm on 2 dating websites and cringe at every message. Alot of the men of my age look old and rather sad and im only in my 30s. Im going to knock it on the head and enjoy being single

To answer your question about weekends - I’m quite boring! I tend to either see family/friends, binge watch series on Netflix (I work long hours so don’t get much chance in the week) go for long walks etc.
I rent my house otherwise I’d probably get into some home renovation too!

I usually work the weekend shifts, so I'm out of the house most weekend days. It's the busiest time in the shop so I really enjoy it - and the dog doesn't know or care what day it is!

Well, I just had lunch with my potential FWB. It's a "hell yes" from me! He is lovely and very very sexy indeed. Left with a very chaste kiss but plan to get together soon. Fab!

@mildlymiffed I remember getting the keys to my place, my own place, god, that feeling was one of the best of my entire life. Huge congrats!

@Accidentalaccountant I got a dog after splitting up. The best decision ever for us, she’s just an absolute delight.
@Waxonwaxoff0 DD goes to her dad. I’ll go to park run tomorrow morning, then a long walk with the dog, home to cook and chill. Got lots of good books and peppermint tea and the mop (the dog) to snuggle up with. I’m working Sunday :), extra shift, keeps me from spending money in town 🙄.

Day off today and I’m going to clean the house. I’ve already been to the gym. And collected and installed a dishwasher.
I’m having a coffee and then getting on with it :)

oh sorry I missed the irony there lol. Does anyone else hate being involved in others family life too? I don't want in laws or siblings of my partner complicating my life

In response to the age thing, I'm 33 and childfree and made the decision to stay single at 27 - definitely went through a sort of weird grieving process but I'm so much happier on the other side.

Yay for FWB! I'm demi so really lucky that I only want sex when I know someone well (and even then, they're very rare and it takes me years to work it out) so I don't miss the sex part.

Today I have had a training session, mooched round town and bought myself chocolate and pretty stationery, and am now working catching up on this thread before heading out for dinner with a bunch of friends. Cats are behaving after puking this morning and life is good!

I also find the money thing a pest but so worth it for my independence.

And @NurseButtercup you said it perfectly as to why I'm here! Fabulous women and all sorts of us (and the occasional man!)

@SouthernFreeez I'm still in touch with my first DP's mum and dad 11 years post breakup, they are lovely humans. Otherwise I'm with you, my own family is quite complex enough!!

@mildlymiffed how did everything go today? I had my house viewing, I have a good feeling! Going back for a second viewing next week and if all goes well I will be putting in an offer!

@viix not boring at all! Some weekends (like this weekend) I have DS who is 6 years old, so we do various child friendly things. We are having a quiet weekend after his first week back at school. Park tomorrow if if stays dry and swimming lesson for him on Thursday.

On the weekends DS is with his dad I like to get out and about and see friends. I love being single but I'm an extrovert and it doesn't always go hand in hand, too much alone time has me climbing the walls! Luckily I have a few friends in the same boat.

@SirChing sounds perfect! I really enjoyed my time with my FWB. It was a great situation. He used to make me breakfast in the morning and then leave and I would get my house to myself again, bliss!

@SouthernFreeez agree about family life, I don't want to have to deal with in laws thank you very much. You can't choose your family, and I don't want to be stuck with someone else's on top of that

@Waxonwaxoff0 And @mildlymiffed yay for the house situations! So pleased for you both. It's lovely to have your very own home, even if it is a big responsibility. I got the house in my divorce and I am going to totally do it up this year and make it my own!

I agree about in-laws! What a massive pain in the arse mine were. My ex still loves my mum and her other half and they are him a fair bit, which is fine by me as they shouldn't have to lose him just because he and I split. His family are so bloody awful that he knows he will always have my family here for him. I dont miss the outlaws at all. Really not nice people.

This weekend, my DD is with her dad. I am going to tidy my house and slob about I think. It looks like it has been burgled by tornadoes at the moment! 😂

Evening everyone 😊. Completion has happened! Ds and me went round there, and met a handyman there to talk about a few jobs. It's all happening! Removal on Monday! Phew. Nerve wracking- but it's all mine (and a little bit the banks!), but yee-hah! Can't wait to put my stamp on it. @waxonwaxoff0 fingers crossed this is the pad for you!
